Monsters vs. Aliens 3D Super Bowl Ad

Despite having searched a couple different supermarkets, I was never able to get my hands on a pair of the free 3D glasses for the Monsters vs. Aliens 3D Super Bowl advertisement. But I’m sure many of you probably did, and might want to see the gimmick, i mean trailer again, in 3D. I’ve embedded the Monsters vs. Aliens 3D trailer after the jump thanks to Hulu. Enjoy.

where can i get the glasses?
  • There's no need for them now. All the 3D stuff is gone for awhile.
  • That was pretty good. The 3D wasn't over the top. I wish hulu had it in HD. I'll just wait for the Youtube Version.

I went to 7-Eleven but they didn't have any.

    can't watch it in Canada!
  • Anthony
we have ton of them in the grocery store i manage in wisconsin... more than enough. guess small town wisconsinites aren't too thrilled about 3D. Half of them probably don't even know what it means.
  • The movie looks alright, but for some reason I can't see that 49 Foot Woman and not think of the white haired woman from The Incredibles! It's driving me insane. Don't they look a like?
  • Tallulah Lee
Delta Assault: Considering Dreamworks's track record in regards to ripping off other companies, that is likely not a coincidence.

i work at a grocery store and we were out by 4 central time easily. i grabbed some before i left luckily.

All of the female superheroes in "The Incredibles" were dark haired so they didn't copy from those characters. The only other female character in the movie was Mirage and she had blond hair and not white.

Seriously, people why is it that people always go to the ripping off theories?
  • 1. I don't have the glasses, so the gimmick is lost on me.
    2. Is there a NON 3D promo for those who, you know, are normal and don't want to sit in front of a screen with those horrible glasses on?
    3. This is on Hulu. I am not in America... but I guess that really doesn't matter for 'domestic' ticket sales. Although it is being released internationally at the same time, so...

    Meh.
  • I'm sure there will be a version that isn't 3D eventually, but not right at this moment.
  • Zach
he never said they were ripping it off, he just said he kept thinking of her. I don't blame him either because if Mirage's hair is blond like you say it's an extremely light blond to the point that it could easily be confused with being white.
  • I think he's talking about Syndrome's Assistant
  • Tallulah Lee
I think her hair is white, and yes, it's Mirage.

That being said, accusing Dreamworks of ripping Pixar off is hardly unwarranted. It's difficult to debate against them ripping off A Bug's Life and Finding Nemo, at least. Being speculative of their actions now is to be expected.

I found some glasses the day before the show. These new lenses are kind of purple and orange, and not the old red/blue like I've seen in the past. I didn't realize until after the even that the purple/blue lens (film) was blurry on all my glasses. None of us were wow'ed by the effect. Possibly because only one lens was clear enough to see out of! For the life of me, I can't understand why someone doesn't sell a comfortable optical quality eyeglass lens for viewing these movies.

I turned on my TV during this commercial and I thought my color alignment was broken again.
  • I bet alot of people did that. At first I thought something happened but than realized it was time for some 3D.
  • I thought it would be red/blue style so I wore a set and was dissapointed realizing they weren't those kind
  • I can't watch the video because I am not from US....Curse you Hulu!

And the worst part is that I have 3D glasses from the time I watched Bolt. (Those work, right?)
  • Yeah, same here. I pulled out the glasses I got with the Family Guy Blue Harvest pack... no go.
  • What a jip!
  • I heard the 3d for this was some purple thing. Not black but IDK
  • I actually found out when I was looking for the trailer in Youtube, it's some weird glasses that you could get in some stores. And after all my efforts of getting the 3D glasses out of the US, they don't work in here :(
  • Lame.
  • Lame.
  • eh. It wasn't very 3-D. And the TV spot wasn't that good either.

I was able to watch the trailer with the glasses. My friend who picked them up told me that you could only get them at Target. If you didnt get to see it with the glasses you honestly werent missing much. The trailer only contained one actual 3D effect that I can remember. Sure, there was more depth to the overall picture but frankly it was disappointing and not worth the trouble.

i had 4 that i had got free in a set at k mart.u just had to tare each one out along the dotted line.now,we were in t.g.i. fridays and altho it was slightly dark in there(and my vision aint great in the dark as it is)me,my fiance,by brother and our friend didn't see crap.mater of fact,it seemed like the coloring film was so dark,we could hardly see the damn screen.lol
  • I also had a set of 4. They were really easy to find where I live.

I watched the trailer and it was alright, the 3D wasn't as good as I was hoping for.
  • Cant see it... thats a shame..
  • Can't watch this in Australia!
  • Im in the same boat..
  • WHAT! I was looking forward to this trailer=[ sucks i cant awtch it
  • Dumb gimmick, it was probably the most useless ad.
  • It didn't really seems to have that much 3D in it.
  • Weyland_Yutani
Not a very good advertisement to watch for the majority of people without the glasses. They better hope that misinformed people aren't put off by the way the ad looks.

In any case, this 3-d gimmick must stop.
  • this movie looks okay

dreamworks is using this WAYYY too much as a gimmick. I was satisfied with what I saw in 3D in the trailer for ice age in front of Bolt. I think Katzenberger is putting WAY too much faith in 3D. I have enjoyed what 3D experiences I have had (nightmare before Christmas and Bolt). Superman 3-D at IMAX was horrible, it looked like cardboard cut outs. And this trailer in the superbowl was downright HORRIBLE. First what if people (like a lot of people on this site) didn't have glasses? And even worse, for the people that did a majority of viewers will probably assume that this is the crappy 3D that they will see in theaters and I couldn't sit through an hour and a half of that. I know that it is much better in theaters, but stop being so gimmicky. And please quit it with the lame fart jokes.

These glasses were terrible. The absolute best 3d experience I've had was watching Beowulf in RealD (I think that is what it's called). The glasses looked like something Roy Orbison would wear, but they weren't colored and the 3d was unbelievable. RealD is the only legit direction hollywood should go if they want to keep making 3d movies. All others are a waste of time and money.
  • That's how these will be shown in some theatres. Obviously, it's hard to distribute those kinds of glasses to millions of people therfore we're stuck with the red and blues for a while.
