Ghostbusters 3 To Begin Shooting Fall 2009?

ghostbusters

Last we heard, Office scribes Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitski were hard at work trying to pen a new Ghostbusters movie. We haven’t really heard much about the project since last year when those details were revealed, and we just assumed that they couldn’t make the script work.

Well it appears that the project is still moving forward and according to Dan Aykroyd, who appeared in Boston this weekend for the opening of a new House of Blues, they “hope to be in production by late fall 2009″. That;s an exact quote from the Boston Globe (via: AICN). I’m not sure if “Hope” means that they are onto something or if that was just the targeted date when Gene and Lee began scripting, but I’m sure you guys are going to have something to say about this in the comments.

  • I agree with Seth Rogen who thinks Ghostbusters 3 is a terrible Idea. And would only work if there was one mutherfucking good script.
  • Well Zak and Miri was a terrible idea and did not have a motherfucking good script.
  • B33
You have poor sense of perception and taste.
  • B33
You have a poor sense of perception and taste.
  • I was trying to be clever. I have to try you see.
  • B33
    That was "trying"?
  • I am pretty dumb. That was a real zinger for me.
  • Zack and Miri wasn't that horrible.
  • Rob
how is a terrible idea you fuckin prick??? The film is one of the most popular of all times! It would be massive your obviously a complete cock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I get your point, but I don't think anything works as too well without a good script.
  • As long as it is not another viral-commercial for a french car company, the movie might rock :)
  • Yeah I can't believe someone went through alot of trouble for a car commercial. The commercial itself had a viral video promoting interest in it.
  • I disagree... this movie will greatly appeal to Generation X and Generation Y, those who were born in the early 80s and remember Ghostbusters. It's gonna be a hit, whether the script is good or bad.
  • REAL6
Just as long as it doesnt have anyone stupid from 'Generation Emo' like Rogan or any of those guys who are not funny at all!!!
  • Deathmetalhero
'Generation emo' is the fucking stupidest thing I have ever heard. holy shit I think my mind just exploded........
  • REAL6
I dont know whats more stupid Hearing the word 'fanboy' or living in Generation Emo with everyone bitching about something...
  • Konrad
    Pot. Kettle. Whine.

(And that is not directed at Deathmetal)
  • man. you're bitching about people bitching.

it DOES NOT get any worse than that.
  • REAL6
See there is a difference between bitching about a movie style and bitching about someone bitching. Im bitching about a movie. You came on here and your bitching at me bitching about a movie. So whos the more bitch???
  • deathmetalhero
its definitely you for using the phrase 'generation emo'.
  • REAL6
Nah its not me, i think your mad because it touched a nerve with you, that's why. Awwww poor baby.
  • deathmetalhero
I wouldn't say mad at all, but just amazed by that phrase. but whatever man, keep using it and looking like a douche. I was just looking out for you bro.
  • REAL6
You're not looking out for me if your calling me douche. Well i'm gonna keep using for this Generation because everyone on here is always whining about something in this day and age. They must be children ;)
  • Hey man, what happened to yoru video review of Watchmen? one minute it was up, and then it wasn't.
  • I think its a good idea! Theres gonna be a lot of ghostbusters happening this year...the game the blu ray! perfect timining
  • This will still come out before The Arrested Development Movie
  • Duke Nukem Forever might come out before the Arrested Development Movie.
  • Im looking more forward to Duke then a shitty Ghostbusters 3 movie
  • Solid
As a huge ghostbusters fan, I'm both excited and scared of this movie. We all saw how Indy 4 was an embarrassment to the franchise more than a great final chapter. The star wars prequels too, though naive kids eat them up, are inferior films than the originals. It's become a trend today to destroy once great or decent franchises with bad sequels. I don't want to see that happen to gb, the first being I believe an almost perfect movie. the second's a good film too. If they were to go ahead and deliver just another good movie rather than a great one, I don't want them to waste theirs and our time...
  • Scafl
Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was a good movie.
  • Fartie Lange
the first one is great. its a classic. very good flick.

on the other hand, Ghostbusters 2 is complete shit. its unwatchable

i dont have alot of confidencein this project
  • I agree totally. Ghostbusters 2 was my first big disappointment as a film fan.

    But maybe jusy maybe.....
  • If you're gonna do it again, you gotta do it right. I'm confident that with the original people involved, guiding the story, and if a BOOMTASTIC script can be delivered, this could be a fantastic return for GHOSTBUSTERS. However, one has to consider the time that has passed and we hope and pray that, if greenlit, GB3 doesn't meet the fate of INDY4... similar circumstances, really...
  • Scafl
If Ghostbusters 3 met the fate of Indy 4 it would be awesome.
  • The only reason I have hope is that Bill Murray wants to be involved. If Murray ends up in the film then I'll be uber excited to see this.
If Murray passes on the other hand, I'll be dreading it, but likely still there opening weekend.
  • Bill Murray's son
If my dad says yes to the script then that means the film is good. If not then well we know what to expect from the film.....a pile of poo.
  • Who's your dad Bill Murray's son. Whats he got to do with it.
  • Charles
Looking forward to this hope the economy doesn't stop it from being made. I think that films will be viewed as a luxury pretty soon.
  • you needn't worry. movies are pretty much insulated from the economic downturn thus far.

Should worry more about whether it will be good or not vs. whether the economy kills it.
  • Charles
Yeah I hear what you're saying but if the monetary system completely fails then the script could be good but it won't be made cause no one will go see it anyway with out spending money.
  • lol. that's a pretty big IF buddy.
  • Spartan117
I'm sure it will suck balls, just like everything from the 80's trying to live in the 00's like Star Wars, Indy this project has FAIL all over it - it makes me sad as Ghostbusters is awesome but the studio will f*ck it over and grown men will cry
  • Spartan117
Loving Generation Emo it just sums them all up so well
  • Stephen Gold
It's come out that Murray was going to pass on any GB sequel, but some of the choices the studio is suggesting for younger 'Busters include Kristen Schaal, Jonah Hill (not Rogen at this time), Andy Samberg and - wait for it- Zac Efron, who apparently wants to get out from under the Disney umbrella. Tracey Morgan is rumored to be their choice for the mayor of New York! It's a pretty screwy cast. Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd will be joined by Ernie Hudson for smaller roles as senior Ghostbusters, training and advising their younger protegees. Donna Dixon will have a small role as Ramis' wife (and Aykroyd's ex wife), a television psychic under investigation for fraud.

Take all of this with a grain of salt, as it comes from "unnamed sources" and shadowy people "connected to the project" who apparently don't have names. I found it on Movie Wire a while back. It's probably all outdated by now anyway. Ghostbuster rumors are like soap bubbles in this town.
  • AlexB
It's funny how people review a movie before it comes out...or even gets out of the preproduction stage...

On another note, I read Dan Aykroyd is coming to my hometown tomorrow for a wine tasting (?!). It would probably be inappropriate to confront him on the subject of Ghostbusters 3, right...?
  • tom
Hey, he might be happy to meet a fan and pleased to hear of the interest out there for a GB3. Why not?
  • Ry-Guy
    Die Hard? Rocky?
  • Spartan117
Die Hard 4 was poorish i did not like the truck vs jet scene. though Rocky B was good
  • I have yet to talk to anyone who thinks this is a really good idea. Eh, it might be ok, but its odds of being a great classic are pretty long.
  • I loved Ghostbusters. I'm going to stay positive about this film till I learn more
