Kevin Smith on the Bright Side of The Internet

kevin smith's askewniverse

Last month we posted a segment of Lee Stanhan’s interview with Kevin Smith, where the filmmaker talked about the dark side of the internet. But what about the other side of the internet? You know, the side where fans can form a community, everyone is happy and angry talkbackers don’t exist… Smith talks about how he found and learned to love the internet in the latest segment of Stanhan’s interview, embedded after the jump.

Man, I wish I knew what message boards to go to to discuss film with Kevin Smith. Well, who knows, maybe I've talked to him before without realizing it.

  • View askew boards dude. www.viewaskew.com/theboard it's like a 2-4 dollar donation to join though. But worth it since it's a life time thing.
  • I think it would be very cool to have a conversation with Kevin Smith. Just from reading this article and watching the video, I'm going to go watch An Evening with Kevin Smith 2.
  • Score 36 point and you win. Score 37...death
  • *presses A to begin Clerks 2
  • The internet can be such an evil place.

kevin smith and night with... changed the way i think, the way i speak, the things i want to do in life....i mean the guy didnt get up out of a wheel chair or anything, nothing inspirational that way but he just kind of smoothed out the rinkles in a colorful way, made me laugh and realised that i can do what i want in life and i dont have to impress everyone...jk kevin...i reccommend night with... to everyone and anyone...1 to 100....its a lot of dirty language but done the right way...best stories out of any mouth in hollywood...
  • I heard he once ironed out the wrinkles in a 3 dollar bill. Then he spent it on a Cow Tipper.
  • Please wait for my respone while I go jerk off in the batroom, brb!
  • Because of the mirror, right?
  • Oooh, cake.

if smith ever got back to his old project called, 'sex & rockets...', people would be blown the fuck away at what he is capable of. love his stuff, but i'm dying to see a true dramatic turn from the guy.

also, you cannot deny the honesty he belts. great stuff.
  • The thing i like about Smith is hes a talker and when he speaks he speaks with tons of passion about whatever hes talking about. I can imagine it would be hard to get a word in edgewise in a conversation but when he does talk what hes saying has so much truth attached that its like hearing your grandpa telling war stories or talking how things were when he was a kid.

Hearing Smith talk makes me wish i hadnt let the world get to me and really followed up on what i really wanted to do and that was and is making films. Ive expanded what i do on the creative end of things in life but have always been too nervous to really pursue a film career.

I applaud him for the body of work he's created and granted some of it sucks but shit if he didn't fucking try like hell and do what he wants to do and has had some really great movies that people can connect to and understand cause they are about them in a sense.

I really like this interview series cause your not gonna find another guy in hollywood thats as brutally honest and real on camera. I get really fucking tired of the "faces" that people put on in interviews and how they are just another fucking character on screen and not actually doing anything but masturbating to their reflection in the lens.

    Good stuff.
  • Terry Gilliam, Robert Rodriguez, Paul Thomas Anderson... 3 other Directors who's commentaries/docos/interviews you should check out if you like filmmakers shooting from the hip or speaking out against the Hollywood norm after finding success.
  • I've always been a Kevin Smith fan, appreciated all of his work and especially appreciate things like this that he likes to put back out there for fans to digest, even if it is just getting it off his chest personally. Truly entertaining and insightful, and just plain f*cking honest.
  • Smith is cool, I would love to talk to him face to face if we ever meet.

Kevin Smith has made one decent film....clerks. he's the most over rated film maker out there today.
  • Jean Valjean
I'd wager that Kevin Smith can drop a Thulsa Doom reference into any conversation, any topic, any time. Contemplate this on the tree of woe.
  • I don't know about everyone else, but i like every single film kevin has made.
  • sorry, I must be logged in to thumbs up.
  • oh, the naivete of kevin smith in 1995 about the internet! lol
