I thought sticking with the original Spock hair/ears was the most tacky and dated thing about this otherwise slick and impressive-looking movie... but that green body paint just seized the conch.

No, I didn't expect them to change it, it was just an observation. The rest of the movie looks completely and positively 21st century but the Vulcan hair/ears just look like a cheap Halloween costume and that really stands out, to me, in this context.

That's not to say it would ruin the movie for me or anything -- it's just something I notice whenever I see Quinto in trailers/clips.

And the point of my post was to say that this green-skinned alien girl superseded Spock's makeup and hair on the "no-budget sci-fi, this-looks-out-of-place" checklist.

Diora Baird looks atrocious (not her herself), but the character just looks so cheesy. I suppose it's an homage to the originals, but, well just wow it looks terrible. Sometimes new technologies and CGI are abused, yes, but I feel like something could've been done here to make it look less ridiculous.

These are probably just production stills, taken by a photographer not the film camera. I just watched the trailer to see if i could tell if she was green, cause i hadn't noticed before, and yea she looks green in the trailer, but it looks hard to notice. Plus trading cards are generally as good to look at as the film itself. not as tidied up is what i have come to understand. unless i am wrong.

That has got to be a bad angle and bad quality photo. Rachel Nichols is extremely hot and a lot thinner then that photo lets on. Maybe the makeup is just really shitty. I have a feeling on film it looks a lot better.
