Russell Brand Talks Sarah Marshall Spin-Off

russell brand

The other night on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, Russell Brand appeared to promote his new book. During the appearance, he talked briefly about the announced Forgetting Sarah Marshall spin-off film Get Him to the Greek, where Russell reprises his role as British rock star Aidous Snow.

“I’m playing that character, Aidous Snow again, in a movie that Judd Apatow is producing. I’m starring alongside the brilliant actor Jonah Hill. [In the movie] Aidous Snow has gone back on drugs and Jonah Hill is his friend and they go on many adventures together. It’s very exciting.”

Sarah Marshall helmer Nicholas Stoller is signed to direct. Russell supposedly already filmed a montage of sex scenes last summer featuring a series of celebrity cameos which include Katy Perry, Christina Aguilera and Pink. Strangely, Hill plays a completely different character than the guy he played in Sarah Marshall. He plays a young music executive who bullshits his way into accompanying Aidous (or babysitting the rockstar) from London to Los Angeles, where he has a big performance at the Greek Theatre. Filming begins in April and will span Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York and London. You can watch Brand’s appearance on the show embedded below. Thanks to /Film reader Bryan W for the tip.

  • I can't even look at his face without feeling hte urge to reshape it with a sledgehammer
  • lol
  • I also feel the same angst at this butt nard.
  • i just went from 6 to midnight.
  • SARAH_FAN
    LOL I quote that frequently
  • essjaydee
ace, he does get a bad rap from certain media sources, but if you've listened to his radio show, he is genuinely hilarious and his thought processes border on the genius at times. Plus his character in FSH was the highlight of a very good movie. I'll be there.

Whenever I see Russell Brand I'm reminded of this Ricky Gervais quote:
"I think comedy is about the underdog. I really don't think there's anything funny about unseasonably handsome people doing things well. That's why I don't like comedians trying to be cool or sexy or rock 'n' roll. There's also no place for narcissism when you're a comedian. The comedian should be the butt of the joke. The targets when I do comedy are me, and the audience, and their foibles and prejudices. I don't want someone to come out and tell me how good they are. There's nothing amusing about that." -Ricky Gervais
  • Have you actually heard Brand's comedy? He really is quite self-deprecating. I mean, I like Ricky Gervais, too. They're both funny in their own unique ways.
  • How long it must have taken you to transcribe that quote from where ever you found it, to this comment page. I think that tells us all something about your life.

google. copy and paste. it takes mere seconds to do.
  • Google huh? I gotta try that out.
  • gah
google. copy and paste. it takes mere seconds to do. plus im bored at work. what are you gonna do?
  • Copy, Paste. What point were you trying to make, exactly??
  • dave
ssshhh i dont think ryanboy has discovered the copy/paste art yet. give him time, he seems to still be in the troll phase we all go through during our internet adolescence. he will soon evolve and begin writing heavy handed snark like the rest of us.
  • Someone here put it best when they called Brand the UK version of Dane Cook.
  • Jake
Dane cook? Have you actually listened? Ignorance!
  • that is some incredibly inconsistent back combing! it looks like his skull is slowly-horizontally exploding in the profile shots. let the lesson be learned kids, you can't just tease your crown, you have to spread the love or your dome will look lopsided.

also, was that a promotional stop for the book? i seriously have no idea what the hell the book is about after watching this clip

google. copy and paste. it takes a mere seconds to do. this is the 21st century.
  • It seems like today's audiences won't be able to pick up on the idea that it's not the same Jonah Hill character from Sarah Marshall. This seems kind of odd...
  • well thats a lil odd they are changing hills character given the fact he was so obviously gay for the man in forgetting sarah marshall.
  • i fucking hate Russell Brand, he's not funny and needs to go away. He's the British Dane Cook.
  • lol i just read the comments. glad to know i'm not the only one who hate him.
  • I found Russell Brand one of the redeeming parts of Forgetting Sarah Marshall. I'm definitely intrigued by this spin-off project, but honestly, I could take it or leave it.
  • really? a spin off?

    ...no thanks.
  • Drew
Sarah Marshall was not funny. This will not be funny.
  • SARAH_FAN
Sarah Marshall was funny. This will be funny.

    Logic'd bitch!
  • SARAH_HATER
Actually it wasn't that funny. Just a juvenile attempt at comedy. The main character was pathetic and most of the characters unlikable. The story - unoriginal and predictable. Except for a few parts (I actually liked the Dracula bit) it was a crappy movie. Oh, and I thought Russell Brand was OK. Go figure.
  • Surprised by all of the Brand hate here, I think the guy is hilarious and this film sounds great. Looking forward to it.
  • I hope the people that hate Russell Brand aren't basing there opinion on that horrible hosting job he did during the VMA's because that's a tough gig for any comic and he's much better then that. Take a look at some of the guys stand up I think he's actully pretty funny. And he not the UK version of Dane Cook because he actully writes his own jokes :)
  • Russell Brand put in a decent performance in 'Sarah Marshall', but I don't think he can head a whole feature film, even alongside Jonah Hill. Also, I find Russell Brand hilarious. I saw him doing stand-up last year and I could not stop laughing, also his show on British radio was brilliant until the tabloid media typically blew things way out of proportion.
  • mcgruff
sarah marshall was hilarious. brand was hilarious. "sodomize intolerance." bring it on.
  • GROW UP
  • Rasmus
The idea of people comparing Brand to Dane Cook to eachother is very strange to me because they are pretty much the Messiah and the Antichrist respectively in my current comedic awareness...
Also, Dane Cook deficates on the English language, Russell Brand embiggens it.
  • Dane Cook
I think Dane Cook's suckage is universal. UK, US, Internet, Outerspace... Dance Cook is life's poorly delivered punchline.
  • Seriously though, you know how simetimes you just irrationally dislike someone because of their face? That is what happens with Russel Brand except it's like the most extreme face hatred I have ever felt.
  • I agree. Gwen Paltrow does the same for me too.
  • Louise
I think he's absolutely beautiful, disconcertingly handsome, as do 1000s of other women. Is this some kind of envy you are experiencing?
  • agreed. i loved FSM, and i just caught Brand's stand up special on Comedy Central the other night. it's fantastic.
  • i'll probably see this flick, but i do have a question. who's writing it? i know the movie could be done without Segal's involvement (Brand improvised a lot of his stuff from FSM), but does anyone know what his opinion is on the project?

i'm not, however, sold on the idea of Hill getting a new character. it would be different if he only had one bit scene in the first. maybe they'll explain it in this movie.
  • Chris
I like Russell Brand. By the way Peter, it's Aldous Snow not Aidous.
  • ALDOUS_FAN
thank you. I was just about to do this
  • Andrew
    One word:

AWESOME. I loved Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and I'd love to see Alduous Snow get his own movie. Weird that Jonah Hill's playing a completely different character, though.
  • Palmer
Instead of talking about Russell Brand or the spin-off I'm going to talk about Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. While I realized he just started the gig, I'm not too keen on him being the host. His opening monologue is just not funny, his "skits" are slightly pointless. And the product placement is just weird with the "Bud Light Lime Green Room". It was just too early for Conan to move to the Tonight Show, and even then we have to wait till June.
  • I was waiting to hear some news on this mostly on Jonah Hill's character, it is kinda weird that he is gonna play a different character tho but it should turn out fine, Russell Brand is a funny dude so I'm def gonna see this...
  • Its just language!
  • Geet
And here I thought it was "Aldous Snow". Didn't know it was an I instead of an L, not that it matters I guess.
  • are you serious? FSM had heart and Jason Segel is hilarious and likable. Russell Brand was very enjoyable also.
  • JJB
he was cool in sarah marshall, but not worth all the massive hype.
  • Russell was funny az in Sarah Marshal.. He was just on a live show down here in Australia, did not mention anything about this film, but sure does sound like an interesting movie.
  • I am more surprised that the guy can write.
