hunter prey poster and photos

Back in November, we posted a couple photos from Hunter Prey, Batman: Dead End director Sandy Collora’s first original feature film. Shot with the RED camera system in Mexico over the course of 18 days on a shoestring budget, the sci-fi film tells the story of a team of special forces commandos who must recapture an escaped alien prisoner after the military transport ship carrying it crashes on a desolate and hostile planet.

SciFiScoop recently caught up with Collora, who revealed that a teaser trailer will premiere next week, and that the final print is expected by June 2009. Included in the posting was the first teaser poster and some new production photos. Readers have compared the look of the special forces commandos to the stormtroopers from Star Wars, likely die to their retro-70’s style. Collora admits that, “Like the movie itself and all the promotional artwork, the trailer has a very 70’s, old school Sci-Fi, organic, feel to it.”

  • This film looks awesome. They may look like there from Star Wars or some other SCI-FI film or TV show but that isn't a bad thing.

Yeah, Collora is 40 but remember he's been in the industry since he was 17. That's a lot of experience, especially with FX legends like Stan Winston and Rick baker, not to mention directors like Cameron who he worked with very closely on the abyss. The fact that he is that age, is why we're getting this retro cool, 70's style to what he's doing.

Seems a little ageist of you to assume that someone doing creative work is young. Sandy Collora is 40. That isn't old by any means (I'm 34) but how is it young?
  • I did not realize that Collora was that old but it doesn't really matter.

In retrospect, young wasn't the right word. By young I mean directors that haven't had a proper chance to tell a story yet. They can be of any technical age.
  • they don't look like storm troopers at all. i mean sure, they got helmets and stuff. but what the hell XD
  • Your right, they don't look like Stormtroopers. They Look like Clone Troopers.

Any way this film looks cool.
  • This is how new directors should be made, let them make shorts or other things that are awesome and let them get a feature with lots of control while they are young and creative.
  • There should never be a "standard" when ushering in creative people. If there was we would be cutting off a huge number of people from many areas. That's like saying artists who only paint with oils should only be allowed to display their works.

I'd rather have directors be made on anything good they make. Whether it's a short film, music video, or even a commercial. A director's job is to tell a narrative using anything from pure dialogue to imagery to stylized shots, or all of the above.

A lot of the great modern directors we have now came from various mediums and age ranges.

I hope its better than Wolverine.
  • Looks interesting. I'll make sure to keep an eye out for the trailer.
  • I was just thinking of this movie the other day wondering when the hell some new info would come out.

I am strangely anticipating this movie, it's weird seeing how so little has been released, can't wait for a trailer.

That poster is awesome. This just might be the film that the throngs of disappointed Star Wars fans are longing for. Anybody have a link to a trailer?
  • the article says the trailer comes out next week
  • I wonder if the best place to store a knife is on your chest, unsheathed and with the sharp end pointed at your neck...
  • It is sheathed. Look a bit closer theres a piece that covers the knife's blade.

But this looks interesting much like a cross between Rocketeer and Boba Fett
  • my bad... it's metallic-looking, i thought that was the blade.
  • I wonder if the best place to store a knife is on your chest, unsheated with the sharp end pointed at your neck...
  • Looks like Boba Fett but that is def. not a bad thing..

The RED kicks so much ass. I just got to check it out at a convention, and It shoots great footage. I think Soderbergh shot CHE on the RED. I think...
  • I agree the RED does kick so much ass! the quality is outstanding and the camera itself is gorgeous. Now if only i have 10 grand to throw down on one! the film itself sounds cool and looks like a great 70's homage film. I liked Colloras short work on batman and superman. He plays with light really well and can set up those great action poses/shots that define what the entire film is about. it'll be interesting to see what he can do with a feature length.
  • Yeah just from watching Collorass stuff on Batman and Superman, I plan on watching this movie.
  • One man, one alien, one choice? Is this an intergalactic abortion movie?
  • HAHAHA! Kudos RamJelly. Very clever indeed.
  • look out for the sand people boba fett iron man baby!
  • Looks like
    Boba Fett
