Inglourious Basterds Teaser Trailer

Most of you were probably impatient like myself and watched the shaky-cam bootleg Entertainment Tonight version of the Inglourious Basterds teaser trailer. But you haven’t seen War, until you’ve seen it through the eyes… of Quentin Tarantino. That’s right, the full trailer has been released on Yahoo. No more having to listen to that annoying E.T. announcer do voice over while Nazis are being killed on screen. You can watch it embedded below. As always, please leave your thoughts in the comments below.

I don’t know what I was expecting, but its clear that this film was shot more traditionally. Notice the lack of moving camera shots. When I first saw this trailer, I was a bit underwhelmed with the lack of style. But I’m excited to see what a Quentin Tarantino WWII movie will be like. The grin that Eli Roth gives after Pitt’s character talks about skinning Nazis is beyond creepy. Some people have been complaining about Pitt’s voice/linereading, but it seems fine to me. This teaser doesn’t show enough and leaves you wanting more (like any good teaser should).

Watch the trailer in High Definition on Yahoo. Inglourious Basterds hits theaters on August 21st 2009.

    Looks better than i thought
  • that was kinda of... not as good as I thought it was going to be.

    ...Tear...
In its total, Pitts voice actually works for me. Can. Not. Wait.
  • Same here! i feel theres going to be a lot of quotning once this movies done
  • I appreciate camp and self-consciousness, but that step towards the camera with Pitt's delivery of "And I want my scalps" has me cringing. I'm really not liking Pitt here.
  • I loved that part.
  • It took a few viewings to like that part but I do like it.

I really can't wait for this... Looks pretty damn awesome.

I thought I was the only one...
This has ruined the empowering "monologue" that I had read in the script... I read it imagining this powerful [possibly somewhat underplayed (in a good way] delivery, but this is just weird. I really don’t like this so far. Except for maybe the black and white scenes (which I’m guessing are the scenes Roth filmed for the "film within the film”, it all just looks forced and boring…

I really can’t believe I’m saying all this for a Tarantino film.

Hopefully I'm wrong, and this turns out to be just great; But so far, waiting years and years, and THIS shows up on my doorstep? hmmmm...
  • I hated it at first as well (really cheesy) - but after watching this full, clean version I'm kind of feeling like it may be one of those Tarantino lines that is slightly campy but repeated for years to come...
  • It's no surprise to me if it becomes an internet acronym.

"I want mah skalps!" -Halo 3 Slayer Match
  • It bothered me at first as well but I think it's just because we're use to a cut to a close-up shot at a moment like that, where in this film, they seem to have longer takes where the camera is static and the actors are more animated. It's different but it could work well, I'm very excited to watch it!
  • That looked more professional than what was shown yesterday. Now I am looking forward to the movie.

Brad Pitt just sounds like Brad Pitt doing a stupid voice.
  • The One Two
Pitt's voice works. What are those clowns talking about?
  • joe
    whoaaaaa looks really cool
  • WOW!!!! They showed only like 3 scenes Peter, I'm sure theres going to be some amazing camera work, theres NO DOUBT about it. Quentin loves his camera moving, theres no viscerality without it.... anyway. HOLY SHIT!!!! I loved the tagline.. "Once upon a time... in Nazi Occupied France..." BTW, this is going to probably be Quentin Tarantino's most succesful film. Can't fucking wait!
  • Again, my commentary is on the trailer, not the film. I think I was just expecting a more stylized movie, and non moving camera aside, this looks pretty traditional (cinematography wise)
  • Judging just from the trailer I see how someone can make that assumption, but a Tarantino movie without long slow motion tracking shots, close up of faces while someone else talks, and fast cuts of up close objects would be hard to imagine. I'm sure he's added those things in there.

The slow motion action scenes were a Peckinpah favorite of mine and it looks like there might be some Straw Dogs and/or Wild Bunch references (cinematogrophy wise) in there fromt he looks of the trailer.

Also, the whole courtyard peech seems like an ode to The Dirty Dozen.
  • Its still only a teaser trailer! You might get blown away with the trailer?

    PUMPED!
  • Holy shit. that was epic. I might just be a QT fanboy, but that looks fantastic.
  • ___
    WOW!!!! That was... underwhelming....
  • Ah man I thought that was great, I have been quoting that all day and its created a lot of awkward moments. I love that accent he has, its pretty bad ass I think. Also this just looks like a war film that we have never seen before, and you know QT will do something different and I love the over the top-ness to the trailer. Also we need a good war movie after Miracle at Saint Anna and Defiance, no movies get any more cliche then those. This just looks so great, and original.
  • He could have cut in some of the cold open pieces, cause that scene is nuts, and yeah brad pitt is over the top but think about John travolta in Pulp Fiction, Or even for that matter Uma Thurman's delivery of " You name is Buck and yo like to ..." that still makes me cring and not because of what happens next.

This movie is going to be awesome successful I don't think so.
  • I was very 'meh' when i first heard about IB here but now with some footage to see with this teaser..... aweeeesomeee!
  • truth
    overrated.
  • Geet
I'm kinda feeling the same way. I'd like to wonder how ppl would react had it been someone else instead of Tarantino to be fronting this film.
  • This movie is going to be great. I love the fact that this has no idiot talking during the actual footage of the teaser trailer. I really want to see this movie soon.
  • I'm with you. This high quality teaser brought much comfort and excitment for this film! Cannot wait!

    that hitler looks perfect.
like a caricature of hitler, a cartoon caricature.

compare this hitler to bob clampett's hitler, absolutely gorgeous.
  • or THE GREAT DICTATOR with Charlie Chaplin!
  • Best part of the trailer - by far.

    Nein nein nein
  • The_Kid
it's looks pretty good to me, I don't really see what's bad about it? That grin that Eli Roth has is a little creepy though, you're right about that.
  • Alex
    Very good I say.
  • THE TRAILER DOESN'T WORK!!! It keeps stopping itself whenever I try to replay it... *cries*
  • Needs red band trailer, but overall I'm pleased.
