Watchmen: The Keene Act & You 1977 Government PSA

The Watchmen viral website The New Frontiersman has posted a new retro Government Public Service Announcement from 1977 titled “The Keene Act & You”. The video explains the new government act to make the streets safer by removing costume vigilantest: No Masks, No Capes, No Gadgets or Experimental Weapons, No Dangerous Unlicensed Vehicles. Watch the video after the jump.

  • Wow I thought that was even better than the Doctor Manhattan video.
  • Agreed. So far I love the way they've handled the alternate history stuff.
  • Donald
Me too. Which makes me wonder if the Black Freighter/Under the Hood dvd will be as good as this stuff. You think it will be anything like it?
  • Nothing too special, but it was cool to watch. I thought it was interesting how they showed some depth to the act; plays a big role in the novel.
  • that was rad
  • Great video, but they're going WAY overboard with Nixon by putting him on Mount Rushmore.
  • great antiqued feel to the video.

LOL @ richard nixon on mt. rushmore.
  • I liked the homage to the Patterson Bigfoot film with Rorschach walking away from the camera.
  • LookinCool
LOL. Hadn't even noticed that. That's awesome.
  • maracle
    Thats the first thing thought
  • That was pretty awesome. I call for more viral videos like this! :)
  • I can't believe a Watchmen film is only a month away.
  • Gordon Freeman
They also released a news broadcast on the riots. http://friendfeed.com/e/03ac35ee-6dbe-4d0a-8673-8...
  • Haha, like that window is going to stop Rorschach.
  • Yeah. Also, as Dan's apartment showed, neither would a lock...

these virals are getting me so excited for the movie!
  • totally. i hope this comes out in hong kong at the right time
  • "Awww man... can't steal pies. Hungry. "
  • Imagine if Warner did with Watchmen like they did with Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince after all these virals that keep getting fans excited for the movie...I think that a riot of rorschach cosplayers would burn down the studios.
  • Love the "Being vigilant is not a crime". haha
  • oh this movie is opening march 12th... can't wait...
  • Schmooie
The carving of Mount Rushmore wasn't completed until 1941. Nixon first took office in 1969. Don't tell me that they removed Lincoln! I understand the alternahistory of the Alan Moore source work but this is taking it too far. The marketing/Zach Snyder /facepalm...
  • what an asshole! Dude, you need to be cool
  • They're hitting the nail right on the head. I wonder just how involved with the production of these videos Zack Snyder is....
  • I now just want Watchmen to become like a 12 hour long documentary-style. They are really nailing the life and times of the Watchmen, but it seems like it would contrast with Snyder's 300-style he might use in the theatrical release.
  • that was really good.
  • Its great to see how much detail they are putting into this film

I've found the "Better Blue than Red" retromemorabilia at cafepress

Aren't police uniforms technically the same as costumes? Also, aren't tazers basically experimental weapons?

    "Don't taze me bro!"
  • I don't think that back in 1985 cops used tazers....or did they?
  • I really enjoyed that! I have been up and down with watchmen! But this historical virals have caught my attention
  • Palmer
Pfft, as if a window can stop someone like Rorschach or the Comedian.
  • First the HUAC blacklists potential communists in Hollywood, and now they decide to ban vigilante's? Crazy! :p I love these viral video's setting up the cultural context in which the Watchmen Universe is situated perfectly. "Rather Be Blue Than Red."
  • the viral continues...
  • From what I understand Under The Hood is going to be like a fake documentary, with all the actors reprising their roles. That actually sounds really cool.

To just about everybody that are reading these posts, 9-1-1 has been around as long as we have. In 1977 though, only about 20% of the US had 9-1-1. OOPS.
