/Filmcast Ep. 35 - Towelhead (GUEST: Stephen Tobolowsky)

In this episode of the /Filmcast, Dave Chen, Devindra Hardawar, and Adam Quigley discuss their thoughts on this year’s deeply unsatisfying Oscar nominations, reflect on the intellectual bankruptcy of a Tom and Jerry movie, and vehemently debate the merits of Alan Ball’s Towelhead. We’re joined by special guest and /Filmcast favorite, actor Stephen Tobolowsky promoting the new Blu-Ray release of Groundhog Day.

Join us next week on Monday 9 PM EST / 6 PM PST as we review Taken with Liam Neeson. As always, feel free to e-mail us at slashfilmcast[AT]gmail.com or call us at (781) 583-1993.

  • You guys kind of already reviewed Taken though, but since you guys said you liked it and are doing a review then I'll give it a look. Do you guys know yet if you'll be reviewing Friday the 13 in 2 weeks? Also will Coraline be the next review after Taken?
  • Tentative schedule:
    Monday February 2 - Taken
    Monday February 9 - Coraline
Monday February 16 - The International
  • Cool, thanks... Don't review The International! That looks so bad Dave, Friday the 13th looks like it actually will be fun. Do you just want to do The International because you have a thing for Naomi Watts. Also Dave I don't know if you got my email, but I wanted to say thanks for howling about the Pusher trilogy. I watched them on watch instantly and they were awesome.
  • The International trailers look like crap, but it's Tom Tykwer man. He hasn't made a bad film yet!
  • Yeah he is a good director, though I wasn't a fan of Perfume. I think Friday the 13th comes out the week after Coraline and the week before International. So you guys should definitely review it.
  • Also, Naomi Watts.
  • Ahaha man, you really like Naomi Watts. Something tells me she is the only reason you enjoyed Funny Games.
  • I could listen to Mr. Tobolowsky talk about film on a weekly basis. And I hope he becomes a regular guest on the /filmcast.
  • It would be awesome if Tobolowsky could do his own small review for a new film on /film. That would be fantastic.
  • ok, so obviously this is the stupidest question ever, but I haven't listend to the podcast yet - "we review Taken with Liam Neeson". You're not, right? Because, I hear he doesn't take criticism well - based on what his character DOES in Taken.
  • It seems like they are having Liam Neeson on the show from that sentence. I doubt it though.
  • Jon
Please don't review The International, it looks so dull. Friday the 13th would be a better choice.
