Linda Hamilton in Talks For Terminator Salvation

Terminator series star Linda Hamilton has confirmed to MTV that she is in active negotiations with Warner Bros to reprise her role of Sarah Connor in Terminator Salvation. Last month director McG said that they were considering an option that would allow them to have “Sarah Connor do a voice over to open the movie.” Apparently that’s now the plan.

I would probably be very happy to loan my voice depending on what the material is,” Hamilton told MTV. “Wait and see. They’re already writing it. We’ve been negotiating it.

And while I think that a Sarah Connor voice over is the perfect way to introduce the audience to the post-apocalyptic world of the future, it doesn’t exactly seem like a juicy role. Some fans expected Hamilton to turn down the opportunity because the actress turned down an offer to be in Terminator 3 because she thought the character was “disposable” and “negligible”.

  • Terminator 3 looked like a steaming pile, this looks less like a steaming pile.
  • I never knew she turned down T3, but her reasons sound pretty good to me. An opening voice over would be cool, but do we really need an opening narration to dumb down the movie for people not affiliated with Terminator?
  • *dies from happiness*

YYEEEEEEEEES!!!!!!!!!!! I LOOOOVE HER AS SARAH CONNOR... she was my childhood hero as I was growing up... god, I'd kiss her feet.

Damn!!! MAYBE THERE IS A GOD!!!!!!!!!!!
  • TERMINATORFAN
OMG this movie is looking better and better by the day!!! Can't Wait!!

I don't know. T1 and T2 have a high place in my film collection, but Salvation looks like it's trying to be something different. Would having Hamilton attached to the project provide just a weak link to the others? I also can't get the 'Sarah Connor Chronicles' out of my head. By the end of this new supposed trilogy, the franchise will be a 're-invented' patchwork!

    Maybe it'll work. I'll geek-out either way.

But it's like having Judy Dench as 'M' in Casino Royale, she's the only surviving relic from the previous Bond films. (No offense to Mrs. Dench, I'm a big fan.)
  • Would you say the same thing about a game like Fallout? It's all about the atmosphere. If I recall she gave some rather chilling dialog in T2.
  • Wow, this close to release and they still haven't figured out if they're going to have her do a voiceover or not? Cutting it a little close, but I suppose that's normal for such a big film.
  • i thought the voice-over intro would fit the bill. i don't know if her reprising her role will work...that would totally depend on how they write it.
  • Yeah but that is a video game... Plus that narration was written by Cameron, this is a fucking McG movie. She does have a chilling voice, but like what does it even sound like now?!?!

  • I wouldn't be against her doing a voice over, could be really good if done well. My question is what the hell happened to Linda Hamilton, does she not act anymore?
  • From what I understand the franchise already is a patchwork. T1 and T2 are their own timeline, T3 is its own, Sarah Connor Chronicles follows the first two films but ignores T3 (same with this film), the books are their own continuity...

And people think Star Trek canon is bad.
  • Saesee Tom
    Yeah, true.

I'm just glad Arnie isn't in this one. From what I remember about T3, I just thought that a film about deadly robot technology and time travel could have done without the Governator.
  • I reeeeeeaaaaaaaallllllllly couldn't care less. If the person doing the voiceover for anything is not either British or The Allstate man then you might as well just type it on a word document and let your Mac do the voiceover.
  • OMG TERMINATORFAN, OMG!
  • No. It really isn't. That's a pretty bad sign. Clearly, since they haven't even written the voiceover yet, it was not a part of the original idea for the movie. I remember way back in the day when a little movie called Blade Runner decided that they could do with a voice over narration that wasn't a part of the original idea...
  • She got really ugly.

Or you could, you know, not do it and instead trust that the audience is not a bunch of morons who need information spoon fed to them by Linda Hamilton.

    So MCG's totally ignoring T3. What a D bag.
  • Blade Runner came to mind for me as well. What I meant was, there have been films that do get last minute edits and it wouldn't be surprising if they're still finishing up the post process. I suppose, though, this is a lot more than just a simple edit.

    muffin7,

For someone who "couldn't care less" you posted 4 different times. Somehow I think you do care, I think you care a lot.
  • I care about the movie and the franchise. I do not care about a voiceover from Hamilton. I think that it is unnecessary. Plus I'm between projects at the moment and am rather bored. At this point I would comment four times about anything. Honestly, I'm surprised that I haven't posted in the twilight section yet...
  • she needs to do this
  • that was totally uncalled for, you douche-bag. She;s an actress, not a f--king Playboy model. Dumb cunt.
  • shut the hell up, don't bother posting on a Terminator thread if you don't give a shit. no one is forcing you to read about this franchise.
  • I care about the move, just not a voiceover from Linda Hamilton. I think the merits of that are abysmal, if not simply just a bad sign that the movie needs more explanation. I just thought that it was funny he named himself TERMINATORFAN in all caps. I find people who use all caps for anything to be amusing. Sorry if that rubbed you the wrong way, Angry.
Dwight, I think what really pissed her off was a comment below where I said that Linda Hamilton is ugly. I believe this to be the reason why she has stopped appearing in movies, she doesn't have the face for it anymore. That happens with time, as people we age and get ugly (pessimistic, I know) and if you are an actor it would be smart to have other skills in order to keep working after your looks go out the window. After all, Hollywood does tend to cast more universally attractive and young people, the roles for older woman are few and far between. Do I agree with this way of doing things? No. I believe that people are useful no matter how they look or what their age is. But I do understand why the industry is this way, it's because they want to make as much money as possible. Plus, I believe that if you are an actor than you are opening yourself up to public scrutiny in terms of your looks. As an actor, one should be aware of ones looks and use that to ones advantage rather than get upset about it. It's just the way I look at things in the industry, I judge what goes on the screen as product.
Off screen I am certain that Hamilton is a wonderful person and I am sorry if I offended any of her fans with my comments. But what would she care? She's got that big pile of Cameron's money that affords her the ability to be picky about things like this.
  • 1st off: love your handle :P
2nd: i agree totally. peeps should just STFU if the only thing they wanna do is go all emo while not even caring about the Terminator universe.
  • i'm not really sure where that came from but o well
  • She would be silly not to get involved with this one.
  • Weyland_Yutani
Instead of now trying to find a desperate link to the old films in a late attempt to generate some cache and buzz, they could have sent someone back in time to get the ball rolling early by hiring someone not McG.
  • g-force 7
Another McG shot, how brave of you Weyland. This movie looks awesome, and this is great news. So i'm not sure what making fun with McG has to do with anything at this point. Can't we just judge the film based on the information we already have?
  • Weyland_Yutani
You are right. It was a cheap shot. I'm still waiting on the final product before I give McG any love. If it is a good film I will be ecstatic and will give the man every respect he will (then) deserve.

Spielberg's trailer for Crystal Skull looked pretty good. I'm just sayin'.
  • 790
    This is a desperate move,,,

    Something the MCGonald would do,,,,
  • MCA
    Erm... We'll see.
Is the Terminator universe not getting a bit confused lately or am I not paying enough attention?
  • Hamilton's voice in Salvation would be awesome...just the sound of her voice would bring me back to the good old days of watching T2 over and over again...
  • Branden
I would love to have Linda Hamilton's voice in the beginning. It would kick major ass.
  • She needs money? :)
  • This is good news. This news makes the movie that much better because it ties the movie to the older ones. I'm all of a sudden thinking that this movie might be worth watching and a redemption opportunity for the franchise and McG.
  • This would add an extra layer of authenticity, somewhat to the new 'Terminator Salvation' film in my opinion. After all, we had Sarah imagining 'Judgement Day', so it would be a nice minimalist touch to have her voiceover opening us to the actual 'Judgement Day/Apocalypse'.
  • So McG is a douchebag for ignoring T3 a.k.a the one that was never made? I give him kudos for it. I'd say do a Terminator reboot based on the T2 timeline!
  • bit OT but i for one cant wait for the T2: Judgment Day 'Skynet Edition' on blu :D
