The rumors were true: According to Beaks over at Aint It Cool News, Nick Frost and Simon Pegg are confirmed to be playing bumbling detectives Thompson and Thomson. In the original story, the two were unrelated but were thought of as twins due to their uncannily similar appearance. It’ll be interesting to see how that plays out on screen, as the film will be animated using motion capture technology.

Frost and Pegg join Andy Serkis, who has been cast as Captain Haddock. The lead character of Tintin, once filled by Thomas Sangster, has yet to be cast. Production on the first film is scheduled to begin soon, with Steven Spielberg helming the initial entry and Jackson taking on the second film. The films will be based on the Tintin books The Secret of the Unicorn and Red Rackham’s Treasure. More casting news will undoubtedly be revealed in the coming weeks but from my perspective, so far so good. What do you guys think?

  • Eh.... I'm gonna remain skeptical of this project till I see more.
  • I smell a huge flop with this... Hollywood is so fucking lame these days.
  • Both directors are brilliant but the idea sounds a bit... odd. I dont know how this could be so good. I havent read much about it but right now i'm pretty much the same as MosesMonster. ^^

'as the film will be animated using motion capture technology' you lost me right there. I'm not so excited for this one now.
  • Jimmy Mac
Yeah, I was assuming this was live-action. Does that mean it'll look like The Polar Express?
  • My concern exactly. Motion capture in the past as been lame bordering on creepy. Why Jackson and Spielberg want to use this technology baffles me.
  • It will be interesting to see Speilberg/Jackson working with these two.
  • Luke Shea
I can't believe more people aren't drooling with excitement about this! Tintin is pure, silly, childish wonder. Who better to handle that Spielberg and Jackson? They may have their flaws, but Tintin will play right into their strengths. I can't even tell you how much I'm looking forward to these.
  • Tin Tin? Ehhh....

There has to be SOMETHING a little more interestig to base an animated movie on, eight?

    Anyone?
  • I like Frost and Pegg, they are funny ass dudes...I don't think this movie will fail...
  • I've never understood why this project is such a big deal. Is TinTin that much of a staple in comics?
  • Nicke
In Sweden TinTin is the bestselling Comic of all time, excluding Donald Duck and The Phantom
  • Justin
The Secret of the Unicorn and Red Rackham’s Treasure?

TOP choice. Best of them all, and I've read and re-read them all.

Do you guys have any idea on how popular/famous TinTin is in Europe? US keep bombing us with superhero flick we never had heard of before like Ironman, Punisher, G.I. Joe and so on. Its about time TinTin is made into a bigbudget movie
  • Tin Tin = Boss
  • The sheer popularity of TINTIN in Europe (and most of South America, too) will make this a huge success. Trust me, America, the books rule. Imagine a cross between INDIANA JONES, SHERLOCK HOLMES and a bit of 60 MINUTES (Tintin is a reporter). This will be a cool movie. Hey at least Lucas isn't writing!
  • 100% agree with Ryan S. I'm pretty sure the boy reporter was/is relatively popular down here in Australia, too. I remember whiling away a rainy afternoon as a kid, eating salted peanuts and reading The Black Island cover-to-cover. Bliss.
  • Once again Simon Pegg will have to save yet another film from being crap. Even though Tin Tin is pretty Huge (not here) this doesnt look to be a winner.
  • Mikey
Awwww man. I was hoping Simon Pegg would -be- Tin Tin.
  • These films are going to rock, to be honest I think they'll be a lot better than the Uncanny Valley work of Robert Zemeckis.
If "Gollum" is anything to go by, Jackson knows how to blend motion capture WITH key frame animation and I'm sure Spielberg will make use of this knowledge too.
  • SERIOUS? TIN TIN IS HUGE i used to read it all the time! Im soo excited for this film.
However im not to sure on the non-twins but who cares these to are geniouses.
And speilberg and Jackson! SERIOUS? what can go wrong
  • Any way to get Nick and Simon back together is good thing! And any film that makes me look nostalgically back to my childhood is good thing, I remember the cold, winter mornings sat at home with my mother, my SNES on the floor in the off position as I sat patiently for the 'Adventures of Tintin' animated TV show to start...Good times!
  • Simon Pegg + Nick Frost = Pure Awesomeness.
