Dakota Fanning Cast in New Moon

fanning new moon

Dakota Fanning has been cast in The Twilight Saga’s New Moon. Rumors first began to circulate in January, but it was finally confirmed over the weekend. The 14-year-old actress will play the role of Jane, a member of the Volturi, an Italian group of vampires who maintain vampire order and ensure that humans don’t find out about vampires’ existence.

In New Moon, Edward flees to see the Volturi following a grave misunderstanding about the state of Bella’s well-being, and asks them to end his life. According to E!, Jane was described in the casting notice as “a petite blonde with a ‘Botticelli angel-like face…[and] crimson irises.’ While fellow Volturi guards Demetri & Felix ‘are three times the size of her, they are terrified of her.” Filming begins later this month and the movie is set for a November 20th 2009 release (if you’re thinking that they might be rushing things a bit, you might be right..).

  • I am actually sort of curious to see if she can pull this off.
  • LEAVE HER ALONE!!!!!!!! PERV-O!
  • A Shame.
  • I wonder if this will be the role that will catapult her from being recognised as a 'child' star to a 'teenage/adult' star? After all, she was great as the loveable, innocent, cute little girl in her early roles (i.e. 'Man on Fire', 'Sweet Home Alabama', 'War of the Worlds'), but recently I couldn't stand her in 'Push' (then again, I couldn't stand the whole terrible movie all-together). Also, as she got the tenancity in her to play an 'angelic-vampire'?
  • yeah, this could be it, BUT she just got casted in a biopic, the Runaways, which I think will be her bigger breakout role for more adult/teen territory.
  • yuck, why is she being desecribed as a virginal sex object or something? God, Hollywood is full of perverts.
  • That's how they've stayed in business so long.
  • This will be like a 60 minute movie with how they want to film it. Then again, plenty of movies have done it, so we will see. Or actually, I probably won't. Twilight burns me.
  • Twilight burns everyone's existence by having to put up with this bs
  • at least they're rushing it. they want to capitalize while it's hot. the trend will not last too much longer, and we won't have to hear about these films for too much longer.
  • Anyone going to see this purely because Dakota has been cast deserves the painful torture they will endure.
  • but Dakota will bring more "credibility" to the franchise because she can, you know, ACT. She's considered to be A-list.
  • This role would be great for her, I think she can carry it well. :)
  • dagreenman18
And any credibility she had as an actress goes flying out the window.

statistically, she's bound to start getting high and hammered within the next few years, so she has to strike while she can
....before making her rehab comeback in 2020.
  • "statistically, she's bound to start getting high and hammered within the next few years, "

    One can only hope.
  • ...in a film about a drug addict who makes good.
  • Ha, this is being filmed in Vancouver under the fake title "Untitled Sports Movie".
  • Fanning as evil vampire? seems like a nice role for her, to shake the "nice girl" stigma
  • I agree. Interested to see how she pulls it off
  • Nah, I think she will grow up to be successful like Jodie Foster. she's not a Lindsay Lohan or Miley Cyrus whore.
  • Jodie Foster? you mean RosieO'donnell or Ellen Degeneres or.... wut?
  • Jodie Foster was a child actor in the 70s.
  • and I thought that Dakota Fanning was actually a decent upcoming actress for shame...
  • The release date is insane! It's takes at least two years to make a movie worth watching.
And they aren't ahead in filming like LOTR was.

As for Fanning, she has been in a lot of things lately hasn't she?
  • No big surprise, Summit offered the role, she wanted it...it was only a matter of time, but I'm glad a deal was worked out. The filming/release schedule is insane ...so I don't hold much hope, but the kiddo will of course want to see it opening day.
  • If anything it will boost her profile amongst the teenyboppers who don't realize she's a child actor growing up quick. But boosting a profile amongst that audience in a sequel that will prove to be hip-after-the-fact should promptly remove her from this supposed 'A-list'. It's a step backward for her, AND the sequel.
  • bravo.
  • Rushed is definitely an understatement. Considering the amount of time that they put in for the last one and what they ended up with...I'm not going to hold my breath for anything better this time around. They have a bigger budget for this one, right? Not that, that necessarily means anything. I can see why they would cast her in that role. Hopefully, it doesn't end up giving her a label she won't be able to shake. It's sad that Hollywood can make bank on an obviously mediocre product just because the general public chooses to keep taking it.
  • I'm still hopeful... oh I hope I don't get my heart broken again! They have a new director and I'm really REALLY hoping that... uh... he won't try and be so 'artsy' about presenting the film... and when I say 'artsy' I just mean wierd. I still have hopes that they can pull off a decent movie this time around...
  • We went a couple of years without seeing her on the main stream with Hounddog and the short by Kate Hudson. I really didn't like push S.L.O.B. wasn't my type of movie but The Runaways sound like a great fit for her fans who are getting older with her

  • Dakota Fanning as a terrifying tween vampire? Should be interesting.
  • kinda makes me want to see it. they're really figuring out how to attract a broader audience than just the hardcores. the drew barrymore news is quite interesting as well.
  • boo
The Drew Barrymore rumour is not true!!!Aparrantly she started it herself.
  • Wildflower
It's on the MTV website..... I would think that would be pretty accurate.... Hmmm, but, I'm not sure!
  • It is true... she verified it in a recent interview... but it's only true that she's "in talks" not that she has it.

Where do I sign the petition for Slashfilm so they won't post any Twilight related articles?

I'm a Twilight fan and (before you guys light up the torches) I know that all Twilight fans have their own websites to see this type of news. If many comments have requested to stop this Twilight related news ... please stop posting anything related.

So, I think I missed something. Is Kristen Stewart not in this one?
  • Unfortunately ... she is in. Most of the cast is in Vancouver already.
  • hannahh

  • theuglyspirit
    It's not this Push.

It's THIS Push.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Precious_(film), which was renamed or something.

Okay to start off Dakota Fanning is a great actress and all but i don't think that she should get the part of "angelicly evil" Jane. I'd rather prefer Jodelle Ferland. She's perfect for Jane. Jane is a sweet young looking creepy evil type girl...(technically she's not young in vampire years lol) and Jodelle has played great creepy roles. She has the face, the body structure, you can't say she can't play Jane because Jane is written all over her. I as well as my friends can see Jodelle bring out the Jane personality and it will make the movie great (well da book is perfect and the movie is awesome) so i hope they reconsider the casting of Jane and let Jodelle play it. She's perfect for it. No offense to Dakota but I don't think the part fully fits her. I mean she could do it and all but I think Jodelle Ferland will master it precisely.
  • Jane is a small part... I dont' think it will be any kind of 'break out' for Dakota to get into more adult roles (unless they give her more screen time in the movie than they did in the book) We see her again in all the other books but always for one or two scenes... tense-climatic scenes, but still only one or two. But I'm excited to see what she can do with it!
