transformers 2

Steve from Collider is a good friend of mine. At least a few times a week we talk about upcoming movies, TV shows, what gossip each of us have heard, and anything else we might find exciting. Since a number of our conversations cover things you also might find interesting, we’ve decided to start recording certain conversations as video blogs. Past video blogs have included The Future of the Batman Film Franchise, The Box Office Prospects of Watchmen and thoughts on the first 46 Minutes of Pixar’s Up.

We were recently talking about some of the movies coming out this summer and realized we should do some video blogs about the 2009 Summer Movie season. We were a little too ambitious, and thought we could squeeze two months worth of films into one blog, but as usually happens, we ran out of time. So the first part of our Summer movie preview was posted on Sunday (you can watch it here). In part 2, we take a look at the movies of June 2009: Land of the Lost, The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, Moon, Year One, The Hangover, and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Please leave your thoughts on the movies of June 2009 in the comments below.

We’ll be posting part 3 on Friday. Finally, Steve and I are on Twitter. To follow me click here and click here to follow Steve.

I have a long list of movie I want to check out this year. Public Enemies, Inglorious Basterds, Terminator, and Moon are just a few I will be checking out later this year.
  • Saw Moon at SXSW, and I loved it. Totally non-stereotypical Sci Fi, even if you can see some of the twists coming its a fun ride.
  • lmao these vid blogs are amazing
  • Public Enemies, Inglourious Basterds and Terminator

i'm all about star trek, public enemies, drag me to hell, terminator and transformers i think. oh and harry potter should be good too. but star trek is my #1.

    Looking forward to, Whatever Works.
  • i think Pelham 123 will take a few people by surprise. looks pretty good to me. but i've never seen the original.

The Hangover looks like more brilliance from Zach Galifanakis.

Year One will be good for a few laughs. it looks like a modern type of "Life of Brian", only with major cameos.

Revenge of the Fallen will kick major robot ass. and i'll agree with you peter, Bay was born to make these movies. it is truly his calling.

i really want to check out Moon. from what i've heard (aside from peter's rants on here) it's fantastical. Sam Rockwell is a complete lock for me.

I wonder what opening Steve is talking about.
  • Tom
    "Why people hate Bay?" seriously?
think well... i'll give you a hint: his a terrible action director. the action scenes in his films is terrible. you cant understand a thin.
  • I Hate Tom
dude, learn to spell/type correctly. your statement will be more valid that way.

"Pelham 1 2 3" looks horrible. I hate Tony Scott and the over-used "gritty" vibe he puts in his films (plus he casts Denzel in everything, get a new lead man already!). The film that I'm most excited for is "Inglorious Basterds". The script is badass, the trailer is badass, and as we all know, QT is badass. I'm also looking forward to "Moon". I love a good psychological sci-fi flick, and Sam Rockwell is one of my favorite actors right now. (although "Choke" was crap-tastic). "Transformers 2" will be a good popcorn flick to check out when you're stoned. A one-time-only view for me. "Land of the Lost" will be crap. Will Ferrell needs to make more movies like "Stranger than Fiction". His acting is pretty good when he's not trying to be a character from SNL. "Year One" will only be funny because of Cera, that kid is the man right now. "The Hangover" will be a decent flick, but I imagine it will be forgetable like all the other buddy-"Road Trip" style comedies theses days....
  • I've seen Hurt Locker three times it's an amazing flick...people should check it out!!!
  • Kjetil
Pelham 1 2 3 will rock! Tony Scott, Denzel, R rating. This alongside Public Enemies are the two big ones for me this summer.
  • Paul Blart
The first transformers movie was bad on every level even the CGI was wasted on poor designs. The comedy and ad lib dialogue along with overacting made me throw up. The producers didn't even want the Transformers to talk. The director said that he thought "he was filming a dumb f'ing robot movie and nobody took it seriously" which shows in the film.
The plot was bad = bumblepee is trying to save the world by finding the glasses but needs to try and get some nerdy kid laid (lets see how much time we can waste)? The script and the directors choice for ad-libbing the lines to most scenes made it seem like some poor teen comedy parody. Most fight scenes were edited poorly. For an action blockbuster it had very little coherent action. A complete and utter waste for a great franchise.
  • Paul Blart just called Transformers a bad movie. Trust him!
  • Really, really, really looking forward to The Hangover, Moon, and Transformers 2. Those three will be getting my money, while the others are either for the second-run theaters, or a DVD rental.
  • Moon would be the film I have to see this June. Brothers Bloom in May, for sure. I was thoroughly pissed when they kept pushing it back.

And please, even if it a nonsensical ramble, guys - do a Lost-centric episode.

Peter, I think this is the scene you're talking about. Skip to the 1:50 mark to see the airplane scene.
  • So far it seems as though the month of June has nothing on the movies of May. I really want to see Moon, the new Transformers movie, and I guess Year One.
  • Completely agree, May has everything I want. Terminator + Star Trek = Win!
  • tone
i cant wait for bruno personally.
  • TIM
    PETER,
IF ORCI AND KURTZMAN DECIDE NOT TO RETURN AS WRITERS FOR TRANSFORMERS 3, WHO DO YOU THINK THE STUDIO SHOULD GO AFTER TO PEN THE SCRIPT?
  • Matt
Now I want to know the opening to Transformers 2 is. I can't wait for that movie
  • The film(s) that I'm most looking forward to this summer would be either Star Trek or Inglourious Basterds.

Ass-Kicking Action in Space OR Bloody Battered Nazi Death? Tough Call.
