In 2007, we told you that producer Avi Arad was planning to make a movie based on the popular toy robot Robosapien. We didn’t think it would actually happen, but hey, this is the same guy who is responsible for Elektra, Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider and the Bratz movie. And with the success of Michael Bay’s Transformers, everyone was trying to recapture the box office gold with toy to movie adaptations.

Well, yes, the movie is still happening. Actually its in post production. Quiet Earth points us to the production company website for Crystal Sky, which just released a movie poster and plot synopsis for the film, Robosapien Rebooted:

An inventor working for Kinetech Labs has designed a robot for search and rescue missions that has the ability to mimic human actions and emotions. After discovering that the robot’s advanced microchip is actually going to be used by Kinetech for military applications, the inventor programs the robot to flee, whereupon it is damaged. Twelve year old Henry finds the broken robot, fixes him up and names him Cody. With no memory of his past, Cody becomes Henry’s best friend, helping him win over his love interest, battle bullies and partake in some crazy fun. Cody quickly becomes a valuable part of Henry’s family as he helps them forge better relationships with one another, and even surprises them by remodeling their home.

All the while, both the inventor and Kinetech are searching for Cody. Finally located, Cody is taken home by the inventor, to Henry and his family’s dismay. Noting how upset Cody is to be apart from his new family, the inventor brings Cody back to Henry, where he meets Henry’s mom. It’s an instant love connection. Ultimately, one step behind, Kinetech kidnaps Henry’s mom and the inventor. It’s up to Henry and Cody to save their family and take down Kinetech once and for all. Produced By Avi Arad and Steven Paul, Screenplay By Max Botkin, Directed By Sean McNamara.

Wow, sounds like a disaster of 80’s movie proportions. Robosapien: Rebooted is scheduled to hit theaters in 2009.

  • Did they just tell us the entire story? Seems like good story, Count me...nope. Nope. Couldn't finish that one. Frak that.
  • Haha, it does seem like they told the ENTIRE story...
  • badjoke
Sounds awful similar to the 80s movie 'Mac and Me'.
  • Why is this happening

I wish they had kind of gone in more of a Terminator and Chucky direction:

After [fill in event such as lightning strike, meteor shower, government accident] a warehouse full of Robosapiens awaken and decide that they will forge their own destiny separate from man. After first trying to live peacefully and being attacked by local townsfolk, the Robosapiens decide...

...they must kill all the humans they can find in the most horrible and grotesque ways possible.

Actually, responding to my own post, now that I think about it they should have gone in more of a Transformers direction. You see, it turns out that all Robosapiens are really alive, blah blah blah... have a bunch of "good" Robosapiens fighting against the "bad" ones...Some kids discover the secret... blah blah blah. It actually would be kind of fun to see Robosapiens kicking ass.

It's so easy. How do they fuck up these things?

This is a movie to sell toys. It tells boys, "Robosapian will make you popular, get you a girlfriend, "pimp-out" your house, destroy your enemies, and even, yes, fix your broken family and finally make everything OK in your life. BUY IT OR YOU WILL NEVER HAVE A FATHER/MOTHER!!!!!!!"
  • Brad
I kinda think this is a lil bit fake...if you go on the Crystal Sky website you can look at the poster for the Casltevania adaption.
  • Palmer
Please tell me that it's just some elaborate hoax...or maybe one of those ads disguised as a movie type of thing.
  • JPrime
I liked it better when it was called "Short Circuit."

    Nope, wait, no...no I didn't.
  • This has to be fake? cmon who would seriously go see that...Maybe if it was robodog;) id go see it...not
  • Arad makes a Bratz movie and now moves to Robosapien? Bet he was pissed missing out on GI Joe
  • This looks and sounds retarded.
  • Black Eagle
I can't say too much since I may be attached to the movie, but believe me, the movie is real, the poster is real, the character in the poster is the right one and yes, the PR idiots told the entire story on the Plot synopsis.
  • Black Eagle
....one more thing....If you tough that Street Fighter was bad, just wait to see what I saw on TEKKEN :(
  • In the Future all movies will have robots in them..
  • JBizz
So when does "Roomba: The Movie" come out?

Also, this movie is strangely endearing. Probably because I know the plot already, though. =P
