Sneak Peek: GI Joe Super Bowl Teaser

Paramount Pictures premiered a 10 second preview of the G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Super Bowl commercial during Friday’s Entertainment Tonight. I know it’s just ten seconds, but it’s an impressive ten seconds. It’s easy to make something that flies by with fast cuts look good, I can’t wait to actually see some of this at normal speed. Check it out after the jump, and please share your thoughts in the comments below.

Can't say I was a fan of the toys, but this preview looks interesting....definitely gonna check this out
  • TEAM AMERICA: NO STRINGS ATTACHED
  • I'm loving it!
  • Oh man, was that Iron Man?!
  • It doesn't look that bad; I mean from that small glipse. I think people are just too hard on ti. It's suppose to be cartoony, in a good way. I hope.

Seems a bit too ADD for me. I keep freeze framing the teaser and looking at the ridiculous costumes. You don't notice it at the normal pace that it goes by, but if you really take a look, you will notice how ridiculous everything is. I have a feeling the super bowl teaser is going to be awesome, but I have friends at the studio who have seen it and have told me its a clunker, and they really wanted it to be great.
  • You have friends who seen it?
  • gah
You clearly don't need a studio insider to know that this will suck. I hate to judge a film before i see it, but we're talking GI Joe here folks. Nuff said.
  • AndyRcknRll
Yeah, I don't know what these others guys are smoking, but this looks like shit
  • Anon, care to elaborate on what your friends said? I might have heard similar comments third hand. Wondering what exactly you've heard?
  • looks entertaining
  • ugh it reminds me of transformers... just awful
  • lukeg37
looks like there might be some cool action sequences. I agree costumes look incredibly stoopid! However snake eyes is the shit. What I don't get though is why bother making snake eyes look right when you go a fuck up cobra commander. WTF?? I mean really?
  • THANK YOU!
  • Mmm. Remember it's only 9 seconds of a 2 hour movie! That's what I call prejudice

I don't have anything for or against this movie, but you'll at least need to wait to see a trailer. Peter Sciretta comments on the film because he most probably have seen it, but what about you?

I was excited when this movie was announced, but then i read the cast list and the only one i agree with is Ray Park as Snake Eyes, everyone else is just a tool to get teenage girls to see it, Channing Tatum??? c'mon that guy is not an actor, his an Ambercrombie model for fuck sake, he cannot act.

THen I saw the little stand they had at comic-con and was supremely put off by it's spaceship, pod looking thing. I was like, Where the fuck is this in GI Joe?? Then I saw the posters... these costumes belong in Iron Man, like everyone already pointed out. Where's the classic uniform? what happened to classic good guy bad guy, why does every speck of armor have to look like Tony Stark had a hand in it????? What does advantage do you have wearing over 70lb of metal unless you're Iron Man? You couldn't move, it's just stupid. You know the Colonial Marines in Aliens still rank as the coolest armor and gun slinging military force in film history, why can't we go back to that look, patriotic, yet so unbelievably badass!

Ok, Cobra Commander looks like he hopped off of Power Rangers... I'm sorry, I love Power Rangers from way back when, but CC should look menacing and evil and he just looks like your average guy at Comic Con.

This 10sec preview looks really dumb. Just finish Transformers and Iron Man 2 and Star Trek and we'll have a good summer, we don't need any more pieces of our childhood violently raped.

Having said that, we'll see what the full trailer brings, but I think it looks like crap.

PS: At least they got Snake Eyes right. Channing Tatum, you do not deserve the honor of playing Duke, you're 29, Duke should be a mature leader in his late 30's. Go to hell Channing Tatum.
  • You'll be happy to know that James Cameron is bringing back the Colonial Marine look in Avatar
  • i heard, and thats the only thing that excites me about that movie besides the fact that it's Cameron
  • Yeah I think the movie will be along the lines of Transformers, mindless fun action. I am actually looking forward to this. I like that over the top sci fi action thing they are going for, and I love world domination stories. Its got an awesome cast- Dennis Quaid, Joesph Gorden Levitt, Sienna Miller, Ray Park, and Mr. Echo from Lost! Though I am not a Stephen Sommers fan because I hate Van Helsing but enjoyed the Mummy. I just hope the fast action cutting in the ad isn't in the movie, but I am sure they just tried to fit a lot in the ad.
  • The producer for Transformers and GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra is the same guy: Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, so expect a few similarities.
  • Fuck yeah!
Whatever all the haters say, it looks AWESOME!
  • optimusprime
    agree 100 percent
  • it's all down to, if this CGI environment works or not...I wish he did more in camera stuff 20% is very little footage to work with...
  • Chris, could u please go into detail of what you have heard. Like how bad is it? Did they see a rough cut? Can it be fixed? Damn it man speak, Speak!
  • from what I know of G.I. Joe they have a lot of action scenes and little speaking/story....so it's hard to cut a movie with that dragging it down...if you're talking Avatar the whole thing feels like a classified document nothing really is known without assumption...I just hope they start this miracle marketing campaign or theaters won't agree to the whole 3D aspect and install the new equipment needed in time...

if the movie can't be enjoyed in 2D what's more important the experience or quality of the movie?
  • Yeah I'm talking GI Joe. I actually heard the script was really good so I am surprised to hear its got a weak story. Also I heard that Avatar was actually post poned because Cameron was having post production issues, and not because they wanted to wait until more 3D projectors were installed.
  • Well Cameron can pretty much do whatever he wants with his films at this point...it could be he scrapped the environment and changed a bunch of things....all I know is that he could be releasing more behind the scenes images since all that live-action footage was finished a while back...I'd like to know what Weaver's character and lab looks like...he's just being a ego maniac only releasing images of himself...to be honest I know what the man looks like I don't need him in every image
when it comes to 3D he's been talking non-stop and promoting
the media so I think he can make mistakes if focusing on that single aspect....traditionally the "uncanny valley" has hindered an audience to like or connect with CGI characters...which this movie will be full of...
  • Yeah, I know the movie is about a 11 months a way but he has got to show us something soon. I would fucking love to see some concept art. I also think Avatar is going to be the first movie not to use 3D as a gimmick but will take full advantage of 3D.
  • I agree it won't be a gimmick but the CGI characters themselves could ruin the movie...it's a big gamble
  • yeah that's my biggest issue with it. I love old fashion filmmaking with sets, props, and costumes, and Cameron always struck me as one of those filmmakers... but after this... i don't know.
  • his one saving grace is that he is the definition of a modern filmmaker....so I trust him two make it a memorable movie experience...it's just unnerving without footage
  • Couldn't have said it better myself. Well put.
  • I can't get hype over no minor blinks of flippin' man. All the slow mo, breaking glass, shotgun blasting ninjas can't make up for a wack story.

But like anything and everything: We'll see.
  • He only did the first two Mummy movies, the second one wasn't nearly as bad as that hack Rob Cohen's third movie.
  • Yeah 2 was at least bearable, but yeah Cohen's was aweful
    total agree with you
  • Its the power suit thingys that we saw every one wearing. One thing the old cartoon did have alot stuff like that. I had the space suit toys of duke and destro. They had arm cannons think like samus from metroid.
  • hahahahahaha
  • thomas040
    C.G.I. Joe....

Screw it, the fact that they are wearing Batman-esque supersuits and having Cobra Commander not wear his trade mark hood mask because it's too evil are just a number of reason this movie might suck. Yes I said might, and the little snippet does look good. But there are movies out there where the trailers and little promotional snippets are much more better than the actual film itself.

the fact that Paramount is behind it, gives me hope. Might turn out to be good - god willing, we'll see S.Miller in tight leather suits in the sequels.

i've been ragging on this from day one...but dammit that actually did look cool.
  • filmkid
its amazing alot of people was saying this movie going to be rubbish when they saw a new poster, now they saying it awsome when they see the trailer. people should not judge the poster so quick until you see the trailer plus Paramount Pictures been doing alot of good movies.
  • LOL nah, most people still think it will be shit but this just gives a lot of people more hope that it won't be... like me!
  • TDKFS
Think back to February of 2004. The Van Helsing trailer "actually looked kind of cool", too.
  • I totally collected the SHIT outta' some G.I. Joes back in the day, but even as a kid I thought the show was kinda boring. This has potential to be decent I guess, but I don't really care how much they "stick to the story"
  • Fartie Lange
    that looked cool

i REALLY hop those pics from yesterday were fake though!
  • danield6
I think this snippet sure did change (somehow) everybody's outlook towards the film and I believe it doesn't deserve all the negative feedback. I don't mind seeing The Spirit and Dragonball axed TFO but this is definitely different. Let's just have faith in this and let's not forget about the nice cast.

Sure it won't be great film, but I'm sure it's entertaining nonetheless.
  • joshi38
I'm not seeing this being any better than Transformers... I do see it being better than the crap we've been expecting though.

That said, there's not a lot one can take from a 10 second clip... even if it was awesome. Perhaps there's only 10 seconds in the whole movie that are that awesome and it's spread out throughout.

They fixed the title pretty fast.
