snow white bluray
Disney has been a strong supporter of the Blu-Ray format. Dare I say the only studio that puts out discs packed with exclusive Blu-ray features. Pixar’s visual commentary tracks were enough to convince me into buying a Blu-ray player. And now Disney has announced another industry Blu-ray first.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will be released on Blu-ray on October 6th, a full seven weeks before the standard definition DVD is released on November 24th. The Snow White Blu-ray release will also come bundled with a copy of the movie on DVD. The release will feature state-of-the-art picture restoration and a pristine 7.1 Digital Theater System Hi-Def Surround Sound. The Blu-ray/DVD combo pack is priced at $39.99 msrp, while the 2-disc DVD release is priced at $29.99 msrp.

  • I was 50/50 on picking up a Blu-Ray player until I was walking through Costco and saw "Kung Fu Panda" playing. Animated films look simply amazing in full HD and I can't wait for all the Disney classics to hit Blu-Ray. Where's Robin Hood!?
  • The day Robin Hood is on Blu-Ray is the day I buy a Blu-Ray player. Best and most underrated Disney movie ever.
  • Is this so this Blue Ray will actually take off. It's going to take more than that.
  • Zinc
Good for Disney, it's time we start getting passed DVD...
  • Asty
Get passed DVD? Yet blu-ray is being bundled with it on DVD. I don't care either way, but HD-DVD use to do that. To me Blu-ray bundling a DVD just looks hypocritical.

    Blu-ray: NO! Streaming HD: YES!

Blu-ray will losing to on-demand HD services. Maybe not this year, but soon.
  • Sundance Kid
i doubt it anytime in the near future. With crappy ISPs and bandwidth caps, this won't help HD streaming's cause
  • That price is pretty high for a movie that isn't that good. Are there are alot of people out there that have been dying to get Snow White on Blue-Ray? Disney always says they're going to have movie out for a limited time and then they're going back in the Disney vault forever. I just think that's weird.
  • If I bought this, I think I would give away my extra copy of the movie. Is it possible that they could lose money by giving so many copies of the movie? Well I guess not since they're charging so much for it.
  • A.J
can someone please explain why disney HAS TO include a disc for the digital copy? It's not like the disc has anything on it. You need a separate password and they download off the internet. I don't see the point
  • I agree, I'd much rather have a copy of the movie on DVD bundled with the blu-ray... and I think thats what they're now doing...
  • freemachine
I'd like to see Disney release Alice in Wonderland on Blue-Ray. I'd actually consider buying a high-def TV if they did.

for the billionth time, it's Blu-Ray, not Blue-ray.

    no "e".

and to whoever left the comment about streaming, Blu-Rays qualitiy is still pretty superior to anything they offer on tv.

that and the average joe doesn't give a shit about streaming things on tv.
  • A.J
Well in the commercials for the BluRay of Bedtime Stories they have three discs. BluRay, DVD, and Digital.
  • Hortie
For the Billionth time it's Average Jo not Average Joe.

    noe "e".
  • Going to buy this because I don't have the original on dvd or vhs (I know shocking).

I sent an email to Warner Home Video about the "2001: A Space Odyssey" Blu-Ray because, although the special features are good, the print selected for transfer was below-par. It was light leaks on the sides in some places, making space green there. And the Jupiter Mission sequence has several moments where it flickers, especially noticeable in the shot of HAL's eye. So that's my 1st poor experience with Blu-ray so far. Too bad since this is the best movie ever made, not simply the best sci-fi movie and I've seen better prints of it projected.
  • Adam
what a pathetic thing for them to do, DVD is better and sells better so they've made a mistake there because over 90% of the sales for movies is for DVD so they'll be waiting ages for the sales to be up for this movie, pathetic Disney, very pathetic!
  • Gavin H
I'd sooner eat sh*t before I buy Blu-Ray if they stop selling DVD, it would be a travesty if that happened, I would not pay a lot of money for something that I could get on DVD which is cheaper and I've been getting for years now
  • kliz
I feel they are trying to shove Blue Ray down our throats. I don't like that and will wait for the DVD to come out. Just finished tranferring all my movies to DVD from VHS. Don't want to start over again with a new system.
