the expendables set photo

SpoilerTv has the first photos from the Rio de Janeiro set of Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables. On Twitter, Stallone explained that he “had to chase a seaplane along a pier and jump inside which was like running headlong into hurricane Katrina.” The actor/director met with select Brazilian press before production began, and offered this insight into what the film is about:

“It’s a 1980s movie with today’s technology,” Stallone told Collider.  “But in those days, the female leading character was a helpless girl, waiting to be rescued by the hero. Now we have a very strong female character that evolved to this form while I was writing the script. But except for this, yes, it’s a 1980s movie.”

  • Glad to see The Italian Stallion back at work. The Expendables should be a fun movie to watch with such a "kick-ass" group of guys working together to blow stuff up.
  • I would be lying if I said I wasn't excited to see some DILFS kick ass.
  • Astaroth
Why put a strong female character. Do we have to. Is it illegal not to have a girl acting like a man in an action movie, or in a movie at all.
It's all about the money. Why don't they juste put a strong teen character and a strong baby character and why not a strong granny.
This sucks, i thought they really would make an 80's type action movie.
If you want to put an strong female character she has to be ugly, like in real life, strong women like wrestling type women are ugly.
Anyways always good to see a Sly movie, he rules.
They should find a way to put Wesley Snipes in the movie, and Tony Jaa, and Van Damme definitly did the wrong choice not to be in it.

    Cheers

    Dude,

Astaroth? Yeah, he's a kick-ass character... but seriously?

There's nothing wrong with a strong female character in this movie... I think it will blend well with all the machismo going on in this action-pack. And you know what? .... actually... not even going to bother with you. Go back to the south.
(not all south people are bad - but man, really?)

Calm down Mitsubishi. Astaroth is right. Why can't we see an action movie without having feminism shoved down our throats?? And PS, Angelina Jolie's 110 pound frame isn't exactly the recipe for disaster and neither is Milla Jovavich's. I'm so sick and tired of every action movie feeling obligated to throw in 90 pound female characters that are capable of doing the work of someone the size of Stallone. It's unrealistic and pretentious. Furthermore, if they want a chick kicking ass in their movie, then hire Chyna. Otherwise, stop placating to the wet dreams of 13 year old boys and keep the tiny starlets where they belong.
  • He holds a gun like posh English people drink tea. (lower left photo)

"Jolly good, Shoot the bad guy in the face, what what."

looking forward to a good proper old school movie.

Haha, dude that shit was funny.
  • YEEEEESSSS !!!

Thank god for SLY. 80's movies rule.

I am currently writing the screenplay for OVER THE TOP II.
  • I'm still waiting for the sequel to Masters of the Universe. Here's hoping Dolph's weapon of choice in The Expendables is a giant sword.
  • Peter
    So manly and awesome.

I hope that Stallone can convince Kurt Russell and JCVD to a least make cameo appearances. This movie wouldn't be complete without those two...it's like throwing the a mega-party and not having all your best friends there to celebrate with you.
  • totally agree

I'm juiced to see Sly running away from an exploding building, village, warehouse, or semi truck

Or gunning down 60 men w/that handgun
  • only 60? Anyone want to throw out an estimate for the body count? He slaughtered 236 alone in Rambo, so I'm going to be conservative and put it at 450.
  • INS
    only 60 w/that handgun

im sure he'll pick up a semi automatic sometime during the movie and take down an entire army of men

    body count estimate 666
  • I need to change my pants, this movie is going to be so awesome. 80's action films were by far the best action. No JCVD really hurts the team... and seeing Kurt Russel in this would just be epic. Tango and Cash 2 anyone?
  • This movie is going to be so awesome... I'm gonna be in rio this week I wonder if I can try to track the filming location down
  • Sounds like this is going to be some retro fun.
  • The 80s haircut is in place I see!
  • I see Stallone applies pinky etiquette with his Beretta. However he fails to use Trigger etiquette.
