Video Blog: ShoWest 2009

I just got back from ShowWest in Las Vegas. ShoWest is a convention for theater owners where, among other things, Hollywood previews some of their upcoming movies. You’ve seen some of my ShoWest overage on the site over the last week, but there was so much going on that I couldn’t get to it all. Frosty from Collider joins me in this video blog wrap-up, where we take a look at nearly everything that we saw over the course of the four day convention. We broke it into two parts because it runs a little bit long. Here is some of the stuff we talked about:

Neill Blomkamp’s District 9, Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes, Tron 2 3-D, Beauty and the Beast in 3-D, Angels & Demons,  G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Woody Allen’s new film Whatever Works, The Hurt Locker, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, The Hangover, Terminator Salvation, Robert Zemeckis’ A Christmas Carol, Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, The Proposal, The Princess and the Frog, Men in Black 3, Spider-Man 4, Ghostbusters 3, The Ugly Truth, Julie and Julia, and The Year One.

In the last 5 minutes of the video, George (El Guapo) from Latino Review, Alex from First Showing, Ed from Coming Soon, and Katey from Cinemablend make a cameo appearance and briefly discuss their favorite things from the con. A big thanks goes to Katey Rich for producing this segment. She did the camera work and helped us organize the talking points. Without her, we would have been babbling even more than we did. Part 2 is after the jump.

  • now that was cool!
  • Spider-man 4 is mentioned in the article but not on the video. Was there any news about it at ShoWest? It actually might have been mentioned in the video but I don't remember it.
  • Ya, they just mentioned in one sentence that it was in development for 2011, which we already know. That's the only "news" of it there was, nothing else at all...

i like these type of video blogs, Peter! Yah!
  • great video guys, really wish you guys would do more posts like this.

one thing though, you should really use a different internet video player, something like vimeo that has great quality and total ease of use.

otherwise, keep up the great job Pete - you rock.
  • I love how embarrassed Peter was when talking about gambling... Hahahaha! He's like "I don't bet big..." and Frosty is like, you totally do! :P

And as for the things I said... well I totally DO love Zac Efron, c'mon! Just kidding... But District 9 is the shit.
  • Oh, well thanks for clearing that up for me.
  • hohhgh
i noticed peter loves his boba fett hoodie...a lot
  • Yea, he rarely takes it off, ever... Anywhere we go, he always has it on, always!
  • It really just has to do with bandwidth. These two video blogs equal 100mb of video. But you're right, I have no problem uploading them to vimeo or something, so maybe in the future I might do that.
  • thanks pete, but i totally understand what you mean about bandwidth though.
  • You guys have the best jobs ever!!!!!!
  • Jared Bratt

I actually saw Peter in a Buffet inside the Paris but I didn't say anything lol
  • We were all up in the side room, like every big web guy was hanging out there, man! Didn't like that buffet though... Prefer Flamingo more.
  • Can't wait for Whatever Works. I'm a huge Larry David fan and I love me some Woody Allen. Still hoping that Sherlock Holmes will be good.

Just curious if Cobra Commander was in the GI Joe footage you guys saw.
  • AWESOME!
  • "the master of enthusiasm!" take that devin faraci! hahaha
  • Qwerty
How come you guys didnt comment on the Transformers footage? Did you not manage to see it?
  • Man, Peter's totally rocking those sideburns.
  • badenglish

  • District 9 sounds very intriguing.

  • Frankeefourfingers
I didn't even know what showest was, I just saw all these people with the passes around their neck. I was in line for the buffet when recognized you, but I didn't want to bug you guys.
  • whos the guy wearing the black lantern shirt? major props to him
  • RageTreb
Why was there a Bumblebee statue if there was nothing Transformers-related there?
  • Uh, they had some footage... Michael Bay was there and he showed a bunch of footage on the last day during the banquet dinner.

Plus, this was a big promo marketing thing for Paramount, so it was just a bit of promotion sort of because "they were there" in Vegas anyway... Kind of like, why not, a bunch of ShoWest attendees will see it.

So when did the exclamation that someone LITERALLY released
feces into their pants become a positive review for a movie? I hope
it was the beer doing the talking.
  • Frankeefourfingers
I didn't even know about showest I just saw a bunch of people with those tags. I was gonna say something but I didn't want to bug you guys.
  • Haha, that's my roommate man! We picked up all the lantern shirts (black, orange, blue, red) from WonderCon and NYCC so he has 'em all... He wears them all the time, everywhere we go. Even the Golden Apple people were jealous that he has them. I'm not a Green Lantern fan, but he is.
  • frosty's too cool
