Watchmen: Dr. Manhattan Brought To Life in London

dr manhattan water
To celebrate the UK release of Watchmen, Paramount Pictures (the international distributor) brought Dr Manhattan to life on London’s River Thames, rising above the murky depths to a height of over 70 feet. According to the press release, the spectacle was created using the world’s biggest water screen projector.

The water screen, moored especially for this occasion in the middle of the Thames between the London Eye and The Shell Building, created an enormous vertical screen of water that extended to 72 feet in height and 100 feet across. Specially created, never to be seen again Watchmen footage, was projected onto the screen to showcase Dr Manhattan’s translucent and shimmering form in dramatic and gigantic effect -an excellent and exciting medium to see Dr Manhattan in all his super human glory as he hovered over the city in true Watchmen style!

/Film reader Adam A sent over two quick videos of Manhattan on London’s River Thames, which you can watch after the jump.

I really like that first pic.
  • Bollocks!
  • Craig Howlett-Wright
Wow. I wish I was there. Although, why didn't Jon Osterman move or do anything? I don't think that constitutes being "Brought To Life" do you? Still pretty amazing though.
  • I was there, we weren't impressed. The videos make it look really cool but we were told there would be exclusive footage, which there wasn't. It was just the trailer over and over again. 3 hours of waiting around for that.

I've written a whole review of the event with some more photos (which came out really well and sort of made the whole thing worth it) on my blog. www.HeyUGuys.co.uk
  • The description sounds a lot cooler then it looks in the video. Still woulda been interesting to see.
  • filmkid
he should be called a different name now Dr London
  • I thought he used that name because of the Manhattan Project?! o_o
  • Did they show his ropes and knots!?
  • Marc
  • Alan Moore can't ignore it anymore. =D
  • How come I never manage to find out about things like this? Plz, let me into this special club.
  • Sorry James, it's invitation only. :)
  • It's no Fantasia, in the video's, you can't see a thing. Although I like the smiley face on the building.
  • agreed. it is still pretty cool though.
  • The Blue Man Group are happy, they finally found their lost brother...too bad that they couldn't reach him while he floated naked in London....hmph.
  • That's pretty sweet.
  • Leave it to the BRITS, they know the meaning of DIEHARD!!!!
This is great, well, pretty cool. Still suffering from Zombie's giving Myers a beard. UGH. Isn;t there someone there to keep check son people to mak sure they don;t destroy beautiful things?
  • wow, awesome... nothing else to say
  • It's always nice to see motion picture promotion going above and beyond, especially when it suits the original material. Too bad the event itself didn't live up to the hype.
  • reel thinker???????
  • Yea. But he was joking with a play on words because they're doing all kinds of cool viral marketing over in London but nothing in NYC.
  • It would have been nice to see it in person (for me, being 300miles away is a hindrance...), and it's also nice to see Paramount Pictures doing as much marketing as possible in this country.
  • Nice!
  • Pretty cool, although that would have been a perfect opportunity for some over-the-top visual effects. Something like Dr. Manhattan reaching up and spinning the London Eye with explosions and finally the Eye turning into a spinning gigantic version of the bloody button.
  • To anyone that went. Could you pick out more details in real life? [polldaddy 1428452 http://answers.polldaddy.com/poll/1428452/ polldaddy]
  • Could you pick out more details if you saw it in real life? It just kind of looks like a shilouette like thing to me.

A quick aside, youtube videos and polls in comments are awesome.
  • Wren N. Gimpy
It's odd. They're not marketing this movie or the book worth a crap in America. No one there's heard of it. Dr. London would have been better, obviously, and more appropriate. What does Dr. Manhattan mean anyway? What is it supposed to be?
  • A witch I tell you! that would of been really cool to have a water projector back in the 18th. century. I would rule the world.. "wait for it" Diabolical Laugh!
  • I'm calling witch here too. Things don't just float over the water and glow blue. No they do not.
