mickey rourke wwe wrestlemania 25

The Wrestler star Mickey Rourke did in fact show up at WWE WresltMania 25, and was in the audience during Chris Jericho’s handicap match against WWE Hall of Famers Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka. After defeating all three of his opponents, Jericho challenged Rourke to come into the ring. And as expected, Rourke stepped over the guard rail, climbed into the squared circle, and laid a few punches on the WWE star.

It’s unlikely that this will progress into a match that pits Jericho vs. Rourke as Mickey is set to go into production on Iron Man 2 and the production insurance won’t allow him to compete in a full wrestling match. Photos above courtesy of WWE. Thanks to /Film reader Jason G for the tip.

I admire Mickey Rourke's spontaneity, but this clearly staged event is hardly respectable and cheapens the role that propelled him back into the limelight.
  • Because The Wrestler and every other movie that Rourke has done have been "real" right? As opposed to pro wrestling which claims to be "entertainment" but is "fake". There are reasons not to like wrestling, I can name a bunch of them, but it being a staged event is not one of them. A movie is much more scripted than a wrestling match.
  • "his clearly staged event is hardly respectable and cheapens the role that propelled him back into the limelight."
Kind of an oxymoron, right? Rourke played a wrestler in his 'comeback' role, and WrestleMania is the king event of all wrestling shows. Has been for 25 years. How does appearing at it cheapen his role in a film called THE WRESTLER? Perhaps if he starred in THE BOXER, sure... but under the circumstances, this didn't hurt one bit. In fact, it was kinda neat.

the mick can do whatever the fuck he wants. and also, wrestlers truly get beat the fuck up - naturally there is choreography, but it ain't a dance i wanna do.

i was watching this yesterday. it took him like 7 min to get from ring side to in the ring, talk about milking it.

I was there live, and really wanted Jericho vs. The Ram, but seeing the punch was great. There were plenty of Ram Jam chants. I don't know who dropped the ball on that angle but it could have been better.
  • Until they delete it:[youtube jCc_S1goFU0&feature=channel_page&fmt=18 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCc_S1goFU0&fe... youtube]
  • Haha! He made Chris Jericho look like a little bitch! Hell Yeah Ram!
  • Look out Iron Man, Mickey Rourke is DANGEROUS!
  • I'm assuming it had to do with licensing rights and the movie studio.

Would they sue anyone if he pulled a ramjam though. It was clearly an insurance thing for his current production or he simply didn't want to.

I was there and everyone was expecting Stone Cold to come out and open a can of Whoop Ass on Jericho. Ricky Steamboat definetely saved the match, too bad he lost.
  • Hmm, I wonder why nobody takes Mickey Rourke seriously as an actor.
  • Oh please have Dwayne Johnson and him fight. Please.

this is going to be history right here
  • Rourke should have Ram Jam'd him!

Caught the show on the big screen at a sports bar in Cleveland after the Cinema Wasteland con. Piper did the same shtick he was doing 20 years ago and Snuka could barely walk around the ring without having to tag out. Steamboat can still bring it and saved the whole match. The Rourke thing was as much a joke as expected but the whole night was made by the highly entertaining match featuring The Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels. I haven't watched wrestling in about 20 years but even the non-fans I was with couldn't help but get into watching two pros really sell the event.
