VOTD: Saturday Morning Watchmen

saturday morning watchmen
Watchmen was thought to be an unfilmable graphic novel. What if Warner Bros didn’t get the movie off the ground, and Fox instead turned the comic book property into a Saturday Morning Cartoon Show? Harry Partridge (HappyHarry) has taken that idea and run with it. Watch Saturday Morning Watchmen after the jump.

  • thx for posting this Peter, i personally got a big kick out of it. The Rorschach animal loving part fits in perfectly with the pic from the photoshop contest.
  • That's the best video I've seen in quite some time. I hope it doesn't stick with me when I'm actually watching Watchmen over the weekend.
  • Infrafan
Love it. I can see Adrien Veidt approving this.
  • This reminds me of that Simpsons episode Alan Moore had a guest spot on. He was signing a dvd of "Watchmen Babies: V for Vacation" For Millhouse
  • That was fantastic. I'm kinda disappointed I wont be able to watch it Saturday morning while eating my cereal, hahaha.
  • Count the references: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Scooby Doo, Inspector Gadget, Jem, Captain Planet, Turbo Teen, Cartoon All-Stars, Josie and The Pussycats...

    It's so...Hanna-Barbera.
  • Jack
    You missed Batman.
  • Who watches
Thundercats. Uzbestis (the cat. I can't spell) is Snarf.
  • I know Harry from Newgrounds. He's a funny dude.

Ahhhh, those long gone days of getting up at the ass-crack of dawn on Saturdays to watch cartoons....now it's an event if I get out of bed before noon...
  • Man this was funny. Fox is totally the company that would exploit something like this, i'm glad they didn't get their grubby little paws all over Watchmen.
  • Man this was funny. Fox is totally the company that would do something like this, i'm glad they didn't get their grubby little paws all over Watchmen.
  • The best part of this may be the line "Fighting thugs, say no to drugs, be in bed by ten!" It's so 80s and it's hilarious.
  • this is great i would love to see that show... :D
  • lol. Do you receive many thumbs down?
  • I laughed out loud at the Rorschach, friend of the animals bit.
  • lol that was great! very funny! cant wait to actually see the movie today! so excited!
  • lol yeah, thats what we would have gotten on the big screen today if Fox would have actually made the flick
  • wiched99
And remember kids. Rorschach says......say no to drugs, or he will hunt u down and murder you in your sleep. And thing about Dr, Matt giving people cancer. Does that theme song remind you the Team America one......
  • how do you know he has a sense of humor? I've yet to see it... (besides in his comics, i guess)
  • Django
Because he played himself on the Simpsons, during a convention Millhouse asked him to sign his copy of the WATCHMEN BABIES cartoon.

Youtube it - it's hilarious and in interviews Alan spoke highly of his regard for the Simpsons.
  • Wow, that was better than the film.

    *ducks*
  • I hope Alan Moore never sets sight on this.......i think he might implode.
  • Slayeric
Nah, he may be against his comics being turned into movies, but that doesn't mean he has no sense of humor. :P
  • Seriously, innocent children will die if Alan Moore sees this. XD
  • Zamir
he was on the simpsons last season and made fun of himself and even watchmen

  • Big Mike
My eyes are watering I laughed so hard. I loved the part with "Ozy" grabbing the Comedian.
  • Effing brilliant. Rorschach: "I'm Nutty!" :p
  • I would give anything for this to be a real tv show.
  • Well, it looks better than the X-Men cartoon I remember seeing a few years back.
  • starscream9289
    "Strong together. United forever!"
  • thanyoufor

  • Esahn
Man, This would be an awesome show.
  • Fir3Wolf
Horrible lol, but if that did air back in the 80's I probably would have watched it.
  • Goobity
"Jon will give you give you cancer, and can turn into a car"

    Genius.
  • KEL
WOW! That was brilliant! The art style looks VERY eighties, that's a lot like how toons were done during that period. That's just awesome. :-D
  • And remember kids, even though Dr. Manhattan walks nude, you can not follow suit.

    Now we know!!

    *GI JOE!!!*
  • Goobity
So...the Eighties is a "that period" now? Well shit. :)

This was done in "that period" too, you know:

Granted, most of the toons in the 80's produced in the States were crap. Don't tell Michael Bay.
  • Hilarious
  • KEL
WOW! Well the animation for that vid you posted was excellent.

I was just saying that whoever did the Watchmen toon clearly designed it to evoke the art styles common in most main stream 80s toons. Pre Batman: TAS, the show that changed everything and how people looked at animation. Everything before that had been trying to do too much detail in cartoons and make them still work - too many folds in the clothing, wrinkles, trying to get everything very photo like, which works agains the strengths of animation.

    LOL@ the Bay comment. :-D
