The Science of Watchmen

science of watchmen

University of Minnesota physics professor and The Physics of Superheroes author Jim Kakalios was the science consultant on Watchmen. The University of Minnesota has released a 7-minute video, which you can watch after the jump, with Kakalios talking about the science behind the book and film.

physics professors are always so cookey and akward, gotta love em.
  • yeah. "fuck real research, COMICS motha fucka"
  • yeah. "fuck real research! i'm gonna study COMICS motha fucka"
  • Very interesting...I'd like to see this guy tackle other movies like Star Wars
  • this stuff is pretty friggin cool. One more week!!!!!!!!

Got midnight show tickets. All set. Ready for some serious Watchmen action. Kick ass.
  • all of his equipment looks ancient.
  • I have his book, the physics of superheroes, definitely worth a read for physics and comic book geeks. It starts of simple and gets more and more complex, cool to read.
  • I'd have to rewatch it multiple times to get a grip on what he said but it's definitely worth a watch for people who can't wait a week. Lots of clips included from the movie.

    Nerdvana.
  • An observation I have made:

Dr. Manhattan's penis is sort of like the Cloverfield monster. We won't get to see it, except for that one shot of Lower Manhattan we did see, until the movie comes out.
  • Interesting, never thought I'd be reading about the science of Watchmen and whether or not there could actually be a Doc Manhattan out there! Mind, the video lost me at defracting some, body, medical, thingy-something...
  • I know Dr. Kakalios, he's a good guy. I don't see anything wrong or stupid about looking at the physics of superheroes; it's not as if he isn't intelligent, rather, by applying physics to something like comics and superheroes, he is helping to introduce the field of phyiscs to those who might otherwise be disinterested.
  • this guy is like bill nye but for college students!
  • Hey that's pretty interestin- zzzzZZzzzzZzz.
  • is it just me? but this dude has a very slight peter sciretta look. but this is pretty cool... i like the explanations, and it is quite interesting.
  • Who is he talking to off screen?
  • Haha...strangely I was just thinking that...
  • Benny
will they ever make a movie of Alan Moore's science hero Tom Strong and also Terra Obscura?? That would be a blast!
