In a past edition of Cool Stuff, we posted about a very limited edition DVD player that was constructed out of a head from one of the Terminator Endoskeletons. With the upcoming release of Terminator Salvation, Lionsgate is planning to release Terminator 2 on Blu-ray on May 19th. The Terminator 2 Skynet Edition will be available for a limited time in the Limited Edition T2 Complete Collector’s Set, a 6-disc set that comes packaged with a 14″ T-800 Endoskull bust that plays sound effects from the film while its eyes light up. In addition to the  Terminator 2 Skynet Edition Blu-ray, the set comes with both the Extreme Edition DVD and Ultimate Edition DVD – which, combined, include every T2 special feature ever released on DVD. As a bonus, the set comes packed with a digital copy of the film for iTunes or Windows Media. Yes, six discs might be a little extreme for one movie, especially sie many of the discs include the same film with varied special features, but the Terminator skull might be too cool to pass up.

The Limited Collector’s Set has a MSRP for $174.99, but is available for preorder on Amazon for $121.99. Of course, you can buy the Skynet Blu-ray edition by itself for $29.99 ($19.99 on Amazon), but that doesnt’s come with the additional DVDs or Endoskeleton head. I have included more photos, details on the contents of the Skynet edition and cover art after the jump.

I cannot tell you how much I want this, but the price, even at that markdown, is still a bit steep. But, it would replace my duel disc special Artisan edition and give me the special features I've wanted from the follow up discs, not to mention the Blu-Ray version. But in all fairness, I can't imagine the average collector wanting to shell out for an obvious geek purchase.

Just give me the film in a slimcase, who the hell has room for crap like this? I hate it when DVDs are packaged in obnoxious non-shelf-fitting sizes. I still regret my Battlestar Galactica "Cylon Head" set, I have no place to put the damn thing. I also hate it when DVDs come packaged with postcards, comic books, etc. I just end up throwing that clutter away.
  • DAMN I WANT THAT SOOOOO MUCH !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just get the blu-ray, anyone buying this right when it comes out is truly a sucker in my mind.

What a tremendous waste of money.
  • Last thing I want is that staring back at me while I'm trying to enjoy a film. It's bulky and impracticable and so very, very perfectly geekish.
  • looks amazing, but I can't afford it.

    Terminator 2 on Blu-Ray

    *DROOOOOLLL*

Wait, this is Cameron film, could there be an AVATAR tease on the disc?

Here we go again. I have the Extreme Edition DVD and the Blu-Ray already. Now there's going to be the Skynet Edition DVD. Plus this stupid package.
Why can't they just release 2 or 3 disc Blu-Ray that comes with all those extras instead of just throwing all those discs together like that?
  • Amazing but pricy as always... im really curious what 26 cast and crew members ... what intesting things would some of these ppl have to say? and are they 26 individual commentaries or does the lights guy get his own commentary?
  • I know there were at least (3) DVD versions released of T2 (barebones, Ultimate Edition and Extreme Edition). There was already a Blu-ray release of it and now we're getting a second. This stuff is getting out of hand.
  • I need this!!!
  • And before anyone comments, YES, this post was live on the site for a couple hours yesterday, but that was an accident. Which explains why it disappeared and reappeared this morning :)
  • Steel boards trio decided to buy dofus kamas the order of special skills
  • I'm a relatively large Terminator fan, but I already own 'T2' on DVD and that is enough for me. However if they sold the limited edition terminator skull separately, I would definitely buy that on it's own instead.
  • I really want to buy this, I just don't think I can keep buying T2. How many editions of this movie have been released? It's got to be a ton.
  • Ok, so at first i was really pissed to hear of yet another DVD release of T2. I purchased every single version since it first came out. I even had that Extreme version that had the sharp metal case that cut your DVD box to ribbons everytime you tried to get it open.

As completely awesome as this is.... WTF is with the price? This is like that Nightmare Before Christmas DVD box that had the Jack head in it. $130 for a movie? I don't care how many discs they are... the LOTR box sets werent near this much.

Besides, I'm pretty sure you can buy a T-800 skull of almost the EXACT design for like... $200, and it looks better.

SOmeone should go all out and just buy that life size T-800 endoskeleton from Sideshow Collectibles.

This would have been awesome 10 years ago, at this point if I see another fricken endo skull I'm gonna puke.
  • Collector
Perhaps you are thinking of the Sideshow Collectibles Endoskull that retailed for $500 and usually sells for that or more on eBay? They are long since sold out.

While it may be quite poor quality (we won't really know until someone actually has one on hand), these endoskulls are by far the cheapest licensed version made.

I just bought the T2 limited edition this is so cool
    It's real well done.
I am a big fan and I love it..These editions are super awesome to have.

It's worth it big time and the detail is cool
    I recommend it..
  • Disappointed
I just bought the Skynet (PAL) edition to play on my Pioneer DVD/Blu-Ray drive (in my PC) and it won't play. I have the Cyberlink software which came with the drive and it has played the other 15+ DVD's, but this one won't play. I've also tried to play it with (and, without) AnyDVD-HD (which helps me with Region Code problems).

Some preliminary research seems to indicate a highly restrictive DRM code or BD problem. Don't want to buy any other software (US$70 to US$100) or more hardware. I love the movie but it looks like I'll have to wait until someone rips it, defeats the copy/play protection, and then posts a HQ H264 version before I can finally enjoy the movie I paid full price for.

Oh yeh, 5-6 years ago I bought the DVD which apparently had a (quasi-)HQ version on it, but it needed custom software to be installed which would have compromised my existing software, so I have never been able to see that version either. Thought that buying the Blu-Ray version would finally enable me to see the HQ version - but that's a no-go again.
  • Disappointed
    Ops - I meant to say '15+ Blu-Day discs' instead of "15+ DVD's".

I also purchased a LG DVD/Blu-Ray/HD-DVD player (for my PC) which also played the "15+ Blu-Day discs" plus about 5 or 6 HD-DVD disks, but now it is defunct and needs servicing. I can also access the individual files on the Blu-Ray disk (with the Pioneer player) and at least one of them plays with Media Player Classic (Home Cinema) - I believe it plays one or more segments because they are not protected AND because I installed the K-Lite Media Pack.

In the end, its a great disappointment and I am loath to spend any more money on Terminator stuff (even though "Terminator, The Sarah Conner Chronicles" both in DVD and Blu-Ray formats, play without any problems).
