Dennis Quaid is Bill Clinton

quaid clinton

Dennis Quaid is set to play President Bill Clinton and Michael Sheen will reprise his role as British Prime Minister Tony Blair in HBO Film’s The Special Relationship. The movie tells the story of the “unique and sometimes turbulent political relationship between the newly installed PM and the U.S. president.”

Frost/Nixon playwright Peter Morgan will make his directorial debut based on a screenplay he also wrote. Sheen previously played Blair in The Queen and the television movie The Deal, both of which were also scripted by Morgan. Julianne Moore has also signed on to play Hillary Clinton.

Josh Brolin seemed like an extremely odd choice to play George W. Bush in Oliver Stone’s W., but ended up surprising everyone. Quaid seems like a more obvious casting choice for Clinton, but is that a good thing? People might not remember this but Quaid has played a President on the big screen before — in the 2006 comedy American Dreamz.

Discuss: Do you think that Dennis Quaid is a good choice to play Bill Clinton?

  • Why don't they cast that one guy from SNL that has a pretty decent Clinton impression?

I guess Quaid could pull this off but we'll have to wait to see his take on Clinton.

You mean Darrell Hammond. Yeah, he's good, almost too good, and funny as hell.
  • Yep, that's the guy. I knew someone would know who I was talking about. I have to agree with you because he does do a great Clinton. He's also good at alot of others. I think his Regis is pretty good.

    "Blair previously played Blair"...nice

WTF. i read this story bout 40 mins ago and it was Dennis Quaid will play George Bush..
Either that or I am way too tired.
Good picks on the actors tho.. looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
  • Quaid is really becoming a workhorse. He is churning out three or more films a year and is building an incredible legacy.
Brolin was born in texas, so that shouldnt have been that surprising. I think if we check wiki we will find that Quaid is from the South, perhaps.

Can we get an update on "Diane Lane and Mickey Rourk'e KILLSHOT?" I though we would see it in theatres by now.

    thanks,
    The G.
  • This... will be interesting... but I think it's too early to make a movie about the Clintons, but then again THE QUEEN was a good movie.
  • I sense emmy buzz all over Quaid.
  • While Quaid playing Clinton is obviously the draw card, I'd only watch this to see Julianne Moore play Hillary... that casting intrigues the hell out of me.
  • This just proves
  • This just proves that Peter Morgan is a one-trick pony.
  • His Sean Connery is the best though. Him going at it with Ferrell as Trebek on Celebrity Jeopardy was classic.

I'd be interested to see what Quaid could do with the role. As Peter noted above, no one expected Josh Brolin to rock the Bush role as well as he did.
  • Wow, so Michael Sheen is just going to make a career out of playing Blair, huh?

How about Travolta? He was a decent "Clinton-esque" presidential candidate in Primary Colors. Or is that too obvious...

Edit: Also, could Travolta play it straight enough? Quaid can certainly come off dead serious.
  • Yeah but Sheen has played Blair many times as well. Travolta seems like a better choice than Quaid. I think his voice is too low and not husky enough. His eyes don't look right either. I think they should get Clinton to play Clinton. I don't think he's doing much right now.
  • I'll have The-Rape-ist!
  • I wonder how Michael Sheen would feel if Tony Blair went around impersonating him.
  • That one was pretty good. Celebrity Jeopardy is possibly one of the best things to come out of SNL, they're all so funny.
  • Ah you can't forget the Anal Bum Cover.
  • Is he a good choice? Sure. The best? Perhaps not, but he's capable enough to pull it off.
  • gah
Quaid made an excellent Bush-esque character in whatever that crappy American Idol movie was called. He seems like he would be a much better Bush than Clinton. I always thought Travolta as a Clinton type character in Primary Colors was inspired casting.
  • Nice article, gives some good info...

    keep it up...
