Our friend Felipe from CSTSE points out that Tagruato, the evil Japanese corporation from the Cloverfield viral campaign, has a cameo in JJ AbramsStar Trek. A skyscraper in a futuristic San Francisco (home to Starfleet Academy) features the Tagruato logo. A cool little Easter egg. Knowing Abrams, Star Trek is bound to be full of little nods like this to Abrams’ other films and Trek history.

that so awesome. Im a big fan of Fringe and I just recently started to Tivo season 5 of Lost as I bought season 1-4 and im playing catchup and very much liked Cloverfield so little things like this, make the fanboy inside of me happy
  • Joey
Didn't he say there was only an accidental Slusho! referance in this movie?
  • How the heck did Felipe spot that? Good work!
  • I hope they're hidden deep in there. Seeing some Dharma reference or Kirk drinking a Slusho would probably blow it for me.
  • gah
Well, according to AICN, Kirk does drink a Slusho! in the film.
  • Binaryshock
This is gonna sound stupid as fuck. I don't understand why I'm not happy with this, but I ain't. This isn' the Abramverse. This is Trek. Why does he have to put stuff like that, stuff that has no reason to be attached to Star Trek in a movie. I like most of his stuff I recently got into Lost, I enjoyed Cloverfield and I'm liking Fringe more and more. But seriously, as much as I can understand and somewhat don't agree with the "we need to make it more like star wars, more actiony to get the main stream in to watch the movie", this is just plain stupid.
  • in a weird way i agree with you. im no treky. non the less im excited but i do agree.
  • Brian
Exactly how I feel. He needs to respect the Star Trek universe and stop trying to put this crap in there.
  • "we need to make it more like star wars, more actiony to get the main stream in to watch the movie"

how else would they make back the profit? give me the name of one gigantic summer tentpole (other than TDK) that would rather focus on telling a fantastic, well-rounded story that isn't entirely action-based. the formula works, so why bother fixing it?

like illegalprelude says, quit your griping. you'll still see the movie anyway.
  • Binaryshock
    1) did I say they shouldn't? I said I don't agree with it slightly due to trek fanboyishness but I do understand it
    2) they shouldn't fix the formula cause it does make money but I have the right to think it kinda sucks
    3) When did I say I wasn't going to see the movie? I know no matter what he or anyone does to it I'll go watch it and probably be entertained, but still find some shit to nitpick about. Not once did I say I wouldn't go see it.
    4) the whole comment system is to voice ones opinions, I did that. I'm pretty sure I'm allowed to say "hey I don't think this is cool" no matter how little reason one might have
    5) Your the one griping by trying to tear down my opinion. So how about you and illegalprelude can stop your griping and just continue to read on, instead of trying to put people down for having their own views on shit
  • 1) no, but is something so incredibly wrong with a little Abramverse getting the the Trekverse? it's not like the last few movies have been that spectacular, maybe it needs this fresh look from an outsider to add his own flourishes.
    2) i never condemned your idea that the formula sucks, i kinda agree.
    3) i know you didn't. i was simply saying that you're going to see the movie regardless, so why complain?
    4) and i have the reply button, which means i get to disagree with your opinion, thereby making a conversation.
    5) i wasn't trying to tear down your opinion, just simply pointing out the flaw i saw in it. i was griping at your opinion, whereas you were griping at the filmmakers.
    6) lists are fun.
  • Relax
Seriously, it's a movie. I'm a huge Trek fan, but also... it's a movie. The little easter eggs will not, in any way, detract from the film; he's too good a filmmaker for that. The man's not stupid, for God's sake! And show me in the Trek canon where Slusho DIDN'T exist somewhere! And, it's a logo on a prop in a 4 second shot, relax and enjoy the movie!
  • I'm just surprised somebody managed to take the time to study that shot enough that they managed to spot the 'Abrams-verse' (taken from BinaryS) reference! You kind of expect this with what-ever Abrams is involved with nowadays though.
  • illegalprelude
Because this is something that somebody had to pause on the exact spot to see, meaning 99% of the audience wont ever see this (its not like Kirk and them are going on the USS Slusho) while for those who are fans of his work, will snicker when they hear about it. But in no way or shape does this take away from Trek so stop getting your panties in a bunch.
  • I always wonder how in the world people find those. It's a quick-paced trailer and they see a tiny logo on a distant skyscraper?
  • cjg
i think its pretty cool, makes the film his and i liked the little nod to lost in cloverfield with the Dharma logo.
I dont think it takes anything away from the film because its a tiny minor detail in a large movie. I highly doubt the cloverfield monster itself shows up or the black smoke monster to take down the enterprise... so take it for what it is.. like someone had said its for his fans only and thats the only people it is going to make a nod or laugh to
  • EXACTLY! now if only we could get the trekkers to relax a little.
  • Palmer
Oh he's a sly one that JJ.
  • Anrkist
    GABBO!
  • freemachine
If you listen closely to the audio during the space battle scene you can here someone on the bridge shout, "IT'S A LION!"
  • Anonymouse
    It's actually "It's alive!"

Made that same mistake when I first saw the Cloverfield Trailer.
  • mcgruff
it is disgusting that somebody noticed that.
    and awesome.
  • I've always like when they throw little Easter eggs into movies/tv shows. I'm diggin it.
  • I guess T.I.D.O. Wave didn't accomplish their goal, if Tagruato lasts that long.
  • maybe that's the reason the future is even like that..
  • Luke
Dudes, that logo is sooooooo hidden that only a super geek with way too much time on his hands would even see it let alone know what the f it was. Relax. It's likely something they put in as an inside joking never thinking anyone would actually see it. He's not injecting his world into Trek. Geez.
  • im suprised someone did see it jeez very well hidden. i wouldnt be suprised if someone leaked the info to someone or else people are way better then i was at find evil corporation logos extreme waldo edition
  • silencer
It's great that JJ Abrams is filling star trek with his own stuff. Why just knowing that crap from cloverfield is being rammed into star trek just makes me want to jump for joy with Spock.
    I hate you, JJ Abrams.
  • relax
Whine whine whine... did you see the movie yet? Shut up.
  • cineMATTic
Awesome. Goddamn I love that JJ Abrams. I didn't even think about looking that hard for easter eggs but it's JJ so I should have known better.
  • J J Abrams self-promoting? No, that would never happen.
  • dlb
JJ Abrams needs to take a break from this mystery viral bull crap. Its irritating and uninspired
  • relax
Um, no, you're absolutely wrong. It's thoroughly inspired. The crap that's been around for 40 years is uninspired.
  • I was hoping we would see something like this. Maybe we can even hear something in the background about the huge monster that ripped through New York that one time.
  • I like little things like this.
  • wow, such a good find.. Im so ready for a Cloverfield sequel..
  • Karen
I have never been a huge Trekkie, although I love the first few movies. I must say that I'm really looking forward to this new Star Trek, mainly because Abrams is directing it.

Another reason to see this is that the son of the original Scotty has a role with the news Scotty. Pure f'in genious!! He's quite the looker too (check out his IMDB below)

    http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1067053/
  • I love how Abrams keeps putting eggs in all his projects. Now we need cloverfield 2
  • Good work on spotting that!!
  • voltron001
i was one of the guys who was really into that Cloverfield viral video stuff only to find that it had ONE mention in the entire film. Where was the cool backstory to the monster explaining what that Japanese company had to do with it.

Not only that, but Cloverfield was a pretty crappy movie... btw.
  • Kevin
I love these Easter Eggs. Did you see Chris Doohan, the son of the original Scotty can be seen in the Transporter room with the new Scotty. Cool beans.
  • Anonymouse
Just before the bar fight scene, Ahora orders a Slusho Mix after the bartender recommends it to her. :D
