Neveldine/Taylor’s Game: Italian Movie Trailer

Gerard Butler in Game
An Italian movie trailer for Game has shown up online. The new movie from Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor - the madmen that brought us Crank takes us to the sci-fi future world where prisoners do battle in a real life video game. The trailer looks pretty insane, gritty action mixed with sci-fi futuristic tech overlays. And the sci-fi concept is the kind of impossible crazy that could lend it self to a kick ass action flick. And you have to love the use of Marilyn Manson’s cover of the 1983 Eurythmics hit “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)”. Aparently the trailer originated from JoBlo, but I cant seem to find it on their site. Watch the trailer after the jump and let me know what you think in the comments below.

The story takes place “in the not too distant future.” Kabel (Gerard Butler), a death row inmate, has unwittingly become a pop culture hero. Every week, millions worldwide tune in online to watch him and hundreds of other convicts battle in Slayers, an ultra-violent multi-player online game invented by technological genius Ken Castle (Michael C. Hall). To the wealthy young gamer who controls his every move, Kable is just a sim (simulation) character. To the resistance group that opposes Castle’s games as high-tech slavery, he is a critical element in their battle to take down the inventor. Caught in the crosshairs of two opposing forces and under the command of a teenager’s remote device, Kable must use his extraordinary fighting skills to escape the game, bring down Castle and overthrow the system.

A test screening was held in October, and you can read our Early Buzz report for the full scoop. Game is currently scheduled for a September 4th 2009 release.

    that looks.... really bad.
  • That looked pretty crazy and all over the place.
    Looks cool.
  • 10cent
I got a pretty good "badass" vibe going while watching most of the trailer.. then I saw a glimpse of Michael C. Hall and knew I had to see this ASAP.
  • It lookes verry silly, but there is a lot of guns and explosions so it doesnt have to be as deep... and its from the guys who brought us crank.. a really fun silly action movie

    i look forward to this
  • Didn't they steal this storyline from Uncanny X-Men?????? I don't remember what issue it was, but it involved Dazzler, Nightcrawler, Longshot, Colossus and Professor X... mmmm
  • Maybe they used the concept, but I doubt that they stole the whole story.
IMO it's a cool concept. I would've loved to see the X-Men version on the big screen, but I doubt that would ever happen. I figure this won't be a terrible substitute.
  • That looked pretty crazy and all over the place.
    Sounds like a cool concept.
  • In the same vein as Crank. Looks like it could be a whole lot of badass fun.
  • sir
    i disagree.
  • Kenny
I can't wait for this film!!!
  • I think Stephen King's The Running Man is more likely the source

same here. I liked the shot in which Gerard was running on the street among bullets, had a Black hawk down vibe to it and then i saw Michael C. Hall and i instantly decided to follow the flick.
  • It was an interesting script with some real potential, I think. We'll see if it translates. There was a great script called Passengers about ten years back (not the Jonathan Spaihts script from last year) that had some similarities in the conceit, especially in the expression of the virtual world as being a place where you control real people, but from a distance. The Sleep Dealer has that same sense of plugging in to a world far away from you, but with that movie they're controlling robots. Game is more a crazy action movie with the concepts buried under a lot of Neveldine/Taylor's prose acrobatics.
  • Loser
aww crap, I just lost the game.
  • Cheve
I plan on getting my friends with this later.
  • That scene in the streets looks out of control insane! Could be a decent flick, light on plot I'm assuming. "Game" though? Kind of a lame name for a movie - is that really all they could come up with? Love gerard Butler tho.
  • The Running Man with Arnold was such a great movie it had everthing! hokey, a man dressed as a Christmas tree and a game show!!!
  • I don't think we're too far away from game shows like that...just look at Rock of Love and Flavor of Love...lol just put those crazy people in pit against each other and watch the ratings sky rocket
  • Wow, this actually looks fucking cool. And I agree with the other commenters; the moment I saw Michael C. Hall, I knew I had to see it.
  • The Running Man, Death Race 2000, and so on.
  • who are you to disagree?
  • Holy hell this looks good. And even though everyone's already said it: MCH!!!
  • Nice. I've been looking forward to this movie for a while now and I also like the use of Sweet Dreams by Manson.
  • Brad
Neveldine and Taylor make unwatchable crap. Period. This stupid Running Man knockoff will be no exception.
  • Crank is still one of the more original movies I've seen in a long time.
  • Brad
If by original you mean purely awful then I totally agree with you! XD
  • adE
go away brad no onw cares what u think
  • some stuff looked not all that done or full. But near the end it stared to come together.
  • Aaron
The action looks pretty good. I hope they go as far out with the story and Butler's realization of the false world around him.
  • John
It just felt like I was playing some crap video game, not like I was watching a genuine movie trailer. I thought the concept sounded like trash and now I know it looks like it.
  • pretty awesome trailer and I love Michael C. Hall so I will be there opening day
  • Looks like a really fun movie, lets hope it doesn't turn out to be mediocre...
  • Michael C. Hall is in it, how can it be anything less than great?
  • Reason
    You just lost it. ;-)
  • Chad
    "Avalon" anyone?
  • Dan
Neveldine and Taylor are overrated one hit wonders. Game looks like another piece of garbage to add to their growing list of garbage.
  • Darrin
atleast this is an original idea. worth checking out
  • i see what you did there.
  • Incognito
Wow. That looks absolutely fantastic! Can't wait!
  • Fir3Wolf
Damn...I've been trying to see a trailer to this movie for a while and I guess I'm to late, cause its been taken down. :(
  • SKadouche
SO STOKED! it looks like its gonna be kinda dumb and cheesy but in that awesome kind of way.h

I want to know why they some scenes of Sherlok Holmes had to be re-filmed due to them being "to impossible", yet judging by my experiences and the comments on /film, audiences seem to enjoy the impossible, more so than the mundane.

Take it or leave it, I just think we need to see more missiles crashing in to buildings with Gerald Butler leaping of them. Originallity is a key concern of this film, certainly one not to be over looked when decideing whether or not this film is "good" or bad". Remember, there are no "bad" films, just poorley made ones.
  • yeah I've been loving this project since the concept art was released online...it looks slick and fun...I hope the futuristic world works unlike what we saw in Babylon A.D. ...I have trust in Neveldine/Taylor to deliver a good ol' fashion science fiction action flick..it's in the same vein of Total Recall and The Running Man so I'm sold...enough of this PG-13 stuff we adults need to see more of these types of movies... Neveldine/Taylor can't make all our R rated action flicks
  • Aaron
    Tron on crack.
  • Glen
Wasn't this film delayed because the overall press screening went so bad?
  • freemachine
Hastily put together trailer, but the action looks intense. I'll reserve judgment until I see a proper trailer.
