Star Trek: 60 New High Resolution Photos

Star Trek

The new Star Trek movie trailer features a ton of new footage, and much of it goes by in quick cuts. As we’ve done with some of the big movie trailers in the past, I have captured 60 high resolution (actually, 1080p high definition) images, which you can flip through at your leisure after the jump.

  • Hope the rest of the film is more interesting than these pics

I'm not a Star Trek fan, but what I'm seeing is a bunch of great sfx shots, evidence of some character development and a pretty authentic recreation of the Trek universe. Again, I'm no expert, but what "more" do you hope for/expect from an image set?
  • sweeeeeeeet. karl urban is a frakking revelation! and this trailer is immense :D
  • Gotta be honest, I never liked Star Trek. I hate J.J. Abrams and I think this movie doesn't look THAT good. Yeah, I'll watch it, but I think it's going to be one of the lesser quality movies of the year... It just seems like it's going to be like Captain Kirk "earning his wings" and doing his father proud then and a bunch of explosions. Totally cliche.

    So then why watch it?
  • is it me or are they really playing on the ancient civilizations for this.

    i.e.:

Romulans are the Romans. (watch the last TNG movie to see how i came to this point)
Vulcan are the Athenians (non violence, use of intellect etc.)
Kilgons are Spartans (society breed for war)

the reason i'm saying this that with the whole romulans = romans is kinda futher struck on the head by calling the lead villain Nero, the name of a roman emperor.
  • These type of stories are nothing new. Consider Ullyses in the Illiad. There have been stories of fabled heroes and villains for "Generations" (wacha-wacha), for thousands of years. Man's telling stories is an integral part of his existence. The classic story of the hero against evil, against his very life.
  • Ako
There was a episode with the romulans where a character was named Decius after Shakespere's Caesar
  • Looks wonderful, the photos make me think of Heinlein's novel "This Moon is a Harsh Mistress."
  • I have never been a trekkie but am looking forward to this movie. The screenshots look great, teaser very teasing. Looks like a fun movie, looking forward to see what Abrams came up with, he can be hit or miss.
  • seth gardner
JJ Abrams can certainly miss. Have you seen Cloverfield? If so then unfortunately enough is said. I do hope as a die hard fan this movie is a big hit and not a big flop.
  • rick
is that kirks father with the explosions behind him?
  • Lencho
    Looks like him to me.
  • What?? There's explosions in Iowa??
  • JJ Abrams must have played too much Mass Effect before he decided to make this film. Meaning: It's full of Lens flare. Anyway it looks great.
  • Amazing.
  • Sue
This movie is going to be awsome. Please, we need more pictures of Dr. McCoy. OMG is he a "hot flash"
  • You might want to read the Wiki article about Romulus and Remus.

I am no Trekkie/Trekker by any means but your observation is probably correct. However, I always considered it to be more like the Vulcans are the Japanese and the Klingons are Russians. Seemed like the Klingon history in TNG matched a lot of what was happening in Russia at the time.
