is the kid sabertooth? at first i thought the grown man was
  • joe
by "kid" i mean the kid at the end who was talking to wolverine
  • Pro. X
no, thats his brother and he dies, sabertooth joins him later for weapon X.
  • hmmm. didnt really change me goin either way.

Bring on 2 and 3 when hes older.
  • Matt
    Lame.
  • everything new just makes it look more and more disappointing

    lame.
  • dave
    wheres rose?
  • This trailer makes the film look terrible, negating the modicum of goodwill the previous trailer had built up for me. The child actor, in particular...his delivery of lines, and that ridiculous, cliche overhead shot of him spreading open his claws for the first time....

    I am just speechless.

I have a feeling that after we see just how bad this film from oscar-winner Gavin Hood turns out to be, we'll all have to begrudgingly accept that Ratner wasnt the worst thing that could have happened to the x-men franchise.
  • gah
This looks bad, but not X3 bad. the child Wolverine attacking Sabretooth looked pretty hillarious.
  • Ryan
I agree about the child actor and the cliche scenes in this trailer, but saying that it makes the film look "terrible" might be a bit too much. Still though, I see your point.
  • Dvq
looks lame as hell, i think im gonna pass until dvd comes out... (to rent that is)
  • I'm glad to see the bone claws and hope they make a reapperance but this is a bad trailer and the kid that plays young Wolverine seems horrible. Still excited though, of course not expecting much.
  • GOB
Horrendous. My anticipation for this movie is now flaccid. That's right. Flaccid.
  • Question: Weren't the Adamantite claws put in when they fused it to his bones? His only mutant power was his ability to regenerate I thought. Hmm, if I'm right then already this movie sucks.
  • theß
he had the claws since he was born. When they did the Adamantium process they just resurfaced.

anyway, hope we don't lose precious movie time with the kiddie version.
  • This is probably the first scene that takes place before the opening credits, after that they show the graphics of all the names involved, than we see Wolverine and Sabretooth in the army or at war or something.
  • Palmer
Seems like they're going with the Origin comic's...well...origin.
  • Palmer
Seems like they're going with the Origin comic's...well...origin. And it is blatantly called X-Men Origins.
  • I'm a little confused also, but I'm certainly not X-Men expect. Did Wolverine always have claws? I never particularly assumed that as a mutant that you could only have one 'special power', but can someone tell me exactly what Wolverine's deal is?

Either way, this tv spot only confirms what we've all been expecting and it makes me wonder if it was ever a good idea to tell a Wolverine origins story (or at least to have Fox tell it) when so much about what makes this characters fascinating is the mystery and enigma that lies behind him. I just don't think I want to see Wolverine's teen angst or his daddy issues.

Wolverine always had bone claws, and when he got turned into Weapon X They were fused with adamantium (like the rest of his skeleton). The clip seems to be based (perhaps a bit loosley) on Origin, the mini-series Marvel did back in the early 00's about Wolverine's past. They do seem to be some changes made to the story though. For one thing it was never directly stated that James/Logan/Wolverine wasn't the real son of the man who raised him. It was strongly implied but left for the readers to figure out for themselves. Also I get the impression that the movie will have it turn out that Sabertooth is Wolverine's older brother which is completely off the mark.

When Origin was first announced a lot of fans instantly assumed it'd be a bad idea. I was one of them, but once I read it I rather liked it. I highly recommend reading it so you can make you're own assessment.
  • Really
go read the comics and quit griping
  • That was possibly one of the worst trailers I've seen out of all the trailers that have been released starting from mid 08 to the early and current 09 trailers. That child actor couldn't act if his life depended on it. Seriously this kids acting range is as good as Paris Hilton's scholastic knowledge. If I didn't know this film was called X-Men Origins: Wolverine I'd think its some Underworld t.v series spin off. The quality of the overall film was seriously that bad.

Ugh so much for the Magneto film………….
  • You do know children aren't supposed to be great actors right? You do know this wasn't a trailer right? The only thing you do know is that Paris Hilton is stupid. Lay off the TV spots until you've seen all three.

Oh yeah, I guarantee you that no matter what this film does, we'll eventually get a Magneto movie.
  • i remember peter had a post earlier, talking about how Hugh Jackman came out on his website and tried to reassure his fans that this was going to be a good project.

at the time, it was debated whether his actions were motivated by knowing the film would suck, or if he was truly passionate about the project.

as of now, it would seem to be both.

let's all hope the next 2 spots don't screw it up as badly as this one.

    Two words: Oh. Oh.

OK, a few more words to clarify: This does not look good... and I think we may have some cinematic suckage coming our way.
  • The film looks good thats all I'll say until I actually go and see it.
  • Father! FATHER!

And that's when I gave up.
  • Why?
  • I always wondered how the movie would introduce Wolverine Origin. You have to deal with wimpy, young version of wolverine before you get the bad ass killing machine.
  • So you agree that folks in this forum today aren't interested in films about, say, the human condition or the stuff of life but just want to see "bad ass killing"? Hmmmm. Might I recommend to these people, perhaps, some videogames in place of the cinema?
  • You can't blame Hugh Jackman for this TV spot because for one, he's not in it but the first part we've already seen. This TV spot just gives us a little taste of what Wolverine was like as a kid.

  • Why is everyone complaining, isnt this something we wanted, to see how it all begun. I really dont think that clip did damge to the film at all.

Hang on, wasn't that Sabretooth (Liev Schrieber) who is being attacked by young Wolverine in the house?
  • simon
Been doing a bit of research into the matter. I'm not a comic book reader so I've simplified what I've read up on for people also in my situation who might want to know. It definitely looks like Liev Schreiber's character is being attacked by a young Wolverine in this clip. One possible explanation is that...

    ***POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT***

...Schreiber is actually playing the roles of Thomas and Dog Logan characters who are in the aforementioned Origins comic series. Thomas Logan is a groundskeeper at the Howlett's estate whose son, Dog Logan, becomes friends with James Howlett (young Wolverine). It is implied that Thomas Logan is romantically involved with Elizabeth Howlett (James' mother) and that he is in fact the father of all her children. This is supported by the fact there's a line in this clip where presumably Thomas Logan says to James; "He wasn't your father...son ".

The writer of the Origins comic has also previously stated that he is open to the possibility of Dog Logan growing up to become Sabretooth. This would make Sabretooth (Dog Logan) and Wolverine (James Howlett) half-brothers and possibly reveals the kid at the end of the clip to be young Sabretooth as he advises young Wolverine that "we're brothers Jimmy, we stick together no matter what"."

i did not check about Dog Logan thing but i just checked it now Dog Logan could actually be Sabretooth so his father is Thomas Logan. so the brother connection seems right for this film.

heres something i found in an interview with writer Paul Jenkins, the question of Dog being Sabretooth is brought up. Jenkins responds, "Who knows? In my mind, Dog is not intended to be Sabretooth, but he could be. It doesn’t matter. As long as the next writer respects the character and writes a simple story, anything could happen."
  • unui
im surprised his mother doesnt have muttinchops because every one else seems to have them.
  • wow from an awesome trailer to this which was VERY underwhelming.

Still bugs me that Sabertooth and Wolverine are brothers
  • watch it again. They're like 'brogthers' but are not real kin
  • I thought that was pretty good. Some of the ideas are fairly cliched - I mean, this is just the accessible, trailery stuff anyway - but it seemed pretty well put together.

I hated the original script, and everything I see that moves us further from that feels good.
  • You're right, any new footage that we haven't seen yet is good footage.
  • gah
I wish Marvel Studios got the rights back to X-men. They seem to know how to handle their characters. 20th Century Fox is like the Midas if everything Midas touched turned into shitty movies.

heres the whole story guys this is set in 19th century Canada the kid whos talking to Jimmy is actually Sabretooth also the man whos Jimmy father who got shot dead is not his real father his real father is actually the man who Jimmy aka Wolverine go and stab with his bone-claws. his real father name is Thomas Logan his actually the groundskeeper of Howlett's Family. Thomas Logan had an affair with Elizabeth Howlett and she gave birth to James "Jimmy" Howlett. she hide the truth about her affair from her husband John Howlett.

now with this confusion of Sabretooth is actually the brother of Wolverine well in the comics there are so many different relationship between these two, one was that Sabretooth is actually Wolverine father and another are friends that turn enemies. i believe the reason why that they went with Wolverine and Sabretooth been brothers is because it never been in the comics plus in the history of Wolverine life. James "Jimmy" Howlett is actually the second son of John Howlett and Elizabeth Howlett so the first son could actually be Sabertooth, thats the reason why they went with the brother connection for this film.

James "Jimmy" Howlett aka Wolverine changed his name to John Logan is because he took both of his fathers names. he took the first name of John (John Howlett) and took the surname of his biological father Logan (Thomas Logan) to have John Logan also known as Logan.

some of you guys might be shocked he got bone claws but he always had it before he had adamantium fuse with his bones to create the well known adamantium claws that we all love.

i am wondering for this movie that we might get another cameo from Mister Sinister the reason because this is set in the 19th century. i know Mister Sinister is actually from England but he lived in 19th century so maybe he might visit Alberta, Canada or somewhere in Wolverine history in this film.

if you guys dont believe what i said about Wolerine History well guys you need to check wikipedia its all there. if you type "Fictional history of Wolverine" on the search engine on wikipedia or go to the link below you will see Wolverine history.

i am not a fan of 20th Century Fox but this time around they seem like they are on point for this movie cause they are following Wolverine history with miner changes.
