Earlier today I got a tweet from Erik Davis of Cinematical fame laughing about a secret website called GhostSpy which claims to have footage from the set of Ghostbusters 3.

Yes, they are shooting it already. And yes, I am part of the crew. And no, I won’t tell any details. Because if I do and they find out, they will kill me.

Problem is, as far as we know - Ghostbusters 3 hasn’t been given the greenlight and is still in the process of screenplay development. But the footage does show a big film production in New York City, and a scene where they crush a Taxi Cab which has a 555-phone number on the side.

There is also another video of some early effects shot of some kind of creature, who is made out of a collage of trash (think Katamari Damacy).

I have no doubt this is fake, as it’s just too perfect to be real. But now I’m curious to what it might actually be. Sony just announced that Ghostbusters is being released on Blu-ray in mid-June, along with the new Atari video game. Is there any chance that this footage is from the production of a commercial for the game/blu-ray release? And this is just a viral to get fans excited and talking? If anyone has any information as to what this is all about, please shoot me an e-mail.

  • It does seem a little fishy. Lets see where this goes in the next couple days.

  • most likely viral but I did think that trash monster was pretty cool...I just think when they make the 3rd installment they should focus on the comedy and not the effects...that was the 2nd film's downfall....
  • yeah this is totally fake. the camerawork on both vids is too shaky for its own good, if you know what i mean.

and the trash monster thing looks, imho, ridiculous, but even if its real its just pre-vis stuff

what? effects were the 2nd flicks downfall? i dont think so at all, both of the ghostbuster movies were awesome! with maybe the first one edging a bit ahead just because

This would have never gotten past the trades or the blogs. Sorry, it's impossible to be that secretive in todays modern world.
  • I meant they took the original script according to Bill Murry and cut out a lot jokes and story to involve more Ghouls and special effect shots..It's "downfall" that nobody really wanted to come back until now....
  • this is a movie blog..lol and Peter noticed it
  • ltclarke
I wouldn't be surprised if this is from the same folks, that fakes the KITT car being stolen, to promote the new Knight Rider tv series.
  • Kyle
I like how at the end of the first video the camera is "found." I can't wait for GB on Blu and hopefully another movie.
  • pistol peter
Murray, Aykroyd, Ramis and Hudson are the only ghostbusters. I don't want any pass off or new kids and sure as hell want no part of rogen! But of course my opinion is inconsequential.
  • Extremely fake, "Hey, what's this?" "Nothing"
  • The clip with the taxi is fake. No company in their right mind would do a stunt like that for real (in other words they wouldn't risk crushing a cab for real if there's a chance the stuntman couldn't get out in time, they would film them separately and combine in post).

I'm thinking it's a viral for something completely unrelated to Ghostbusters. The "creature" clip for some reason makes me think it's a commercial.

    Trans-Trasher, Garbage in Disguise...
  • I'm almost positive that I have seen that trash monster clip somewhere else online. Keep your eyes peeled. I also highly doubt this is for Ghostbusters.
  • I agree. This is probably fake. The part when the guy "finds" the camera was totally staged. But the garbage monster looks kinda cool/promising.
  • garbage looked cool but it definitely looked really fake compared to most special effects.
  • dr. pepper
i don't think it was a finished product. i doubt they'd leave the shadow and loads of other details out like that in the final version

assuming that this is part of the movie of course
  • damn, you have to be an idiot to believe this shit is real.
  • but the garbage monster looks cool/promising, dude are you for real. your expectations for the new ghostbusters movie must be real low.
  • david.ctbc@gmail.com
I really think it's for the video game. Ghostbusters 3 is in the scripting stage, but I dont even think it has been greenlit yet.
  • my bad
damnit. i accidently left my e-mail address in the 'name' box. please delete if possible!
  • Seems viral to me.
  • why is such an obviously fake video being debated?? i know that doesn't speak to the quality of these filmmaker's work....

this was probably put out as a litmus test to see how well received new entries into the ghost buster's franchise would be.

personally i'm all for an apatow inspired cast. in spite of how much they've saturated the comedy market, let's not forget that the reason why they were all so well received in the first place is because they are actually funny and they actually seem to want to be entertaining.

Coincidentally, I watched Ghostbusters 2 just before checking /film for updates right now. And that movie sucked. And the first one, honestly, I didn't think was all that special... definitely entertaining and enjoyable, but not the classic people say it is. Does ANYBODY think that they should Mutt Williams this franchise?
  • skippy
    dang, you're doomed.
  • Dinner
Maybe they are filming a teaser trailer.
  • Why are we even sure its Ghostbusters, this could be any new film being made.Just because they post it on their Ghost site, doesnt make it a Ghostbusters Film.

This looks like a deleted scene from Adams Sandlker BedTime Stories Movie

    BWAHAHA
It's funny how serious and totally oblivious your actual comment is; it's the internet equivalent of having your pants down.

    Student work. Trust me.
  • edc
students with enough cash to total a taxi, shoot on what looks like a real street and add a garbage monster?

    this is for the videogame.
  • Viral movie for the game and or bluray
  • Dustin Ravize
C'mon you guys, Cloverfield 2, it's completely obvious!
  • Yeah definitely not a new Ghostbusters, so, beyond that, I could care less.
  • edc
I thought this could be for the videogame, but I think its actually for the camera.
  • agliarept
Hi, sorry to break it to you guys but this is for the game. Its simple, fine im a nerd, anyway in the GB game, monsters can be formed from different objects and you have to kill them/trap them to move on. there's a monster JUST LIKE THIS, in the game in one of the trailers. Hence this shitty monster in the video. So yea, this is a ghosbusters video being shot, FOR THE GAME. its the commercial or in game footage. but it is for the game, look up videos about the game and you will see exactly the same thing. i know this to be true 100% thanks for reading me.

weird thing is that imdb.com states that ghostbusters 3 is "in production". they usually state very clearly in what state of production an upcoming film is. regardless i'll keep checking the spy's blog, cause whatever it is - looks like some cool shit!
  • tkk
WTF? Maybes some 2nd unit stuff they're shooting up front??!? Looks promising.
  • It would not surprise me if this was simply viral marketing for the Ghostbusters Blu-Ray/Video Game or another new film that will be announced soon. Then again, we can all hold on to the very, very, very, very faint sense of hope that it is Ghostbusters 3...
  • electedgod
    hahaha its a car commercial!
  • Joe
This is a import car comercial....Look on YOUTUBE
  • Jimmy
Yep. Its from a Citron ad. I just seen it on tv here in the uk
  • Goulbert
