Angels & Demons Super Bowl Ad

A new television advertisement for Ron Howard’s big screen Da Vinci Code prequel adaptation Angels & Demons aired during the Super Bowl. The film still looks like nothing special. I really want this movie to be good, as I personally loved the book. But it’s becoming more and more clear that the heavy informational bits won’t translate well to the big screen. Some books just shouldn’t be adapted into films. Check out the tv spot after the jump thanks to TrailerAddict. Leave your thoughts in the comments below.

The team behind the global phenomenon The Da Vinci Code returns for the highly anticipated Angels & Demons, based upon the bestselling novel by Dan Brown. Tom Hanks reprises his role as Harvard religious expert Robert Langdon, who once again finds that forces with ancient roots are willing to stop at nothing, even murder, to advance their goals. Ron Howard again directs the film, which is produced by Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, and John Calley. The screenplay is by David Koepp and Akiva Goldsman.

When Langdon discovers evidence of the resurgence of an ancient secret brotherhood known as the Illuminati - the most powerful underground organization in history - he also faces a deadly threat to the existence of the secret organization’s most despised enemy: the Catholic Church. When Langdon learns that the clock is ticking on an unstoppable Illuminati time bomb, he jets to Rome, where he joins forces with Vittoria Vetra, a beautiful and enigmatic Italian scientist. Embarking on a nonstop, action-packed hunt through sealed crypts, dangerous catacombs, deserted cathedrals, and even to the heart of the most secretive vault on earth, Langdon and Vetra will follow a 400-year-old trail of ancient symbols that mark the Vatican’s only hope for survival.

Angels and Demons hits theaters on May 15th 2009.

  • There is a BOOM or a whoooshy-swipe sound after EVERY little thing that is said during the whole 31 seconds. I can't wait until this boom-whooshy trend in these trailers moves moves on because it is starting to become more distracting than effective. Trailers like THIS are what make the 500 DAYS OF SUMMER trailer such a breath of fresh air - even though that was a throwback to old school trailers!

Based on this teaser, I will not even be watching this for free on TV... says a lot.
  • to be honest. Peter it surprises me that you think there would be an audience here on SlashFilm for angels and demons. I've never even seen the Da Vinci Code nor care to. Is anyone here a fan?
  • Shenanigans
I'm sure it was posted for the same reason McG related news and that hack Michael Bay's trailers were posted, because it's movie related.
  • It's film news. It's Tom Hanks. It's Ron Howard. I don't care about it either but news is news and at least we're being kept up to date -- even on stuff we don't care about.

Da Vinci code really wasn't that great, but neither was the book. Angels and Demons on the other hand I thought was much more interesting and entertaining. I'm not really getting my hopes up on it, but I might give it a chance.
  • I'm not a die hard fan, I haven't read either of the books, but I have watched The Da Vinci Code. It was alright, wasn't worth all the fuss everyone was giving it. I guess I did like it enough to watch this one though.
  • Agreed. I enjoyed the DVC, but this trailer made the next film look quite boring in my opinion. I don't care to watch it, and won't be surprised if it takes a hit on the Tomometer compared to its predecessor.
  • I didn't enjoy the 'Da Vinci Code' film at all, despite thoroughly enjoying the book, so Ron Howard has a lot to live up for to me to recreate 'Angels & Demons'. Also, was I the only one that hated that voice-over on the teaser?
  • I had my speakers all the way up so that little girl screaming just sort of made me not want to watch it.

I never liked the Da Vinci Code book nor the flick that they made, but I'd see this one just because I think I saw Ewan McGregor. Where the hell has he been?
  • the da vinci code was decent, but not what it could have been, but angels and demons was definitely a better and more entertaining book.

im not entirely sure about this, but i thought i heard that instead of keeping this one a prequel (chronologically, not thematically) like the book, they are just making it a straight sequel..for some reason that irks me...does it anyone else?
  • the way they make it sound to people who wouldnt really know is that this is a sequel to the davinci code. maybe its just the way i hear it but what ev.

    looks allright though
  • true

i think it looks cool. i'd follow macgregor to any theater.
  • Well, you gotta give em credit... they did manage to slightly improve Tom Hanks' hair from the previous movie.

It is not a sequel, its a prequel, Angels & Demmons happens just before. I've always believed that this book is more adaptable to a movie than DaVinci Code. It talks about the large Hadron Collider before I knew it existed, the conclave before John Paul II was dead. The plot for the ending is more like a "telenovela" and that is why it will be a success with the masses. Do not discard going to see it because it might suprise you. Oh and if you didn't like this trailer look for the previous one its more interesting.
  • Im so looking forward to this film. I read the book over a year ago and was thinking how great it would be to see this on the big screen. I didnt mind Da Vinci Code, but this film looks like its going to be much better.
  • I didnt see the da vinci code! And i dont think ill see this either! Didnt tom hanks get paid 56 mil for this?
  • I thought that this looked pretty good. I think I'll be watching it but I would definitely like to see more footage.
  • I'm just not too excited about this film.
  • Even though I hear great things about the books, especially Angels & Demons....I still can't even pretend to care about these movies...just no desire to *shrug*

Angels and Demons is indeed more action than The Da Vinci code. That movie was all talk, this one is all action, chases, branding and even jumping off from exploding helicopters. I hope its translated into the movie well. Yeah, you're right its a prequel.
