Mickey Rourke Updates on Iron Man 2 Involvement

As of yesterday, Mickey Rourke is officially participating in Sly Stallone’s The Expendables, but the forecast for his involvement in Iron Man 2 is cloudy with a chance of nada. Speaking with Vulture at Fashion Week, Rourke had this to say…

“Right now, we’re not doing Iron Man 2,” Rourke told us grimly.

Rourke is said to be up for a variation of the villain Whiplash, though early trade reports had him pegged for another baddie, Crimson Dynamo. The comeback kid remains a favorite to take Best Actor at this year’s Academy Awards; you may have come across a totally unvetted list of the winners today that goes one step further. Perhaps he’s waiting it out. In others news, his pet chihuahua and beloved companion passed away and he plans to attend and enjoy Wrestlemania (though not partake) because it’s a free country and what’s the big deal?

    I think Mickey Rourke would be great in this movie – I loved him in Sin City and agree with the EverHype review that called The Wrestler “Pleasing” and gave it 3.5 stars. He’s got that great super-villain look that would fit perfectly into this comic book adaptation. I’m glad we’re seeing more of this talented actor!

  • Maybe Mickey's holding out for some extra financial gain with his Oscar on the horizon to us as a bargaining tool? Or maybe Marvel don't want to over-complicate things with too many characters/can't economically afford to place Mickey in this picture? Or, well it could be anything, this story is continually up and down, hopefully soon we will have a permanent answer...

  • As much as Chris Jericho is talking up The Wrestler on WWE programming I would be suprised if there is not a Rourke angle at Wrestlemania 25. Just saying why would they overhype the thing if they aren't getting any attention
