    Where's Rose?
  • this looks really close to the origins comic

Well, you are right, in a way, but i woudn't go so far as to say, "in any way, shape or form" The writer of the Origin series said he did not originally intend for the two to be the same, but said "It could be", and would have no problem with another writer creating such a story to make the connection, as long as he respected the character and wrote a good story.

Listen, here's the thing. I'm not entirely sure the kid is being a bad actor or a very very good one. The fact of the matter is, 'James' is sickly during this period in his life. If thsi follows the mini-series even a little, he's ill during the majority of his childhood. He's waifish, pale, breathing poorly, and coughing a lot.

Question some of you people should be asking yourself... Is this kid playing the part badly, or is he playing the part of a sick child very well?
  • FATHER! FATHER!

    boo bad acting.
  • the kid who plays a young logan looks like steve coogan but evil. it's kinda weird. i desperately want this to be good. jackman looks like he's been really making sure the fans are happy so i have hig hopes.

in the original 6 part wolverine origins, they boy who grows up with our young logan is a kid called 'dog', it is not sabertooth in any way shape or form.

it is very comforting to see they have at least used the first 'origins' mini series as a spring board for their story. i understand that everything we love about the comics cannot be translated to the screen, but they are keeping it as close as possible.

I hate that there's some guy on this thread that thumbs down anyone who is remotely critical of the trailer. Probably some studio lacky who has an account.
  • There's just something about that scene at the end of the tv-spot (and it is also in the trailer) where Wolverine rises out of the chemical/water/what-ever and spreads his arms in some form of mutant induced I-want-revenge style rage. A part from that, everything else looked ok, but what else can you expect from a tv-spot?
  • Thanks for the support.
  • Well, despite the repetitive-ness, I do agree with your argument.
  • it feels weird that they're doing wolverines origin story from 'origin' the comic book so relatively soon in terms of the character's exposure on film. i don't even feel like it was a mystery...i don't think the franchise earned that yet.
  • Well thank you for reading my comments. I haven't responded to all of the child actor comments but that seems to be the only problem with everyone. I just think that they shouldn't dismiss this whole movie just becaue a kid that's most likely not going to be in the film more than 3 minutes. Yeah, I know I said the same thing again but it's true.
  • Ah, this answers my question of why Wolverine is called "James" in the spot and yet he is called "Logan" later in life. Thanks for the clarification.
  • No offense Landfill, but do you really have to respond to EVERYONE'S comment about child actors? You're saying the same thing like 6 times.
  • Dvq
actually i can bash the movie by just watching the "emotional angle" of the kid screaming to god (i think) with the claws out.
  • dave
    no rose :(
  • Yay! Let's completely bash a movie based on a one minute clip! Let's not read anything that doesn't have to do with movie news! Woohoo! Fuck reading the source materials!

Looks awesome. I'm glad they incorporated Origin. I can't wait to see more.
  • Ok I'll be the first to say this looks alright. When are we ever going to see Wolverine with bone claws and in child form? Never after this film, and of course Wolverine's going to be a father loving little kid, did you guys expect him to talk like the baddest guy on Earth and to not say father like a child is supposed to?

This TV spot makes me want to see this and it's only going to get better with the next two.
  • You're of course talking about the condition MBS, or Michael Bay Syndrome.
  • Albert Brodsky
It always bothered me in X2 when William Stryker tells Wolverine that "he just gave him claws." Now we see that he didn't actually give him claws, he just coated them. Doesn't make sense.
  • Brad
Looks corny and cliche, and that's coming from a guy who thought X-Men 3 was ok.
  • So one kid's bad performance that lasts probably 2 to 3 minutes means the entire movie sucks? I know you didn't say it was going to suck but you can' blame the kid and say this movie isn't going to do well because of this first TV spot. I think that the next two TV spots, the ones without child actors, will be alot better.
  • I thought X3 was decent. It's far from the car crash some people make it out to be. The main problem with it is that it's not X2. X2 corrected every problem with X-Men and delivered some more. It was thrilling, had some cracking set-pieces and cranked the story up several notches without betraying the atmosphere and nature of the story and characters. X3 didn't really have anything which hit the ball out of the park; so to speak, whereas X2 had loads of different elements all working in unison.

As for this clip, I was feeling ok about the film before I saw this. I know it's a montage so it's edited to hell but it looked generic in look, confusing and I think that mini-trailer set the record for the most cheesy cliched lines of dialogue in a one minute clip.
  • Solid
I'll give it a chance. Can't be any worse than that garbage X3...

i left a message about the history of wolverines life story and it did not appear in this page anyway here it is again people. if my last messgae appear im sorry but it did not appear the first time i posted it ok guys anyway heres the message i left from before.

heres the whole story guys this is set in 19th century Canada the kid whos talking to Jimmy is actually Sabretooth also the man whos Jimmy father who got shot dead is not his real father his real father is actually the man who Jimmy aka Wolverine go and stab with his bone-claws. his real father name is Thomas Logan his actually the groundskeeper of Howlett's Family. Thomas Logan had an affair with Elizabeth Howlett and she gave birth to James "Jimmy" Howlett. she hide the truth about her affair from her husband John Howlett.

now with this confusion of Sabretooth is actually the brother of Wolverine well in the comics there are so many different relationship between these two, one was that Sabretooth is actually Wolverine father and another are friends that turn enemies. i believe the reason why that they went with Wolverine and Sabretooth been brothers is because it never been in the comics plus in the history of Wolverine life. James "Jimmy" Howlett is actually the second son of John Howlett and Elizabeth Howlett so the first son could actually be Sabertooth, thats the reason why they went with the brother connection for this film.

James "Jimmy" Howlett aka Wolverine changed his name to John Logan is because he took both of his fathers names. he took the first name of John (John Howlett) and took the surname of his biological father Logan (Thomas Logan) to have John Logan also known as Logan.

some of you guys might be shocked he got bone claws but he always had it before he had adamantium fuse with his bones to create the well known adamantium claws that we all love.

i am wondering for this movie that we might get another cameo from Mister Sinister the reason because this is set in the 19th century. i know Mister Sinister is actually from England but he lived in 19th century so maybe he might visit Alberta, Canada or somewhere in Wolverine history in this film.

if you guys dont believe what i said about Wolerine History well guys you need to check wikipedia its all there. if you type "Fictional history of Wolverine" on the search engine on wikipedia you will see the information.

i am not a fan of 20th Century Fox but this time around they seem like they are on point for this movie cause they are following Wolverine history with miner changes.
  • spell/grammar check anyone?

I wish Marvel Studios got the rights back to X-men. They seem to know how to handle their characters. 20th Century Fox is like Midas if everything Midas touched turned into shitty movies.

  • You're right, any new footage that we haven't seen yet is good footage.
  • I thought that was pretty good. Some of the ideas are fairly cliched - I mean, this is just the accessible, trailery stuff anyway - but it seemed pretty well put together.

I hated the original script, and everything I see that moves us further from that feels good.
  • watch it again. They're like 'brogthers' but are not real kin
  • wow from an awesome trailer to this which was VERY underwhelming.

Still bugs me that Sabertooth and Wolverine are brothers

im surprised his mother doesnt have muttinchops because every one else seems to have them.

Hang on, wasn't that Sabretooth (Liev Schrieber) who is being attacked by young Wolverine in the house?
  • simon
Been doing a bit of research into the matter. I'm not a comic book reader so I've simplified what I've read up on for people also in my situation who might want to know. It definitely looks like Liev Schreiber's character is being attacked by a young Wolverine in this clip. One possible explanation is that...

    ***POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT***

...Schreiber is actually playing the roles of Thomas and Dog Logan characters who are in the aforementioned Origins comic series. Thomas Logan is a groundskeeper at the Howlett's estate whose son, Dog Logan, becomes friends with James Howlett (young Wolverine). It is implied that Thomas Logan is romantically involved with Elizabeth Howlett (James' mother) and that he is in fact the father of all her children. This is supported by the fact there's a line in this clip where presumably Thomas Logan says to James; "He wasn't your father...son ".

The writer of the Origins comic has also previously stated that he is open to the possibility of Dog Logan growing up to become Sabretooth. This would make Sabretooth (Dog Logan) and Wolverine (James Howlett) half-brothers and possibly reveals the kid at the end of the clip to be young Sabretooth as he advises young Wolverine that "we're brothers Jimmy, we stick together no matter what"."
  • filmkid
i did not check about Dog Logan thing but i just checked it now Dog Logan could actually be Sabretooth so his father is Thomas Logan. so the brother connection seems right for this film.

heres something i found in an interview with writer Paul Jenkins, the question of Dog being Sabretooth is brought up. Jenkins responds, "Who knows? In my mind, Dog is not intended to be Sabretooth, but he could be. It doesn’t matter. As long as the next writer respects the character and writes a simple story, anything could happen."
  • Why is everyone complaining, isnt this something we wanted, to see how it all begun. I really dont think that clip did damage to the film at all.

  • You can't blame Hugh Jackman for this TV spot because for one, he's not in it but the first part we've already seen. This TV spot just gives us a little taste of what Wolverine was like as a kid. I'm sure the next two will be better.

  • I always wondered how the movie would introduce Wolverine Origin. You have to deal with wimpy, young version of wolverine before you get the bad ass killing machine.
  • So you agree that folks in this forum today aren't interested in films about, say, the human condition or the stuff of life but just want to see "bad ass killing"? Hmmmm. Might I recommend to these people, perhaps, some videogames in place of the cinema?
  • Father! FATHER!

And that's when I gave up.
  • Why?
  • The film looks good thats all I'll say until I actually go and see it.
  • bb6640
    Two words: Oh. Oh.

OK, a few more words to clarify: This does not look good... and I think we may have some cinematic suckage coming our way.
  • i remember peter had a post earlier, talking about how Hugh Jackman came out on his website and tried to reassure his fans that this was going to be a good project.

at the time, it was debated whether his actions were motivated by knowing the film would suck, or if he was truly passionate about the project.

as of now, it would seem to be both.

let's all hope the next 2 spots don't screw it up as badly as this one.
