I think the studio's have picked up on the frenzy that the Superbowl ad generated AND the discussions on these boards. I think they just want to get the film out there whilst interest is at a peak.

Probably also banking on the fact that Star Trek is out only a month before and wanting to ride the wave of interest that'll generate.

It's spectacle theatre, let's just enjoy it for what it is! Personally, I'm so pleased that the current trend in cinema IS for the sci-fi / geek audience - and that's it's being treated with a degree of respect for the genre AND the fans (despite the moaning of the G1 adherents).

Bar, Orci et al are doing a good job with, let's face it, a toy franchise. It ain't great cinema, but it's great fun. Enjoy the ride!
