VOTD: Watchmen Trailer Recreated Using Motion Comics

watchmen motion comics trailer

Demonic Murray decided to recreate the movie trailer for Zack Snyder’s Watchmen using clips from the Watchmen Motion Comics. The result shows you just how closely Snyder stuck to the original comic panels from the actual graphic novel. Watch the trailer after the jump.

yep. thats pretty badass. is that content from the original comic?
  • zomg, this is fantastic.
  • Yeah. On iTunes for a while, they were releasing each chapter as a "motion comic" So it wasn't exactly an animated version of the comic. They just took the images from the comic and "moved" them? (not really good at explaining this, haha) I tried watching the first chapter, but it was cringe-worthy. They had to use the same man as the voice actor for ALL of the characters. Kind of disappointing. :/

They just dubbed in Alan Moore's reading of Rorschach's lines to replace the horrible voice that was there before.
  • that's too bad. the trailer looks amazing. maybe they should just play an extra long soundtrack beneath the chapters instead of voicing them.
  • that was pretty great. rorschach's makeshift flamethrower was really well done.
  • i agree that was my favorite scene in the trailer
  • That made me ecstatic, I'm jumping up and down like a mad man.
  • Watching that made me ecstatic.

NICE! I've been waiting for this since the motion comics came out!
  • Kevin
Way awesome. I'm just really crossing my fingers here hoping the movie doesn't suck. I want it to be so good...so so good.

I've been suggesting people to read the series but if they can't, I suggest them to watch the motion comics. I love motion comics. There's a few from Marvel and DC but most of them are trailers.
  • meh.. I'm probably get a zero but I didn't really see it "matching up". :(

I noticed they replaced the Night Owl yell (towards the end of the original trailer) with The Comedian yelling in this version. Kinda peeved me, but nothin big. Otherwise great job.

Very cool, I really can't wait for this movie. The book is great, the comic in motion is awesome, it all comes down the movie...

How great would a 2D animated, big budget movie have been? Wasted opportunity?
  • wiched99
i wouldn't mind seeing that into a movie aside from the actual film it self
  • Interesting animation.
  • Meg
This was awesome. I agree with the above comment that seeing it split-screen style would be phenomenal.
  • i like how they used the original artwork
  • Too fucking cool...
  • i bet you alan moore would like this version!
  • haha i love it, ballin.
  • kickass!

just go buy the motion comic.

that's because Nite Owl never screams like that in the novel. Rorschach's death goes without a witness, and is quiet and all the more disturbing without the yell IMO.
  • Looks really good.
  • Thanks for the comments guys! Yeah, some of the clips from the movie don't match up since they never occur in the comic. I tried to make it tastefully similar as a result. This video was completed because I couldn't sleep one night and had to find something to do instead of staring at my all.

I first read Watchmen tripping balls. This is kinda what it looked like. I can't wait for this movie.

These motion comics totally remind me of old Hanna Barbera stuff, like the Old Jonny Quest or even the old, old 50's Hulk & Spider man cartoons. Motion comics? How 'bout "moving drawerings".

I think they're totally dope as Hell.
  • You should announce a spoiler alert ahead of time so that if anyone hasn't read the book they won't end up getting screwed.
  • seriously. i hope nobody read that. what a dipshit.
  • starscream9289
    Too down!
  • haha, nice.
  • Very cool. I agree, though, that a split screen would be pretty awesome.
  • I just watched the Watchmen motion comics yesterday. It seemed identical for the most part judging by what i've actually seen in the live-action version
  • Wow, what a nice video. I'm happy to see that Snyder stayed so close to the source material. Oh yeah, it's always nice to hear that song.
  • That was pretty darn awesome, I particularly liked the fact he even managed to sync up the 'Smashing Pumpkins' song perfectly like the real live-action trailer. Zack Snyder should get permission and use that as viral video, releasing a 'final' trailer a week before the film is released worldwide! :D
  • great marketing ploy. all the fans of the novel who haven't seen it will be blown away.
  • nice.
  • andy mccrane
    too cool
  • Jake
I got the motion comics from iTunes having never read the book. It's freaking awesome. Are there any differences between the two?
