X-Men Origins: Wolverine Workprint Leaked Online

wolverine

[Update: According to Carlyle (AKA Massawyrm) at Spill.com, the version of the film that's leaked online is most likely an older version that hasn't yet integrated the new material from Hood's recent reshoots.]

Gavin Hood’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine is currently slated for a May 1, 2009 release date in the U.S., but unfortunately, it looks like a few people might be getting their hands on the film a bit earlier than intended. Reports are pouring in that a full-length, DVD-quality workprint of the film has been leaked onto the internet and is quietly making its way across various bittorrent sites and other unsavory online venues. According to Drew McWeeny at HitFix, who has evidently seen parts of the video file,  the copy is “near-finished…marred only by a few unfinished FX shots.” In addition, “there’s no timecode, no watermark…nothing. It’s a clean, perfect copy.”

This is perhaps the biggest leak for a major tentpole release in recent memory. Leaving aside the well-known phenomenon of Oscar screener leaks, workprint leaks have certainly happened in the past. For example, Eli Roth’s Hostel 2 leaked onto the internet several weeks before its release (in that situation, Roth was furious and blamed the leak for the film’s weak box office performance). Other films such as Rob Zombie’s Halloween and Michael Moore’s Sicko also experienced similar issue. However, those films were all relatively small compared to X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a film which 20th Century Fox was probably betting on to help revive its recent lackluster box office performance.

The film’s production has already been plagued by bad buzz, and with a fairly pristine copy of the film floating around for consumption by the very audience the film is targeted at, it will all probably combine to have a dramatic and negative impact on this film’s opening and overall box office performance.

    Happy April Fools!

    This screams virus to me.
  • JOCKD
Who wants an April Fools virus? I wouldn't touch it. Rather wait until May 1.

Who knows what type of PC STD comes with that download.

its the real deal... and boy im glad it was leaked cuzx this movie is awful... Fox and Sony should leave the comic book movies to marvel studios... at least they dont fuck it up as much
  • how is there a DVD of the film when it hasn't been released yet!?
  • Someone is really trying to fuck FOX, cant blame him, but man what an idiot who did these. FOX is really going to fuck that guy up. Also the idiots who try to download this are going to get it bad I bet too, and especially if they sale. Anyone have theories on whats going to happen to the guy who leaked this? Anyone actually watch it?

I suspect that you must be some kind of shill for Fox, given the redundant nature of all your posts on this subject. You made your point, now just let people download it at their own risk. And btw, the IP filters are clean so Fox isn't monitoring DLs at the moment, which means that no one is "going to get it bad" at this point.
  • I am sorry that I am against piracy, fuck me right? Listen I hate FOX as much as everyone else does. But I do feel bad for them here, and especially Hugh Jackman. A lot of people put in a lot of hard work into the movie, only for it to be down loaded for free a whole month before it comes out. Thats kind of fucked up I think.
  • fonz
it's a workprint. you can check out on ninjavideo.net
  • T-MACK
Ha! Honestly, Fox deserves it. The way they've been royally fucking up their cache of films (and a certain WB film), I think it's utterly hilarious that their tentpole summer is making the underground rounds a month before it opens. Karma's a bitch.
  • as much as I hate Fox, this could affect the entire industry.
  • It's not exactly the first time this has happened.
  • I hope you guys do better at April Fools next year.......
  • David
Its true West its leaked. I've seen it.
  • Yeah me too. heard it looks bad though, with strings still attached and stuff. I kinda feel sad, cause alot of people put heaps of effort and time into a film, only to be released almost a month early. I aint gona download this.. I'm gona watch it at theatres.. this stinks.
  • vva
It's real.. I'm sure Fox will be on this quick.
  • shadowdensyn
lmao dont play with my emotions like that
  • john
its probably an april fools joke
  • tame
    Nope. Tis real.
  • I think people need to remember that it is a very rough cut, there is like 15 minutes missing I guess, and a lot of unfinished CGI. But I hear its Ok and better then X3 which is a relief... I hear this has been online for a while today, FOX should have been on it earlier.
  • Harry
I've watched half of it. Not bad so far.
  • david
The Cut is very finished, there are only about 4 scenes that dont have completed CG.
Other then that, there is some rough editing but its pretty much completed.
I enjoyed it, a little disappointed with deadpool, but i loved wade wilson.
  • It's real, you can go on VUZE and download it.
  • This is clearly a way for Fox to have an out when the movie bombs at the box office. Just you wait and see, now they'll blame it's failure on all those internet pirates who downloaded it and didn't pay to see it. I wouldn't be suprised to find out that Fox leaked it themselves. It makes perfect sense.
  • que
its real...downloading from vuze right now
  • There was also the huge leak of the screenprint of Star Wars Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith. I think that was released on or just before the box office opening of the film.
  • indeed there was... it was released, i THINK, a day or 2 before release but it kinda sucked cuz the timestamp was huge.
  • Cheese
    HA i just finished it
i streamed all three parts before it got taken off. unfortunately for one of my friends, he got to see half and didn't load the other parts.

Pretty solid movie, CGI wasn't complete so it'll still be worth seeing in theaters.

    GAMBIT!

I thought Moore released Sicko himself on the internet prior to release.
  • Brandon
Oh and good April Fools :)
  • no joke. Man it's real. wow
  • starscream9289
    Any links, please!
  • go to your fave bittorrent site and search... i'm sure its there, its pretty much everywhere
  • it's on tpb now.
  • starscream9289
    I JUST SAW IT!

And dammit I am gonna pay to see that movie again!
  • dane
  • dee
    not true
    it's a VIRUS
    be careful!
  • it's most likely a workprint made prior to the reshoots that made it's way around the Fox offices...it's a DVDrip more close to a screener and it's a real copy...no April fool's joke here...I feel bad for Fox on this one...although Taken was leaked 6 months before it's U.S. release and still managed to do amazing at the box office....even Slumdog was leaked before it's wide release...it doesn't hurt a good film's box office...if it's an average or bad film, Fox is in trouble if they want to recoop their money....sometimes leaks can help boost promotion of a film...look at Iron Man they almost released all the film with just the clips Marvel Studios posted online...
  • Rajolae
I would hardly consider Taken to have been "leaked" in this kind of sense, the movie had been out since February 2008 in France.
  • still people were able to download it 6 months prior to it's American release where it made most of it's box office money...along with cams that showed up online as soon as it released in Europe...granted the Taken leak was a perfect final DVD copy... this isn't as bad because it doesn't represent the final theater cut...it sort of reminds me of when the first Hulk movie's workprint got leaked online prior to it's release...didn't really hurt box office because of that..it was the fact the movie was terrible
  • i agree with you because I went and watched Taken in theaters and really had no idea it was DVD quality on the internet. I know alot of people that did that.

And with the whole work print being leaked I think this movie will be alright and get it's budget back. It's possible for word to spread that people can get it for free but the majority will still watch it I think.
  • lol
the biggest problem with your argument is that taken made 137 million dollars. damn, it really got hurt by being leaked!

and btw, just watched wolverine. that was some seriously cheesy shit
  • that's what I meant....Taken wasn't hurt by the leak neither was Slumdog, Hulk, Revenge of The SIth...or the many other films...if it's good people will go see it...leaked or not...
  • concrete logic
    It is 100% real.
  • yajustcan't
Ya can't argue with concrete logic.
  • it's not a virus, it's real... its quite finished, maybe before reshoots, but honestly, does it really matter THAT much? i don't think so... some unfinished CGI, but meh... just the load of crap i thought it would be
  • Def wouldn't surprise me, worse has happened. You'd think it'd be nearly impossible to get a CLEAN workprint of a May 1 release out a month early. Either Fox setting themselves up for failure or showing how little Fox really cares anymore.
  • The movie? yes. The copy is great though :)
