prince of persia huff post

I’m not sure where these photos originated from, but The Huffington Post has two photos of Jake Gyllenhaal as Prince Dastan from Disney’s adaptation of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Mike Newell’s film, based on the popular video game, tells the story of an adventurous prince who teams up with a rival princess to stop an angry ruler from unleashing a sandstorm that could destroy the world. The photos don’t appear to be proper production photos, but instead images taken on the set (you can actually see crew members working behind Gyllenhaal if you look closely enough). Head on over to the Huff Post to see the photos in higher resolution. Prince of Persia: Sands of Time will hit theaters on May 28th 2010.

    im a fan of POP
but a fan of jake Gyllenhaal looking blazed with his shirt off....not so much
  • He looks like Kevin Sorbo from Hercules, hahaha.
  • Dvq
    looks dumb.
  • dannyboy
why hollywood dont find some that looks or feel Persia. im really pissed off with white actors tanning themselve playing different race. you will never hear a black person bleach themselve white to play another race or a asian person darker their skin to play a black person. but its alright for white actors to play asian, black, etc. even Angelina Jolie tanned her skin and change her hair to play a black/mixed race woman in the film "A Mighty Heart".
  • You know why you'll never hear of a black person bleaching themselves white to play another race? Bleaching is permanent. Tanning is temporary.

And why don't asians do it??? Are you kidding me? If an asian had darker skin, would you really think he was still anything but asian??? A tan white person at least can pass as something else.

    You're an idiot.
  • dannyboy
first of i aint an idiot you are an idiot for taking that bleaching and asian tanning themselve. i was just saying that cause it will be stupid for a person of another race to do that to play another race. and i found it stupid when a white actor tanning themselve to play another race. look at Tropic Thunder it has great point in the movie Robert Downey Jr. character Kirk Lazarus an Australian who had surgery to darken his skin to play an African American. yes that concept is funny as hell cause its an funny film but if that was real life you would think damn what an idiot.

    plus you're an idiot
  • Exactly!

If it had a slightly greater tan he could look Iranian. Iranians do look European and ARE Indo-European; some are more tanned than Europeans but some are paler with blond hair. They also have the ''caucasian'' skull type.

It is sad that this role will not be played by Iranians, but lets not kid ourselves into segregating closely related groups. If you wish to typify people into skull types or skin colours, atleast split it more correctly between caucasian (white), mongoloid (yellow) and congoid (black).

Also, I take issue with your use of ''race''. There is only one race and that is humans; the differences are really minor differences to the skulls between the different ''colours''; very MINOR. And Iranians can not be a different race from the Indo-Europeans in Europe because they (the Iranians) are, like the majority of Indian, merely Indo-Europeans in Asia; they share a common language and cultural group and they all developed around what is now Iran.
  • KingAngantyr
Please forgive any typos. I could spot one straight away; ''it'' instead of ''he''. My humble apology but my point still stands. Iranians are Indo-Europeans and are thus closely related to the Indo-Europeans in Europe and most of India.
  • Cause this is America man...thats just how things are, I mean its getting better with everything not getting white washed, but untill that day where a persian will actually be played by a persian or goku will actually be played by an actual asian (I know he is an "alien", but damn why is he a skinny ass white dude)...we get Jake Gyllenhaal as the Prince of Persia...
  • dannyboy
well im not from America but if thats how America is that just sad to be honest. yeah i agree not every film that has an story of asian or other ethinc culture been whitewash but its still happening. a film like 21 was shocking how they whitewashed that film, or even Forbidden Kingdom where it was promoted as Jet Li and Jackie Chan first film together and you thinking these two great martial artists going to fight each and focus about them but "NO" they are just another asian mentor to a white kid.

as a person from Britain when we do our films we do race swap a character that ment to be for that ethnic background. im starting to imagine if America did Slumdog Millionaire and cast Zac Efron to play Dev Patel character Jamal Malik the HORROR lol.
  • Anti-Septic
Funny how a person from Britain who supposedly is above all these racial issues and stereotypes, turned this into a racial issue!

Would I like the actor to be Persian, sure why not. Heres an idea, why doesnt a movie studio from Persia make there own movie casting there own actors and not leave this to Disney?

I think you see my point, when you are funding the movie, you can do whatever the hell you want, even if it does seem stupid.
  • dannyboy
the film studios make it an racial issue. anyway this is not about if Persia make they own movie and cast perisa actors. its about why dont American film studio dont cast persia actors or an middle eastern who live or even born in America for the role. Danny Boyle cast an indian british actor for the lead in an indian based film. why not cast an Middle Eastern American for the role of Prince of Persia.
  • I don't think he looks that good. If you can call Sorbo as Hercules 'good' :/ Can't say I'm a fan since I have not played one PoP game since the original but these photos do make it look like a TV movie of the week. He doesn't really look the part, does he?

I'm waiting for another photo to show 'Dead Frank' telling him the world is going to end in 28 days. Lol.
  • Wow. That is about the least Persian-looking Prince I've ever seen.
  • Yeah, Hollywood is retarded. I mean Will Smith as Captain Nemo? Jake Gyllenhaal as a Persian prince....FAIL
  • tom
That's the total opposite of badass..
  • Haha. Exactly my thoughts.
  • I don't see any way that this movie can be anything other than terrible.
  • Considering the general interest in this movie and the leaked material so far - you are probably right.
  • cjstearns
lol..i cant believe you posted these..you should of at least made fun of them
  • Man I laughed out loud when I saw this. Why is THE most American and THE least masculine man ever playing this role? WHY? WHHYY????
I mean, if you haven't laughed at this yet, just imagine him opening his mouth. He's got the meekest voice and there's NO WAY this will work.
  • I couldn't have said it any better myself. Masculinity is the last thing I think of when I hear "Jake Gyllenhaal".
  • .-.
    should have
  • Lauren
My god he is white. He's the pastiest white boy you've ever seen. The blinding glare of his whiteness is truly stupefying. Are we sure he's not part albino?
  • dagreenman18
Wow, and i thought Tobey McGuire as Spiderman was a horrible miscast.
  • Brad
His whiteness has nothing on my whiteness. Nothing.
  • Palmer
    Oh god my eyes burn!
  • ... Nope. Ain't gonna happen Jake. Sorry buddy.

There isn't one single actor from that side of the world who could do this? ugh. This is a giant facepalm.
  • I was hoping for a good movie when slash film started talking about a POP movie, but i had my doubts. These photos don't help to relieve any of those doubts.
  • I dont ever remember seeing the Price with his short off..
  • wow that looks dumb
  • Spider-Man was, at least, supposed to be white.
  • PKG
    The spelling's Gandhi. Idiot!

(sorry, this is the only link I can find at a remaining time of 17:02. About halve way through the first bar.)

And this is my general feeling about Jake Gyllenhaal.
  • dlb

  • bb6640
ROTFL!! Oh mjy god that is just... wow!
  • whoever released the photos is an imbecile.

wish we were seeing God of War set photos, and not this garbage.
  • Is it just me or does he look like Aaron Rogers from the Green Bay Packers?
  • /filmluvsjakey
in confessions of a shopoholic (you can -1 me just for seeing it. not my fault), there is a shot of Isla's character walking down the street, and the camera stops and there's a massive prince of persia/gyllenhaal poster. the camera practically freezes on it for a whole second. no surprise they're both jerry bruckheimer productions. i was shocked to see it seeing how we've had nothing released about it. /film should get a screen shot.
  • I've seen the shot of the poster it's nothing really too impressive I'd rather they had released a high-rez version online...they're spending a lot time on post production on this one considering it's release date....since all the live action was finished in December you'd think they could manage a teaser trailer..I'm getting the feeling they're going to be relying too much on CGI
  • Oh, Jake. You're so much better than this. You don't need to resort to Disney to find work :(
  • don't forget he's starred in such gems as Bubble Boy....it could be a lot worse
