Video Clip: One Minute of Pixar’s Up

up house

Disney has released a clip from Pixar’s Up. Here is the set-up: The scene takes place after our heroes, a retired cranky old man named Carl and a wilderness explorer named Russell who stowed away on Carl’s flying house (as you’ve seen in the the teasers) have landed in South America. They are trying to move the house to a certain location and are dragging the house through the jungle like a float from the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade.Watch the one minute clip after the jump.

Thanks to /Film reader Ryan W for the tip.

  • Weird, and I didn't like it to much, Aw, hell no, I can't wait!
  • I thought the clip was pretty funny. They pretty much nailed the way kids behave. I love the line, "my knee hurts...which knee...my elbow hurts." I'm glad they keep promoting it. Though the plot of the movie might be a little more eccentric than their past movies they still have that certain pixar charm.

Boy scouts....are a bunch of liars if you ask me. And I used to be one of them!
  • that's where your mind was supposed to go
  • butttered
yeah it seemed obvious. and funny.

i usually think pixar can do no wrong, but that really is a terrible terrible clip to put out there. i have no idea what they were thinking in releasing that. still, cant wait for the film, just a pity all of us over here in europe are getting royally screwed on the release date as per usual with all the pixar stuff (its out sep24th here in germany). looks like ill have to go the crappy download option again before having the chance of seeing it in the theatre.
  • pixar are just brilliant. can't wait for this one.

Pixar tends to release weird promo clips, Ratatouille's teaser was bland, WALL-E's vignettes were boring after the first two. This clip makes no sense really, but it's like they always intend not to show the best bits everytime. The best sequences of Ratatouille and WALL-E, not mentioning their old films, were only glimpsed at and they premiered with the films themselves.

No, actually no one I know (that doesn't frequent these sites) knows anything about it more than a floating house with balloons. So I don't think they're over-promoting this. They're not doing it exactly right though.
  • No, they are under-promoting this film, noone knows what is about in here....other film that are under-promoted are Avatar and Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones which is coming this year, yet we know nothing of it.

Terrible clip to release. It makes no sense, the animation is bland and lacks the dynamic cinematography I expect from Pixar (the background is totally static). They need to show-off something more exciting, like maybe the portion of a chase sequence, as no doubt there will be at some point considering this is an adventure movie.
  • yaaaaaaaaaa
well, you know, it's one fuckin minute of the movie, I'm pretty sure you can't make that conclusion from it.
  • freemachine
Make what conclusion? I never said the movie was going to be awful. But I don't see the point of releasing a humorless 1 minute clip that doesn't show the talent of Pixar's writers or animators.

I'm positive the movie will live up to my high expectations, but I'm positive that this scene will not be among the things people regard as memorable. I'd rather see a 10 second clip of something spectacular or at least funny.
  • I wasn't sure about Ratatouille until I saw it, or even Cars (I enjoyed that way more than I thought I would)

Maybe Pixar should not churn out these little clips or 'Upisodes'. Show us a trailer or two, and that's fine, it's Pixar! It'll have a huge opening weekend anyway!
  • Based off all the news that we keep getting about Up, and all the promotional stuff Pixar continues to release, I would think that they're actually over-promoting this film.

Yet...when I talk to a lot of my less film-conscious friends, they think it's just about a house that floats. None of them even know that Dug is in the story.

Is all of this only creating buzz on forums and blogs? or are most people you guys know seeing this stuff?

Didn't they already show a clip of the movie a while ago?
  • Antibodies
He's got a spade to dig a hole and leaves to wipe his ass. What's not to get?
  • Logan
    get. owned.
  • Scene seemed weird, but the animation still is marvelous :D It sucks that I have to wait another month after the American release until they release it in here....I could download it then watch it twice at the theater so I help Pixar anyways though. :p
  • Really Excited, I love their dynamic!
  • gah
this is an odd scene to show because it doesnt make sense nor is it funny outside of the context of the film.
  • googlegorglejorgle
it isn't a self contained little scene yeah, because it references some sort of hearing aid problem we haven't been privy to and ends with the setup of another gag that's unclear (Russel making fake tracks/tiger call with leaves perhaps?)

Still, I like what I saw.
  • Trystan
Oh, my mind went to him wiping his ass with the leaves or something
  • gah
yeah, im still really excited for this film. I love everything Pixar has done (cars aside) and I have no doubt this will be a masterpiece as well. It just seems like a terrible choice for a promotional clip.
