  • That is fuckin' hilarious! And yea, take THAT DreamWorks, you suck!! Pixar foreverrrr!!! :)
  • Andrew Stanton=AWESOME
I like most of the movies that Dreamworks has made, but Pixar's movies are WAAAAAAAAAAYY better. Pixar has never made a bad movie - Dreamworks, on the other hand... (Shark Tale and Bee Movie sucked; Shrek 3 was just okay; Over the Hedge was cute and funny, but nothing phenomenal; Madagascar 1 and 2 are pretty good; Shrek 2 is pretty good, but the first one is the best; Monsters Vs. Aliens was silly, but I really enjoyed it; Antz was okay; and Kung Fu Panda was good.) As for Pixar: Toy Story 1 and 2 rocked; A Bug's Life was really good; Monsters, Inc. was amazing; Finding Nemo was breath-taking; The Incredibles was awesome; Cars was really great; Ratatouille was spectacular; WALL-E was one the greatest (if not the greatest) animated movies ever made; and Up freaking rules! Pixar is insanely good, but very underrated. Dreamworks is okay, but really overrated. Pixar always makes the best movies.
  • /face
haha the animals all look like their voice actor counterparts
  • best. webcomic. ever.
  • grox
dreamworks is not just about animation unlike pixar, they also made saving private ryan, ...
  • cAP lOCK oN
sure, they saved private ryan, but they killed tom hanks....dude, that just aint right.
  • On the other hand "Dreamworks Animation SKG" ONLY does animation since they started with The Prince of Egypt.

And the comic is pure awesomenness.
  • I think Dreamwork's best work WAS Prince of Egypt. And it's sad, considering it was their first work.
  • Jess
grox, you're a retard. Dreamworks is all about animation - Pixar is all about telling great stories. Pixar is so much better than Dreamworks in every aspect: animation, humor, storyline, etc.
  • anon
Its from 4chan /tv/ originally i think but still great fun.
  • freemachine
It's amazing how poorly rendered Dreamworks animation is. Pixar's stories, humor, and animation are by far the best ever to grace the screen.
  • I completely agree, but somehow Kung Fu Panda swept ALL of those animation awards against Wall-E last year. Strange...

And I thought Wall-E was the best film of last year. Better than Slumdog IMO
  • Jess
    I agree 100%, Mack41.
  • exarian
studio ghibli is a common inspiration source for pixar. That pretty much explains everything. the best animation studio in north america is inspired directly by the greatest animation studio in japan.
  • Jess
Good point. Pixar rocks! Ghibli rocks too! All of their movies (including Cars and A Bug's Life) are great and will always be great, no matter what anyone says. ;D
  • Pixar = telling a moving, original story for all ages that happens to be through the medium of animation

    Dreamworks = Release date.
  • And now even more when I have found out they are going to make 3 movies a year, starting next year...less time for making a quality product...no matter how many production teams they have.
  • I agree completely. Pixar seens to make movies that feel like timeless stories that will still be relevant in 20 years, where as dreamworks is all about pop cultrure references that will be out of date in 5 years or less.
  • Weyland_Yutani
This is the primary failure of Dreamworks. Instead of letting the jokes come through the story and characters, they manufacture them like a stand-up comedian. That humor will always fall flat with me in an animated film.

For all its success, Shrek pointed the ship in a direction and they have never been able to put it back. For as good as KF Panda turned out, they still couldn't let go of that stuff. I still wish they animated the whole thing like the first few minutes. It was beautiful.

Blue Sky never gets included in this little debate, but I am always far more impressed with their films than I am with Dreamworks. Horton Hears a Who was VERY well done. The design team did Suess right. The animation was fun and the laughs came from the characters.
  • dannyboy
whats the hate towards Dreamworks i bet you love Sherk and some of the others that Dreamwork does
  • Shrek was good, but what else? That's about it. lol
  • shrek is the most overrated "children's" film in recent memory
  • freemachine
Shrek WAS too much of a "childrens's" film for sure. I couldn't sit through the first one because I found it so annoying---mostly because I'm sick of Mike Meyers and his dumb Scottish accent.
  • Square
Amen to that. Modern pop culture references in fantasy land = nonsensical & bad storytelling. Shrek is crap.
  • honestly, kung fu panda wasn't terrible in my opinion.
  • honestly, kung fu panda wasn't terrible in my opinion. and i really like Antz
  • probably the only dreamworks I remember liking was Antz and the first two shrek movies. I've loved every pixar movie. The difference lies in the fact that the first two movies were okay, but have kept the same formula for every movie since. I've heard reports of dreamworks being a counter-creative place to work. I'm not sure where to find it (probably here on /film) but I remember reading about an ex employee talking about how mechanical the movie making process is. Aparently they start with storyboards before even writing a script or some such nonsense. Reading the actual interview really makes you understand why the dreamworks movies are always the same recycled garbage.
  • Antz was a really good animated feature. It was released before A Bug's Life. Woody Allen was great in v.o. for that film.
  • dxr
Nope. Shrek blew from the start. Sorry.
  • excellent, that really cheered me up LOL
  • shadow
I think the first Shrek and Kung Fu Panda had effort and style to them.

However everything else, including the absolutely horrid Monsters Vs. Aliens, is disappointing drivel.
  • omg the face shit is hilarious
  • so true, so true. I've never even thought about that annoying face until now!
  • the truth is neither pixar is that great nor dreamworks that bad.
  • Pixar is great. They have yet to release a bad film. That is greatness
  • Jess
Pixar is that great. They're the best animation company of all time.
  • Perry
Although I do not hold a bias toward either studio (for instance I loved Ratatouille and Kung Fu Panda but disliked Wall-E and Shark Tale), I have to admit that this was pretty hilarious. However I love the work of both Pixar and Dreamworks. Although I have liked most of Dreamwork's films in the past, they need to focus more on quality than profit, which is what they seem to be doing now.
  • cAP lOCK oN
Porn = Release, too; just a diffrent type of release.
  • Gopherine
So true. Shows my exact feelings for both studios.
  • it wouldnt be so overrated if they stopped pumping out dirty sequel after dirty sequel...
  • yes! hee hee hee! its funny because its true!
  • Shrek movies are like the Saw movies. The firsts were both good, but once you've seen them, the rest are just a mindless bloodbath. Still, they keep pumping those suckas out.
  • C-dizzle
You would say that Broomstick. I mean, naturally you'd agree with the film-bloggers. How's that bandwagon treating you?

Kung Fu Panda was great - better than the Shrek films.
  • Agreed. I'd take Kung Fu Panda over Shrek everyday of the week.
  • LODAA
For every crappy Dreamworks film I could name a crappy Pixar film..... Cars... "kachow"... really? Bugs Life..., Monsters inc. And guess what.. it's just my opinion... Why does there have to be "A is better than B" mentality... I just like animation.... and also I'm shocked that this site would put up a story like this.... a tad pixar biased are we....
  • FGH
Everyone here is Pixar biased because it's OBVIOUS that Pixar is better than Dreamworks LOL. I watched the first 10 minutes of Bee Movie yesterday, and turned it off because I was so bored. I'm about 15 minutes into Monsters vs. Aliens right now and am THIS close to stopping it, because I'm so bored... The animation is JUST like it was when Shrek came out. Pixar improves, while Dreamworks just pops out sucky movie after sucky movie, trying to keep up with Pixar and Disney, which is clear that they are the better studios. I also really like Blue Sky studios. The ONLY Dreamworks film I have respect for is the Prince of Egypt... which is REALLY sad, considering it's Dreamwork's first film..
  • Dannymanners
Pixar = What interesting stories and characters can we create?

Dreamworks = How many celeb voices can we get? What trends are in at the moment?
  • lifemare
    totally true, despite very reductive.
does anyone else find the celeb dubbing the most annoying thing in animation today? Recognizing the voice without actually recognizing the actor behind it completely deflects your attention to the movie. And sometimes it's just plain creepy, i mean look at Arthur and the Minimoys, doesn't it make you uncomfortable watching a 60yo slut (madonna) flirting and kissing a 16yo? :puke:
  • The best summary of Dreamworks ever! The one thing I hate about them the most is that they plug there movies based off of all the movie stars who are in it, while Pixar plugs there movies solely based of the plot and story. Shoving all those actors names at me in the trailer screams desperation to me.
  • Yo necesito un gato
I love every Pixar film, all are brilliant, on the other hand I like Over the Hedge and Kung Fu Panda from DreamWorks...Pixar is far superior.
