  • were is the one used in the trailer

Here's the trailer music, which is just fantastic.

  • this is by far the most epic trailer music to date. The last to being the theatrical trailer for LOTR: ROTK. My opinion at least. You just feel like you are part of something colossal , powerful, and inspiring.
  • The one used for the trailer was from a show I think. Forgot which one..BUFFY?
  • Frickin' LOVE this score so much!! Michael Giacchino is such a huge up-and-coming composer. I've loved all of his recent scores and I've got a feeling this one will be pretty frickin' incredible... Can't wait to hear it all!
  • Christophe
Only frickin'? Because I FUCKING love it!
  • ever though of calling yourself, Bill Billington? I like the sound of it.
  • Ivy
oh I love it! gorgeous and epic, and completely fitting!
  • mkw
Sounds very Losty at points. Love the Lost score, though, so I'm down with that.
  • at the beginning a little bit yeah. kind of took me back to season 2...the feeling of the others.
  • You know, I think that's because Giacchino DID the Lost music as well... ;)
  • fonz
Blows. Disappointing. Not as good as LOST
  • sounds great! true, LOSTish, but sick none the less
  • Well, it sounds like Lost.

The problem is, Star Trek isn't Lost.
  • it sounds.... good? i don't know, it doesn't sound like STAR TREK to me.

I just want the movie to come out so i can share set stories.
  • Stranger
    Sounds absolutely appropriate.

Speaking of The Dark Knight, Zimmer struck a perfect balance in The Dark Knight. But the entirety of what was so potent in TDK's score was based on its use of themes. And Zimmer did them beautifully.

If this is indeed Giacchino's score, it works: sounds part conventional summer movie score (ala, John Williams), part sci-fi serial and part moody space opera.

Oh, and I mean no disrepect with "conventional." And, this seems like an odd thing to post on. Weird, tangential things get posted coming up to big summer releases. I get it, Paramount; you want me to see Star Trek. I'm there.
  • I absolutely loved "Roar!" the end title piece that is heard during the credits of Cloverfield. I'm pretty confident that Giacchino will deliver (thanks to his versatility when it comes to composing music).

The score in the trailer is not from Buffy. It’s called “Freedom Fighters” by an artist known as “Two Steps From Hell.” Like Immediate Music, they compose scores specifically for trailers. You can find it on youtube.

Absolutely moody and definitely unlike anything from Trek. A lot of Lost in there too.
  • Kenneth
I think it sounded decently Trek, just not the Trek we've become used to. It sounded like a movie adaption of TOS music, not the motion picture music, which I think is pretty cool.
And being that the last two film scores were completely forgettable (I tried), anything that sticks in your mind and makes you ask for more is good in my opinion.
  • Listen to the Star Trek: The Motion Picture score. It's also pretty lofty and moody.
  • Bill McBillington
  • cool
  • Eric R.
I think its one of the best score for Star Trek that I've heard, great job with it. Look forward to hearing more.
  • obin
meh - i wanted to hear some notes from the theme :(
  • Weyland_Yutani
It's just a small part of a large score. Giacchino will have delivered something pretty great. He's one of the best. They are holding back the big themes and I'm glad for it.

Also, I hate hearing Zimmer get all credit for The Dark Knight. James Newton Howard gets equal billing on that. They collaborated fully on the project. Some pieces, such as Harvey Dent's theme, were worked on much more by JNH, while others have Zimmer's hand more apparent. The two did a great interview together that you can find somewhere on the web.
  • Can't wait till the whole score is out!
  • Michael
The music from the trailer wasn't by Giacchino, was it? I thought it was licensed.
  • It was by Two Steps from Hell. Track title is Freedom Fighters.
  • merlin
why is giacchino's name hidden in the text field but displayed prominently in the name of the article?
  • Orgammamon
sounds boring to me. Doesn't match TDK in terms of sense of profundity going on.
  • 1:00 and on is EPIC!
  • Epic.
  • StickManDidge
It has potential. I would have liked to have heard the clip in full bandwidth. One has to remember that Trek's musical scores are also, almost, a cast member. If MG doesn't incorporate Sandy Courage's "Enterprise Fanfare" from the original, I am going to be sorely disappointed. BUT, I look forward to MG putting a new edge to Trek's score!
  • it's "Freedom Fighters" by Thomas J. Bergersen, one of the Two Steps From Hell composers.
