McG Wants Robert Patrick for Terminator 5

t2 robert patrick

It seems to me that all the excitement over both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton’s potential involvement in Terminator Salvation has gotten McG a little cameo crazy. The director tells FearNet that he has an idea to cast Robert Patrick, who played the T-1000 in Terminator 2: Judgment Day, in the potential sequel to Terminator Salvation.

“I like the idea in a prospective next picture that you meet Robert Patrick the way he looks today, and he’s a scientist that’s working on improving cell replication so we can stay healthier and we can cure juvenile diabetes and all these things that once again sound like good ideas — and once again live as an idealized expression of ourselves. So imagine seeing a sixty-year-old Robert Patrick and knowing, ‘Holy shit! That’s gonna be the T-1000 – who comes back perfect, lean and the whole thing.’ I haven’t concluded that, but Robert and I had dinner the other night and talked about it.”

This would be cool is the T-1000 actually looked like Robert Patrick by default, but anyone who has seen T2 knows that the T-1000 is a more advanced terminator, composed entirely of a mimetic metal alloy, rendering it capable of rapid shapeshifting and near-perfect mimicry. In the beginning of the filme, t he T-1000 ambushes a police officer and takes on his identity. So if I’m correct, the T-1000 does not look like Robert Patrick by default, and thus, McG’s cameo theory just wouldn’t make any sense.

Update: Apparently the T-1000 appears as Robert Patrick before he attacks the police officer, so I’m completely wrong. I’ve just always assumed that the T-1000 wouldn’t have a default human mode, because, what would the point be? The T-1000 can change into anything or anyone, and having a standard look would make him more vulnerable in the war between the humans and machines. On the other hand it would be cool if we eventually seen the moment when the T-1000 is sent back to kill John Conner. Instead of having the T-1000 modeled after the scientist, I would love to see the T-1000 kill the scientist and mimic his look before taking the trip.

  • I just have two things to say: Hell, and YES!
  • THAT WOULD BE SOOOO GREAT !!!!!!!!!
    T-1000 FTW !!!!!
  • jared bratt
the T-1000 doesnt take the cop's physical identity or appearance,
i think he just takes his clother and vehichle.
  • Peter--correct me if I'm wrong--but doesn't the T-1000 show up in the time-traveling bubble already looking like Robert Patrick?
But I clearly remember seeing a naked Robert Patrick at the beginning of the film?
  • Andre7
I'm not 100% sure how it would work, with Patrick being the model for the T-1000, but I'd be excited to see it happen. T-1000 was always a great villain.

By the way, at the start of T2, the T-1000 was Robert Patrick, even before he attacked the cop. So it would make sense that RP's face is the default for T-1000.
  • Peter--correct me if I'm wrong--but doesn't the T-1000 show up in the time-traveling bubble already looking like Robert Patrick?
Because I clearly remember seeing a naked Robert Patrick at the beginning of the film?
  • twilightsection
Your 100% correct Dr_Acula He does appear as Robert Patrick.
  • bingo
  • yeah, but he appeared as Robert Patrick, the CYBORG, looking lean, young and good..
  • Anrkist
Maybe it's just the last person he took the identity of in the future.

It's not a difficult idea to come up with.
  • wintermuted
Yes. He appears as Patrick before attacking the lone officer & taking his uniform & sidearm.
  • VFX
The T-1000 does look like R.Patrick by default, he is seen like that before killing the cop, he just takes his clothes
  • jlomesou
The T-1000 doesn't have to steal clothes, he only took the gun. He can create clothes on his body, just like when he created himself to look like the guard in the hospital that Sarah was locked up at.
  • Cat
That would be cool if he came back! Can we say spoiler?
  • REAL6
I know, im so excited. I heard about this this morning but even bigger news then Robert Patrick is Michael Biehn!!!!!!!!

This was on MTV today or yesterday:

McG did make news by offering what amounted to a non-denial confirmation that Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger will be contributing to the movie, though in what capacities McG declined to state. Later at a roundtable for media, he said he’s also been in touch with Robert Patrick (who played the liquid metal T-1000) and Michael Biehn (who played Kyle Reese in the original film).
  • BamaJuice
    Awesomeness in a bottle
  • but I thought Terminator Salvation was already shot and edited, ready for the May release? I'm so confused...
  • REAL6
YEah it has but it can be reworked fast. But he's talking about for Terminator 5. I would love to see Robert as a scientist and see how the T-1000 takes his likeness. Then you could have when Kyle Resse grows up into Michael Biehn. Biehn is still in shape for almost 60. Just do how they did X-men 3 on Patrick Stewert and take 20 year's off of Biehns lookto see where he was sent back to Terminator 1 and thats how you tie the 6 movies together...
  • Zinc
He does have a default human setting as Robert Patrick. It's never really discussed why, it's just one of those "just because" things.
  • demione
T1000 had a human default setting because James Cameron didn't want to immediately reveal that it had liquid metal capabilities. He instead revealed it during the big action scene in the mall.
  • skippy
i think Zinc is specifically referring to the origin of the T-100's human form never discussed within the film, not the filmmakers' decisions
  • REAL6
Then this is how if people didnt know they got Arnold's likeness for T-800:

  • Now that's a cool idea! I can't wait.
  • Great news! Love the idea of bringing up past characters, it just puts the pieces together...
  • Decade
Terrible idea. No more Terminator films please, the whole franchise has been watered down to its most dilute form. Get James Cameron back, then I'll be interested.
  • BamaJuice
    Awesome sauce!
  • So no T-1000 in T4: Salvation? That's a shame. If you're going to shoot another sequel, and you want to feature past terminators and cameo a past star, this would be the way to go (especially seeing as Arnold and Linda can sorta see the class isn't there without Cameron).
  • Django
This is why McG should not be writing his own movies. That idea is pretty preposterous .. The basic idea of having him as a scientist, not so bad, but having the T1000 actually BEING the "perfected" scientist is pure bull.

Have him as a scientist who does the typical Sci Fi thing, and designs his creation after an ideal version of himself.

But why a scientist would want to go back in time and kill some stupid grunge kid in the '90s. Please, McG - just hire some writers and do your business end of directing shenannigans ...

hiring A-List actors, getting rights to hip bands songs, and hiring guys to make kick ass trailers for you.

I just think McG should shut his mouth and let his movie speak for itself.
  • dude, wait until this movie comes out first. jeez, the grind never stops in hollywood.
  • JPDyno
I think its a great idea. Im just hoping if they are going to do cameos like this, that it gets tied into the story nicely, not just some stuck-on paragraph.

I always thought it was strange that at the start of T2 the T-1000 kills a police officer, then morphs police-clothes onto his default human form, and then the rest of the movie copies all his other victims full looks. But what do i know, I didnt design him. lol
  • dang. we're already talking t5, and t4 isn't even here yet.

all the people who got sick of the Watchmen talk better buckle in, i see a bumpy ride ahead.
  • cjstearns
the point would be so he doesnt look like some gooey metal dood walking around out of a human disguise

Here's the deal on the T-1000 Peter,,,,

The T-1000's canon was best described in the post T2, Dark Horse Terminator comic series, based on information from the T2 film paperback adapted screenplay novel.

    Here's the specs:
The T-1000, was a prototype. Only 2 versions were produced by Skynet. This occurred when its T-800 model failed to perform its mission to kill Sarah Connor.
The memetic-poly-alloy was developed so that the T-1000 would have superior infiltration tactics so it could adapt and improvise.

    Origins:
During a recon patrol (in the future war) that went bad, a human resistance fighter (that looked like Robert Patrick) was taken captive and brought back to Skynet. He was drugged and coerced into giving up Connors location. After providing the information the T-1000's spiked his body (killing him) and took on his identity. Mainly to kill young Connor in the past. The other model was used to re-enter the human resistance in the present and gather intel.

The T-1000 that was sent to gather resistance intel aborted its mission as Skynet was already shutdown when it arrived. It used its infiltration skills to re-enter the disabled Skynet command center and download a backup program to restart the system.
The last scene of the comics was the Robert Patrick T-1000 walking away from the human celebration towards an off-site Skynet data location to restart the system.

The end ??? I guess if you like the MCG version, who knows?
  • I wouldn't mind seeing a cameo from Robert Patrick. His character is a big part of the Terminator franchise, not as big as the others, but he's up there.
  • martinec
    John Connor, not Conner. Please...
  • Whenever I see a picture of Robert Patrick smiling, I always get weirded out. It just doesn't seem right if he doesn't have that cold, penetrating stare. As cool as it would be to have him in one of the films, I think the T-1000 would have to be appropriate to the story. I'd rather him be essential and badass instead of being expendable and badass. Plus, it's not like they could make him a throw-away character, either; he's almost impossible to destroy. Liquid metal!

    terminor rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • a fan
Anything you send back in time must be covered in living tissue, but we never got a good explanation of how the t-1000 lost its skin.
  • mike
T4 - it's like McG have never seen previous Terminator movies... a lots of mistakes and that stupid idea of half human half terminator who almost falls in love by the end of the movie? c'mon! and why the hell SkyNET doesnt kill Kyle Reese when theres great opportunity to do that.... that's bullshhhh, and i'm confused.
  • jessica
I think that the terminator judgment day t 1000 comic book should be the basses for an idea for T5 it's the best idea so far and Robert Patrick always looked like himself in T2 he just took the cops clothes gun and car I think Linda Hamilton or Arnold should give mcg a chance before judging his past work so he has trouble with his idea's everyone does at first but look how great Terminator salvation turned out. can't wait for T5 and T6.:)
  • SO....Salvation, i think there were too many references to the previous movies. They were nice to hear but too much. The next movie, SHOULD...BE...ABOUT...THE...WAR!!!! You know how war movies are! Massive violence and killing going on. Film the war like it was shown as peaks into the future. I like the idea of T5, but idk if it would be amazing, i am a huge Terminator fan...so hardcore. i just dont want to see the franchise be run into the ground. But we all have to have an open mind
  • Brett Anderson
It would be cool for john to meet robert before he make the t-1000 and almost kills him... then Robert must make a t-1000 and the t-1000 takes his identity and kills him... And a correction to what u said. T-1000 default is not the cop at all the cop was not robort p. neither is robert the default is remember after the truck blow up when t-800 blew up the wheel and then an electrical fire.. well the t-1000 comes out of the fire silver but does not right away have the same detail as robert instead he silver and look pain. You also see this when turns from johns step mom to robert p. Like what the t-800 said in the second the original is terminated so after that sees john again but this time john leaves his guard down then the t-1000 tries to stab him instead one of his soldiers or his wife steps in front of it... and 2011 thing sound stupid to me.. guess we will have to see
  • jimmy
robert Patrick was also good in a film called "the marine" 20 years from terminator. superb.
  • T
If you remember only organic tissue can go through the time machine thats why everyone comes out naked from the time machine.

Th T1000 had to turn into organic tissue and that organic tissue had to look like someone to fit in for his hunt. Going back to the past as just a blob of flesh would have looked slightly odd to people I would think. Robert Patrick may have been handy though some grand opponent of Skynet would be awesome. A scientist? I think Skynet can invent it's own stuff a bit better than humans.
  • Isaiah Perez
mcg dont be stupid i been a fan of the terminator movies since i was 5 and now i am 18 and if your good at the terminator store like james cameron was terminator 5 would be reese going back through time because the t-1000 was after him. if you show robert now you fuck up a good story for future terminator fans to come. show him in terminator 6.
  • midn8t
I hope they do not do anthere back in time thing, best part of terminator 4 was fact that it was future, SCi FI, Terminator 2 and Termiantor 3 you got to see bit and pices of the war torn future and in Salvation you got to see bit more what is all going on, if anything lets have them destory the time traveling machine so they cant do that crape any more its old pathic, and just not intrested in that way over done.
  • donnydutchmen
i agree. but i have a lot of cool things in my mind that can make the terminator story and action even more scaryer!

i came up with a terminator that can even imitate other terminators. its not made from liquid metal this time, but nano bots! capable of standing and creating extreme tempatures by touching things. these nanobots can even reproduce themselves. by that way they can create and control multible things in the surounding area. it even has the abillety to work as a magnet, so it can atract things without reaching out for it. and create a energie field that is so powerful that other machines wil not function (like kitts micro jam). and i want robert patrick to battle against it as the t-1000. i want him to be the good guy this time. and i also have a vision of how the T-1000 is created and how skynet was posible to program it.
sorry if my english is bad?? i am from holland.
  • Bryan
Sooo... McG screwed up on Terminator Salvation. So now he is going to tuck his tail in between his legs and revert back to what we have already seen in the first 3 films? No-More-Time-Travel..... We've seen it already. Show us the war.
  • Simz
i agree with bryan. SHOW US THE MUTHA FUCKIN' WAR WE TERMINATOR FANS HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR SINCE PART 1!!!!!!!! its the whole point!!
  • myusernameistaken
i want to see a new trilogy! pull a star wars. in T5 they should just start preparing and creating the time machine and stuff like that, maybe have it end with Kyle Reese going back in time. or they could send Kyle back in time in T6. either way, i want the end if T6 to be the death of John Conner (T3 mentions that he is killed by the T-800 in T3).
