Land of the Lost Movie Trailer

Universal has released a full length trailer for Land of the Lost on Subwayfreshbuzz.com. It’s basically an extended version of the teaser that played during the Super Bowl. We get to see more of the fantastical land in the alternative universe they become transported to. And it is that aspect of the movie that I’m most interested in. As I said in the teaser advertisement post, the comedy seems to be more of the same Will Farrell act that we’ve seen in film after film. Watch the trailer embedded after the jump and leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Based on the classic television series created by Sid & Marty Krofft, LAND OF THE  LOST stars Will Ferrell as the has-been scientist Dr. Rick Marshall.  Anna Friel stars as his crack-smart research assistant and Danny McBride plays a redneck survivalist who is sucked alongside the two scientists into an adventure through a space-time vortex.  With no weapons, few skills and questionable smarts to survive in an alternate universe full of marauding dinosaurs and fantastic creatures from beyond our world, they rely on an unlikely ally and navigate through a place of spectacular sights and super-scaled comedy known as the Land of the Lost.

Land of the Lost hits theaters on June 5th 2009.

The movie doesn't look like something I would normally go to see, but if they used Dr. Steel's "Land of the Lost" song in it somewhere I would DEFINITELY watch it.
  • This looks like will farrel for the kids! I ve stopped becoming a fan of him once thinking he was a great comedian! i might pick this up on dvd or on shwotime
  • it boils down to two simple words: anna friel
  • joe
i hope ferrell can regain the status he had in my book, at least a little bit, in this movie. looks alright to me

Uhh... yeah. Netflix instant play on a rainy sunday... maybe...

I'm interested in Will Ferrell doing a big-budget comedy like this, but what really excited me about this is Danny McBride.
  • The minute I heard Will Ferrell, I lost interest....ick.
  • From other shots in the film, it seems like they are trying to mimic some of the cheesy effects form the original series: bad blue screen, hokey plastic costumes and props, etc. I think this shot is supposed be like a wink to the audience, like "we know its bad, you know its bad, ha, ha"
  • I dunno, it does seem like it's on the border for me. It could be a bit more crappy for my liking. If they were going in that direction, they should have done it legitimately old-school, with claymation and what not.

CG can eat all sorts of my balls.
  • Looks fun, but on netflix.
  • I keep seeing the same layers of comedy from Will Farrell, i need to see something different.. But i love Will Farrell, and i'll keep going to see his movies..
  • Other films that this trailer reminded me of:

Dinosaur: Journey to the center of the earth
    Desert landsacape: Resident Evil Extinction
The raft in the river: City of ember
    Ship in desert: Sahara
    Giant crab: Pirates-at world's end.

I think you could probably just splice scenes from all these movies together, stick Farrell's head on everyone else's body, and get the same trailer.

    =O

Meh, not impressed. At least there is more Anna Friel and Sleestacks.
  • Ooh yes, Anna should get more roles.
  • The producers probably rushed it out for the super-bowl before the final comp was completed.
  • This looks silly, but fun silly. I still enjoy Ferrell and I love Danny McBride. I will very like this is a go.

This doesn't really have the feel of the TV show, given there seems to be debris from our civilization scattered about. About the only thing recognizable from the TV show is the waterfall, the sleestacks, and Chacka (who I hope will still say "Aree").

Also, for those of you who might remember the original show, does it look like Ferrel is in a pylon at the end of the preview? The pylons were those strange structures that contained crystals and that seemed to have control over the Land of the Lost.
  • I remember watching this show all the time as a kid. Unfortunately I think I need to re-watch it and catch up. But from what I can recall, this doesn't do any justice to the tv show. Was it even a comedy? I was a kid so I might have missed the comedy-aspect entirely. =/

Honestly, while I can see *why* the producers succumbed to the temptation to make a comedy out of this the same way most other film remakes of that ilk have done --those old 70's shows were just soooo cheesy-- I'm rather sad that they went that route with Land of the Lost. Not just because it holds cherished childhood memories for me when I was too young to notice how cheesy it all was, but also because, on a more detached analytical level, I recognize that beneath all the ham-fisted presentation, the original series actually had some pretty compelling story concepts for the time that could have been worked into a successful movie with a least a *slightly* more serious tone. It would have been very interesting if they had chosen to imbue a sort of LOST-style mystery vibe to the whole thing the way the original story did.

It would doubtless have worked very well that way too, as an opportunity to strip the story of all the previous goofiness to see if it could stand on its own merit with a bigger budget and better actors (that Wesley dude from the original was just ridiculous with the overacting, as I recall). So here's to sidelined potential!

I really like the shot of him running in the sang with the dinos around him and the shaky cam. It really gives it a "lost world" feeling... Almost makes up for the last shot
  • Its just the same as using a song in a trailer...
In fact there is a website devoted to music used in in trailers - http://www.soundtrack.net/trailers/
  • I was super happy when I saw the Wolverine trailer using the John Murphy score from Sunshine. I took it as a good sign because I love the Sunshine score. Why this would bode well for X--Men I couldn't say, but I somehow feel it does.

Is this in 3d? For some reason that last shot looked like it is going to be in 3d. I am not sold on 3d yet, I think of it as a gimmick still , which is why I loved it in MBV. If this is 3d I will lose a lot of interest in it. Call me crazy.
  • People are going to eat this movie up... i just hate that they use CGI dinos these days.. the first two Jurassic Parks the dinosaurs looked sooo real... then JP3 came along with CGI dinos and it left all the magic on the table. I know its cheaper but come on. CGI monsters are sooo fake looking
  • Danny McBride.

    Enough said.
  • agreed
this guy made Hot Rod watchable
  • everyone in Hot Rod made hot rod watchable. and Jorma Taccone is in this too!
  • Am I the only one who still thinks Will Ferrell is funny? I know he's an extremely limited actor, but I still can't stop laughing at Anchorman.
  • Nah, I think Will Ferrell is funny ...at most of the time...sometimes he can get a little tedious.
  • brian
no. anchorman is great. people forget that he doesn't write everything he does
  • Expect the waterfall attraction at Universal Studios very soon if this movie actually manages to be a success.
  • i find will farrell funny so i will definitely watch it in theater but the blue screen still looks horrible
  • Will doesnt seem the right person for me. This seems more a role Brendan Fraiser could pull off and make awesome....and most of the effects look worse that 10,000 BC....ugh
  • I am seeing this for Jorma Taccone and Anna Friel. Otherwise, I am not interested.
  • John
Looks like it could be good, but that last FX shot was horrible.
  • The superimposing work on that last 'trying to be still' shot is pretty woeful. I can see the appeal of the film based on this full trailer, it will probably make a mint and be a huge hit on DVD. Everything it needs to be and nothing more.
  • Agreed, it's weird to put such a long shot in the trailer that doesn't look all that good.
  • i dont know about this one

i'm IN LOVE with dinosaurs, but... hmm
  • pellstep
Hey, I just saw this trailer and I was noticing that one of the songs used is actually from the Ocean's 13 soundtrack.

The title of the song is "All Sewn Up" and it's composed by David Holmes.

Is using the score from a previously released film in your movie trailer Kosher?

    Just an observation...
  • Dr T
Your wrong that music isn't from Ocean's 13! It is by a group called The Digital Motion. The track is called Mellow 5. You can find TDM's music at www.garageband.com/digitalmotion
  • You're kidding right? It's done constantly.... but congratulations on your discovery.
  • God, I am such an a**hole.
  • Plehplehpleh
Trailers almost always use music from other films.
  • How do you feel about the last shot in this version Peter?
I;m more interested in this film after this trailer than the superbowl teaser, but probably not enough o see it in theatres...
