Superbowl Film Advertising

Variety confirms that Paramount will premiere the first footage from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen during SuperBowl XLIII on February 1st 2009, forgoing the traditional theatrical teaser trailer route. Other high profile film advertising spots might include Star Trek, G.I. Joe, Angels and Demons
Monsters vs. Aliens
(90-second 3D trailer), Land of the Lost, Fast and Furious, Up, Race to Witch Mountain, and Wolverine.

Surprisingly, Warner Bros. hasn’t bought a television spot despite having a great line-up of films that would appeal to the Superbowl crowd: Terminator Salvation, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Watchmen.

And remember, the Academy Awards will allow film advertising for the first time in the first time in Oscar telecast history, and many expect the premiere of exclusive trailers during that telecast as well.

  • I can't wait for the Transformers trailer!
  • I can't wait to see the Monsters vs. Aliens trailer in 3D... so cool to see what's going on in the 3D world. And I'm sure they'll do a cool Lenticular cover when it comes out on vdieo. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090105/ap_en_mo/film...
  • its too bad they cant just release the SuperBowl without the game, just the ads and trailers and whatnot

well, i guess thats why TiVo was invented, and now i know to DVR the Superbowl

Wow !, this is awesome and way better than last years line up. I just wish we also got a Terminator: Salvation spot or even a Watchmen spot. But, it's all good, because atleast we get some spots from films we haven't seen much of anyway.
  • i just want to see something of jgl in the gi joe movie. that's the only thing about that film that interests me.
  • A nice couple of promotional bonuses for the film industry this year - SuperBowl and the Oscars. Let's hope it actually works.

Also, I just thought about all the crap Warner Bros. is going through now with Fox and the Watchmen trial ,so I bet they really don't wan't to spend anymore major marketing money for a film that might not even come out, but hopefully if they win the trial they will change their minds. If anything I hope theirs atleast a spot for Watchmen because Terminator and Harry Potter don't really need any major promotion pushes to be sucessful because they already have huge fanbases to drive them.

Harry Potter would appeal to the Superbowl crowd? That's...interesting.

Harry Potter would appeal to the Superbowl crowd? That's...interesting. Though the lack of Watchmen is extremely weird despite the lawsuit.
  • I'm gonna love the Superbowl even more this year...the RAVENS will be playing and winning...AND a Transformers Trailer, its all good...GO RAVENS!!! beat the dumbass titans...
  • Man all those trailers i am looking forward to! I live in Australia so hope to see them online soon afterwards
  • gah
Wow, literally no trailers that I care about. I wish this summer had an Iron Man or a Dark Knight coming out. This is going to be a long and boring summer at the movies.
  • Am I the only one who went and thought - What? Where's Avatar?

Right now it's completely unknown to the public because quite frankly they haven't shown anything from it. And the massive audience they get from Superbowl would have been perfect to show 30 seconds to a minute of the film off and get people's attentions. Maybe it's at Cameron's request as he wants to show off the film when it's definitely at certain stage of completion. Who knows. Perhaps I'm being a tad selfish as I just really want to have a peek of the film but still I think it's a little disappointing.
  • I'll be on the internet straight after watching the end of SuperBowl (being in the United Kingdom, we'll be getting adverts about car insurance and breakfast cereals...) to see the 'Transformers 2' and 'Angels & Demons' trailers, not too bothered about the rest mind.
  • Seems like the only good advertising will be for the new Transformers flick.
  • Transformers trailer is going to be awesome.
