Could we see Optimus Prime take on many futuristic robots of the Terminator franchise? I doubt it, but Michael Bay seems to think its a good idea.

“I would love to see my robots take on Terminators,” writes Bay on his online message board, after admitting that he’s “excited to see Terminator [Salvation]” and “really loves this whole franchise”, especially “the work of Bale.”

I agree that the idea is completely ridiculous. But if you had asked me 15 years ago if Freddy would ever fight Jason in an actual movie, I would have said no. Same goes with the war between Predator and Aliens. Both series made for fun comic book stories, but I never, ever, expected Hollywood to bring the crossovers to the big screen.

So the question is — Would you be interested in seeing the Transformers take on the Terminators in a big screen movie?

Thanks to /Film reader Timelordthewhite for the tip.

  • I really hate Michael Bay.
  • Hey, who doesn't? He's just trying to hitch his bandwagon to as much free press as he can. It's a really silly idea.

Besides, GORT would destroy them both.
  • He good for what he does. But he is a fucking ass.
  • transformers would beat the Terminator ass..hands down
  • It'll never happen. But I suppose it would be cool to look at. I can't think of how Transformers invading earth would fit into Terminators complex timeline.
  • They come down in the future.
Autobots of course help the Resistance.
The Decipticons either help the Terminators, or are a 3rd party to the war.
A 3 way war could be cool.
And this film could be good.
    But I highly doubt it.

the idea has peaked my interest. your right about it being impossible to do without fu***ng up the Terminator timeline, but it is an interesting concept. it might work as a comic though

  • cat
that would be awesome! it could and should happen.
  • Man Michael Bay always knows how to come across like such a douche. I mean does anyone here think Transformers will be better then T4? I mean T4 will probably be a fun cool movie with a brain, while I'm sure Transformers 2 will be just like the first Transformers-dumb fun.
  • From the director of the Charlie's Angels series comes a $100 million budgeted action movie with a brain.

In all seriousness though, T3 didn't have much of a brain and I really don't see any depth in the trailers for T4. I just think Bay feels guilty for the dumbass remark he made a week or two ago.
  • But Jonathan Nolan did some re-writes and it has Christian Bale. Also McG admits T3 wasn't good and that it was mindless. So I think its fair to say that he isn't looking to make a mindless action movie.
  • I don't think anyone sets out to make a mindless action movie intentionally. Speaking of, Reign of Fire had Christian Bale too.

But the movie isn't out yet, so let's see.
  • LOL well all of Bay's action movies end up mindless and most of them haven't been fun. Also Reign of Fire was a while a go and Bale I guess is really picky on movies he does, I mean he hasn't made a mediocre or bad movie in a while so he seems to only want to work on projects he thinks will be good.
  • I usually enjoy Bay's stuff on a mindless fun level. Aside from Armageddon and The Island, I really don't see anything wrong with his body of work. He won't have a shining legacy but he's done more than I have.

But yeah, I'm hoping T4 is good. I'm guaranteed to spend $8 of my cash on it, so of course I want to enjoy it to some degree.
  • I liked Transformers and The Rock, those were fun I thought. I didn't like Bad Boys and The Island, and I think Pearl Harbor, Bad Boys II, and Armageddon suck. So I have only liked two of his movies.
  • Whoa, I forgot Pearl Harbor. That movie did suck balls.
  • A full movie would be kind of weird, but as a faux trailer or a short thing it would be awesome.
  • Its safe to say I hope Micheal Bay doesn't get anymore of his wishes fulfilled.

They are not your robots Mr. Bay, they are robots from our childhood which you continue to ruin.

    Fo Real, G!

It is my belief that Mr. Bay lives in an "Opposite World" -- a land parallel to ours in which good and common sense cannot survive. Therefore, my thought process is thus: "Whatever Michael Bay thinks, I must assume the opposite is true". It's a simple "If/Then" situation.

So, no, Transformers should not fight Terminators...
  • Dwight
It rather think it's a NOT situation...
  • rnl
I would see it if he didn't direct it.
  • Interested in seeing it? Yes. Do I think it will be worth my time? Hell no.
  • jason B
if anything, it'll end up being one of the 'shorts' during an MTV movie awards, where prime & a terminator present an award or something like that - though even that is unlikely.

i don't care what anyone says, micheal bay has the greatest job on the planet, and has fun with it.

and everybody knows that Transformers would kick the living shit out of Terminators.
  • Zinc
Well, nice to know he likes Bale.
  • starscream9289
    BAYSPLOSIONS BAH BLOOM!!!!!!!
  • Jon
I would prefer to watch the Terminator take on Johnny 5.
  • filmkid
guys the real battle should be Robocop vs Terminator
  • "my robots"

    I stopped reading there.
  • lpfanaddy
No. Michael Bay is a tard and needs to fire whoever the cinematographer was for the first Transformers movie so that hopefully his future movies won't look like they were shot by a 10 year old.
  • To badly quote my favorite mathematician, "Everyone's so concerned with whether or not they could, they never stop to ask if they SHOULD."

In this case, no... no they shouldn't.
  • D.A.
some of you guys are ridiculous...transformers 2 is gonna be fuckin epic...and the majority of you are gonna be the dudes standing in line on wednesday/thursday on opening night for both terminator and transformers..
  • Ok, I will comment on just this concept as opposed to commenting on how much I like or dislike each individual franchise.

This is a ridiculous idea for sure, but it could be fun. Look, Freddy vs Jason was a bad movie, but it was a fun one. It was cool to see the two of them throwing down. So in that regard, I think it would be freaking sweet to see a Transformers/Terminators throwdown. I would never expect oscar caliber film making here, but if you go to it just expecting to see some cool F/X and to possibly see a childish fantasy being played out on the big screen, you may actually enjoy it. But if you go expecting to see a fine piece of cinema, then yes, it will suck.
  • Its funny how people say "it will never happen"...i agree with you peter...you never thought that aliens, predators, freddy and jason wouldnt fight. I feel that around the time of transformers 3 and termintator 5 they might make a spinoff "Vs" movie
  • Ugh, someone please stop him now. He's got the mind of an adolescent. I can remember playing that game with my friends growing up. "Who would win in a fight, Frankenstein's monster or Lurch? J.C.V.D. or Steven Segal? Stallone or Willis? the robot from Short Circuit or the robot from Robocop?

Imagination is a fun thing but it in no way means it should be made into a movie. Besides, both franchises have hordes of fanboys/girls that would be irreconcilably pissed off if their 'side' lost. Think of if they did a legitimate Star Wars vs. Star Trek film and one side actually won over the other. There'd be costumed fanboy riots in the theaters.
  • I don't put anything past Hollywood these days. Would I watch a Transformers Vs Terminator film? No. Would it make money? Yes. Yes it would.
  • Yeah but then what?
  • I hate this gossip too.
  • krakit
Absolutely! I would love to see huge robots fighting!
That's what Transformers is all about. Robots. Fighting.

Of course there are great fights and there are fights
that don't reach greatness, so whoever writes the
story where these robots meet better do an
excellent job at giving them a reason to fight
(which shouldn't be hard in my opinion) and
then to make sure the actual fighting takes
robot fighting up to another level above what
    we've seen already.
  • BlakTyger
What could be cool is "Borg vs Terminators".
Borg would kick the hell outta them
  • Now there's an idea I can get behind
  • fatherbradley
Bay was just jokingly answering some stupid question he was asked, hardly worth posting it as a "question" for us to chew on. Retard.
  • fatherbradley
I take that back. I just read the actual posting from Bay's blog site. Still he's just talking out of his ass.
  • I think they should add some Cylons and battle droids and R2D2 and any other robot ever. The name will be "Worst Movie Ever."
  • Brian
he would like to see HIS robots? HIS? Umm no you dumbass Bay they're not yours...you ruined them, but they're not yours.
This guy needs to take a hike.
  • (_)_)))))))))))))D ---- - - M. Bay --_____

In a film industry that has given us Alien Vs. Predator because , you know, *we wanted it* (note: sarcasm), yeah, I can see some dipshit studio head greenlighting it; and worse, it making money, thus forever tainting one great franchise with another mediocre one. Paul Anderson or Len Wiseman will direct.
