Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Trailer #2

harry potter and the half-blood prince trailer

Warner Bros has released the second full trailer for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. If you thought the next Potter film would be all colorful and cheery, think again. The trailer goes out of it’s way to paint a darker picture, showing a much more dramatic story. Watch the trailer after the jump and leave your comments (video comments?) after the jump.

Voldemort is tightening his grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was. Harry suspects that dangers may even lie within the castle, but Dumbledore is more intent upon preparing him for the final battle that he knows is fast approaching. Together they work to find the key to unlock Voldemort’s defenses and, to this end, Dumbledore recruits his old friend and colleague, the well-connected and unsuspecting bon vivant Professor Horace Slughorn, whom he believes holds crucial information. Meanwhile, the students are under attack from a very different adversary as teenage hormones rage across the ramparts. Harry finds himself more and more drawn to Ginny, but so is Dean Thomas. And Lavender Brown has decided that Ron is the one for her, only she hadn’t counted on Romilda Vane’s chocolates! And then there’s Hermione, simmering with jealously but determined not to show her feelings. As romance blossoms, one student remains aloof. He is determined to make his mark, albeit a dark one. Love is in the air, but tragedy lies ahead and Hogwarts may never be the same again.

  • Mr B
Excellent. I am amazed at the lasting power of the film series.
  • Looks pretty dark and crazy, I'm down for that.
  • holly
wow looks dark .i love it.i like inferius and harry ,bellatrix ,little tom scenes.
  • Dylan
Has the potential to be the best of all the Harry Potter films that have been released.
  • Mad_Dog87
Looks pretty slick, I am a fan of the series but for some reason I never look forward to the movies until the movies are actually released, but this trailer has gotten me excited right now.
  • Dan Berry
I'm pretty sure that this was my favorite Potter book.
It's come from that stupid first book to a pretty brutal narrative. The series ages perfectly, and I can't wait to see the movies do the same.
  • mike
Wow. I seriously cannot wait for this i was so upset with it being postponed and also disappointed with the last one OOTP but this one looks amazing the cinematography for this one is unbelievable.
  • This trailer is pretty much a win imo.
  • but its still rated PG
  • My God, the visuals for this movie look amazing. I think everyone should be excited for it, potter fan or not.
  • Daniel
I am continually impressed with how the series has managed to chronologically mature. It started out with Chris Freaking Columbus providing two films that weren't all that different than anything else he'd done. Now I'd argue that the tone and quality of the recent films are up to par with Lord of the Rings.
  • Is it just me or the look of the film while in the memory liquid (can't remember the name) seems more stylized now than in previous trailers? Anyways awesome trailer. Hope that they tool the extra time for making this movie even better.
  • great trailer, really looking forward to this film
  • brilliant.
  • Charles
Still not seeing it. I hate Harry Potter.
  • Jen
    okay.
why would you even share this? did you not notice when you clicked the link that it has HARRY POTTER in big black letters? if you don't like harry potter, don't click the link and for gods sake don't COMMENT.
that being said, the trailer looks awesome. :)
  • Yes! A thousand times, yes! It looks like they captured the essence of the book perfectly. What's so fascinating about HBP is learning about Voldemort's past. His back story is incredibly compelling as well as tragic. And I absolutely LOVE how they're portraying it in the film so far. Also, Harry really starts to take a more offensive approach to Voldemort instead of defensive as he did in the last books.
    They've got it down pat.
The Inferi at the beginning are terrific, too. That was one of the main things I wanted to see if they could pull off. So creepy... so perfect.

Not really impressed by this trailer. Maybe because I expected more when I read "full trailer." Feels like another grandiose teaser. This would've been an amazing first preview, but after both the domestic and international teasers/trailers we've seen, I'm just not jazzed by this one. Also, I need to see this one in a higher quality. Can hardly tell what's going on all of those dark images.
  • The visuals look great, however, I am not a huge fan of the last few books.
  • The last three books where pretty awful (I couldn't even finish the second half of the last one), I've become much more a fan of the films.
  • ....

    sweet zombie jesus.
  • filmkid
this is very dark shocking that its a PG
  • HobbitFTW
Every god damn Harry Potter movie is promoted as being "darker" ever since the third one. Sure it was cool for the third one to do it, but they haven't really got "darker" since then, to me they've remained at about the same level of "darkness" and it all just looks like a bunch of wheel spinning to me.
  • Well if you haven't read the books, then get ready. Because these last two are legitimately darker.
  • gastrotect
If they are done right. Which by the trailer seems to be the case...but the rating wouldn't indicate the same. I was really hoping to see things like the Sectumsempra curse, but how is that possible with a PG rating? Maybe it will become PG-13 by the time it's released...
  • HobbitFTW :)
With that said, the special effects look genius and it certainly looks better than the last relatively dull film.
  • Jham
It's going to be PG so don't cream your pants yet.
  • Jham
Too bad the MPAA rating isn't
  • Mike
I might be wrong, but it looks like we get a first look at Fenrir Greyback with 26 seconds left on the trailer.

I might be wrong. It might not be Greyback, and it might not be a first look, but it's the first I've seen of him in the trailers, and he looks badass.
  • could be
  • looks like it should easily be the best film in the series... the more i re-read 6 the more i find how well the story adapts to screen, which should definitely be a plus, not to mention the manageable length, unlike the previous 2 which had to be so cut and edited down it made them terrible... shame wb didnt let them shoot a true full length film for 4 & 5 and release it for dvd... sigh

  • Why the hell would they go from a PG-13 in Order of the Phoenix to a PG for this one? Doesn't make any sense. Unless they're trying to squeeze even more money out of the younger children, some who couldn't even read when the books first came out.

As long as it's compelling I don't care, but a PG? Really? COME ON!
  • Agreed. It's a pretty dumb move, especially since this subject matter for this film is much darker and "scarier"
  • yeah, it very well could be. and ditto, if that's him, he looks extremely BA.
  • freemachine
I'm a sucker for these Harry Potter films, though the last one wasn't as good as the rest. Still, I'll be standing in line for this one.
  • i know! The Order of the Phoenix was my favorite book, and they completely mucked it up. For shame...
  • theuglyspirit
Wow that was quite a trailer.
  • The pensieve!
  • That's one of the things that I am most excite for as well; that the length is shorter than the previous two so it will adapt more easily.
  • One of the main reasons why the sixth book is one of the best, to me, is because the fifth book was the worst in the whole series (again, to me) and so to have it bump back up to an excellent level after that was extra-awesome. I'm really hoping the same will be true of this movie. From the looks of it, I will be correct. I think this trailer has been done to a much more adult level. It seems to be less cutesy and childish as some of the previous films' trailers were. I'm very excited by it.
  • It looks a lot like Ralph Finnes to me, though I don't remember Voldemort ever casting spells from the middle of a field...
  • Josh
Is the MPAA really this corrupt or is it going to be PG-13? Because I am shocked at how good this looks. They are smart to release it in front of Watchmen. Also this is basically the same as the teaser trailer released in front of Dave's favorite film of 2008.
  • who is this 'Dave' character you speak of?
  • Dave Chen. The man who loved Mummy III and hated The Dark Knight.
  • The last three books where pretty awful, I've become much more a fan of the films.
  • Yeah, the liquid memory effects look really nice. They are both fantastical and creepy at the same time. I haven't been wowed by the Potter film since the third film, but this one has me excited again.
  • yea, i still don't get the rating. either the MPAA has gone soft or they cut some stuff to this movie.
  • this trailer is one gigantic epic win. my only problem was the lack of the epic "hedwig's theme" from the teaser. that was great music.
  • GORT
Thanks warner bros for rubbing it in to the fans after delaying the release date. They expect fans to support this movie after rubbing salt in the wounds by releasing new trailers?
