Was I the only person that was somewhat disappointed when they first found out that Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill epic would be split into two films? Of course, the split certainly helped Miramax recoup their considerable investment in the film, but Kill Bill: Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 always felt like two halves of a whole, rather than independent films (probably because they were originally intended to be one). Tarantino apparently felt the same way, and many months ago, he announced the upcoming DVD, Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair (Amazon link to the unavailable product here), which would reunite the two films into the original, single film that debuted at Cannes. Of course, like many of the projects that Tarantino talked about, as the weeks and months flew by, I started to lose faith that such a project would actually come to pass.

Now, according to Tarantino.info, it seems like we might actually get the version of Kill Bill that Quentin always wanted for us. As you may imagine, Tarantino has been busy with a little project called Inglourious Basterds, but Tarantino claims that the longer version is still on the way. Not only that, there’s going to some extra content on the DVD:

We’ve actually added some things to it. We did a whole little chapter that I wrote and designed for the animated sequence, that we never did, because we figured, back when it was gonna be one big movie, it was going to be too long, so we didn’t do it. So when we were talking about re-releasing it, they asked is there anything you can put in, and I said no I put everything in there, but… there’s one sequence that we wouldn’t even have to shoot! So we got together with Production IG and did it, and it’s really cool. So it’s this little seven minute sequence, it’s really cool, it’s in the O-Ren chapter.

Tarantino.info also has an interesting breakdown about the differences in the uncut film, courtesy of Empire. With all these changes, plsu the new footage, I think the film will feel significantly different, and I’m looking forward to the newer and hopefully quintissential Kill Bill experience that this DVD might bring with it.

Discuss: Would any of you still buy Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair?

  • The news of an animated sequence came out months ago, I remember Uma Thurman talking about it. Man, I remember this was suppose to come out like November of '07. I wouldn't be surprised if this comes out along side Inglorious Basterds.
  • of course... that would be brilliant marketing!
  • believe it or not ive actually seen TWBA but I can't believe tarantino wants to release it!!! last i heard it was dead, this just made my day
  • this could reinvent the whole kill bill experience, and frankly-
if its tarantino then why the fuck not?
  • Ryan Foley
I'm a huge fan of Volume 2. I do not like Volume 1. I think seeing the two of them as one could make me appriciate Volume 1 more.
  • usually its the other way around...
  • Yeah, that's what I hear from most people, too.

If it was one whole movie I think my asfavorite part would be the midle with the final fight at THOBL and the training sequence with Pai Mei.

Kill Bill was probably one of the most entertaining and fun cinematic experiences in the last decade. Like Jackie Brown, it as a whole isn't fully appreciated. Maybe TWBA will change some minds.
  • Are you kidding? of course I'll fucking buy it! This is why I never bought the single disc editions. I've been holding out forever for this!
  • me too.
  • The FilmFreak
    Yes, Yes, YESSSSS!
  • I'd buy it only because I still haven't picked up vol. 2
  • i havent even bought the DVDs... *blush*
  • did you not buy them bacause you were angry?
  • Grid Blyton
definately...i hope they include the michael jai white deleted scene from volume 2
  • It should be included.
  • I like the scene by itself. i think if it was left in the movie it might be a little too ummm....vanguard for the masses. The throataslice was excellent though
  • sounds good to me. looks like my brother will be getting my old single-disc editions for his birthday this year.
  • Enthropii
    LOL.
    I'd probably get it.
  • I wats thinking the SAME thing. Giving them to my friend who always has questions about QT for me.
  • gah
I'm more excited about an Inglorious Basterds teaser trailer.
  • yeah, ur telling me... I want to see it so badly as well.
  • It should be here soon if I know the Weinsteins.

    $$$$ Money $$$$$
  • I've waited about 4 1/2 years to get this movie on DVD. I waited all this time to buy both movies in one set, regardless of whether it was one whole movie or just both movies in a dual-flick set. You better believe I'm buying this set when it comes out!
  • This is my favorite film, so of course I would.
  • My favorite film of the decade for sure.
  • After seeing both, it always did seem to me that the continuity was off a bit, and that somehow these were sliced and diced into two separate films. I guess I was right.
  • QT always has the timeline rearranged so it worked out well for QT and the studio.
  • I have the used DVDs of both Kill Bills, and I definitely think the splitting of the film made the quality and tone of the two films uneven (in my opinion, Volume One is better than Volume 2), so hopefully the TWBA DVD will strengthen the second half of The Bride's story.
  • hoffamania
I'd buy that for a dollar
  • youmustbe14
    I'm sure you would.
  • yeah boi
    LOL ROBOCOP
  • k-man
Robocop reference is all too true, the movies aren't worth much more than that. Tarantino lost his touch begining with this and hitting rock bottom with the snoozefest called "Death Proof"
  • silly snake
you are so so very wrong. kill bill is my favorite by tarantino.
  • Lost his touch? Far from it. Tarantino killed with Kill Bill. (no pun intended)
  • i hope they make a blu ray too, that is a must for blu
  • Thats my only hope
  • i wont pick it up if its not on blu-ray
  • This is a great idea. I will be buying this for sure. I loved boths films.
  • I'm totally down for the blu ray. keeping fingers crossed!
  • It should be Blu-Ray only. It's time the format had something totally kickass being an exclusive.
  • AGREED! Omg best idea ever!
  • I'm with Skyy and I second that notion
  • no wave
    no way, blue ray elitist!
  • I bought both films on Blu-ray already. I'm not being elitist, but you can't stop the inevitable. If it isn't this, it will be something else that a lot of people want (maybe not everyone though).
  • JP Dyno
+1, Ive got the two singles on DVD, I will be this epic experience on bluray
  • Of course I'd buy it. This is why I've held out on buying it. I'm still holding out hope for a complete release of Grindhouse.
  • i've given up on that one. managed to get both movies (in their 2 disc sets) for $8 each during the holidays. i'm content with that. even if the original 3 1/2 hour cut is better.
  • Blu ray isn't even a big thing for me either since they deliberately made the film grainy.
  • I'll buy it.

The way I understand it, Weinstein didn't want to do the Affair DVD because the single Volume DVDs never sold enough to warrant pressing the Affair DVD. But most people didn't buy the single Volumes because the rumor of the Affair DVD has been out there forever. Each side is waiting for the other to do something.
  • I bought the japanese edition where the whole blue-leaves scene is colored. Lets hope that TWBA is not b/w and we see every arm-chop-off that made the japanese edition so special
