VOTD: TCM Remembers 2008

Turner Classic Movies put together a beautiful video montage remembering the actors, actresses, directors, writers, producers, and musicians that we lost in 2008. Eartha Kitt was probably not included because this was edited before her death. The song is “God Only Knows” by Joe Henry.

  • I love this segment during the Oscars.
  • I just hated the music.
  • Really liked it I thought the music was an interesting choice. Something a little different than many of the obvious type songs that are often used
  • Jake
    Well it made me cry.
  • I can't believe Brad Renfro and Heath are gone. So young, so soon. RIP

    that video was great.

It gave me an oppurtunity to reflect. Better than the Oscars memorials
  • When I first saw this on TV, I was utterly captivated. Thanks for posting it. It was weird, I saw it the day Van Johnson died, but I hadn't heard yet. Then he was actually already included in it! They got some editors doing fast work over there!
  • Brian
Very beautiful. It's always such a saddenning time remembering everyone who's no longer with us, but it is good to remember them because they all gave so much to us.
  • Solyaris
Nice, moving montage. Too bad they forgot to include Estelle Getty. She was a favorite of mine.
  • It always unsettles me in these videos when you get modern film clips in there because they don't jive with the old black and white stuff. This was great because how they did some colour work on the newer clips.
  • Good monatge, i´m still so sad about Roy Schneider´s death. R.I.P.
  • Nicely done.
  • Graham7x
    they forgot Sho'nuff
  • Great video, very well put together.
  • Wonderful (and very fitting) grading on this video. Interesting use of stock videography between each personality, too.
  • Oh dear...

Moving song, beautiful work. These individuals deserve to be celebrated.
  • Great video. What a wonderful group of people we lost :[. May they all rest peacefully.
  • what a great video. I'm glad something like this is made every year so we can look back and remember those we lost.

Great song to by the way.
  • Patrick O'Riley
It's still jarring to see Bernie Mac in there. I had somehow forgotten he passed away.
  • I love seeing these things, they are always so touching...
  • Beautifully done! Rest in peace
  • This was a beautiful video. I don't know any of these people, personally, but I really felt the impact of their loss with this video. So sad, but it's wonderful to remember these fine icons of the film industry.
  • i think the music was very fitting. usually the oscars tribute video has me welling up too... this had the same effect on me...

I loved seeing this today! I had no idea that some, like Sam Bottoms, had passed! Some, I didn't recognize or remember, but loved that you acknowledged them as part of the brotherhood and sisterhood that is a gift to us all. As of this day, their image is in my mind forever. Though I have only done one movie as "Lucy" in RSO's "Sargeant Pepper..." , I am encouraged that perhaps when I make my transition, I may be pictured alongside all the others who have journeyed to the other side of the stars.
