George Romero’s …Of The Dead Movie Trailer

Bloody Disgusting has the first promotional movie trailer for George Romero’s next zombie film “…Of The Dead“. Looks like a pretty low budget effort, but it has to be better than Diary of the Dead, right? Devonshire Productions also released the official plot synopsis for the film:

On a small island off North America’s coast, the dead rise to menace the living. Yet…the islanders can’t bring themselves to exterminate their loved ones, despite the growing danger from those the once held dear. A rebel among them hunts down all the zombies he can find, only to be banished from the island for assassinating his neighbors and friends. On the mainland, bent on revenge, he encounters a small band of survivors in search of an oasis on which to build a new life. Barely surviving an attack from a mass of ravenous flesh-eaters. They commandeer a zombie-infested ferry and sail to the island. There, to their horror, they discover that the locals have chained the dead inside their homes, pretending to live ‘normal’ lives…with bloody consequences. What ensues is a desperate struggle for survival and the answer to a question never posed in Romero’s Dead films: Can the living ever live in peace with the dead?”

…Of The Dead was a funny in-production title, but I don’t understand why they don’t just call it “Island of the Dead”, which seems let a better fit considering the story. Watch the trailer linked below.

...off the dead. Wow. Not even enough creativity in this concept to support a complete title.
  • wtf? is this his 7th or 8th of the dead film?

no wait. Theres his five ...of the dead films. Then night of the living dead... then this. Damn he must be depressed or something.
  • Like it or not, He will continue to make more and more Zombie films.
  • ...Of the dead! Cant even think of a finished title.

I dont know how you got your synopsis from that trailer! if it wasnt for your info i would have no idea what was happening.

Zombies = solve problem with guns

Gonna bring anything new to the table>

  • Personally, I liked Diary of the Dead, and I enjoy all of the dead movies that Mr. Romero makes. This one looks decent, but still to early to tell. I am betting this goes straight to DVD considering Diary of the Dead never really reached a wide release and I had to drive over 50 miles to witness what was the 4th best zombie movie of his.

This movie is going to be awesome, just like every other Romero zombie movie. yes I said EVERY ROMERO MOVIE. Deal with it world. Anyone who talks shit on this movie is going to get aids from a toilet seat.

Perhaps a legit trailer will do it justice, but so far, this doesn't look good. A crappy B, Direct-to-DVD feel is what I got out of this. I didn't like the way that it's setting makes it look like it's from the 1800s, complete with a cowboy and did some of those zombies have on Amish-like clothing? I just wish they would stop making zombie films like action films and bring them back to their horror roots, something to actually scare someone instead of wowing them. Not that the action itself isn't good, but I would like to see a change.
  • Zombies are so overrated. Vampires are way cooler anyway
  • Romero + low budget im IN,i still have a bad taste after Diary...
  • Although this looks awful, it was strangely refreshing to hear the noise of realistic bullet fire in a trailer for a change.

Lol I was thknkin the complete opposite. Looks good save for bad sound effects :P
  • Looks boring, I thought it was a comedy from the title, but the trailer is not all that funny...Zack Snyder should do another zombie movie like he did in 04...That would be awesome,,,
  • Doesn't look boring, but I'd like another Snyder...
Whilst many people didn't like that. I Loved It!

I hope the real trailer is better. The promo one looks awful, and makes the movie look like some sort of crappy straight to DVD movie (the Day of the Dead remake comes to mind). The poster looks pretty spiffy though. Oh, and I thought Diary of the Dead was an alright movie. Not Romero's best zombie flick, but I thought it was neat.

this reminds me of that farm arc in the walking dead where rick and everyone finds some super religious guy who refuses to kill the biters. i think he kept them locked up inside his barn instead? it's been a while since i read it. i thought that arc had some pretty interesting questions about the nature of ethics, and the overall human condition, in a barbaric society. this movie looks like it will not mine that sort of challenging philosophical paydirt, which is too bad because dawn of the dead is a really amazing satire.
  • With zombies outside the door, there was always an impending doom - the idea of survival and the need to live. This trailer and the premise looks like it wants to ask a sort of rhetorical question that can only be answered with gunfire.

The original zombie flick dealt with those underlying stigmas of the 60s and 70s, but with today's zombie premise there are fewer topics to dredge up. The logical (logical with zombies right?) next step is a war torn country.

If you want to see a better version of Diary of the Dead, see The Zombie Diaries. It's British movie from '06, but it didn't get released in the U.S. until '08. Don't expect it to be anything like the cover, but it's still WAAAAY better than DotD.

    Fido, anyone?
  • And Fido felt like it took a page from Shaun of the Dead... Btw, I was amazed at how cluttered and boring Fido was. Rarely do I turn off a movie before it is over.

diary of the dead was not scary or violent in any way
hopefully this new one will post some new questions
  • The trailer doesn't look good, but I'm a sucker for zombies, so I'll give most anything a chance. The last zombie flick I watched was Dance of the Dead, which was a hell of a lot of fun. It didn't give you anything new or spectacular, but it had some gore, good kills and the acting wasn't half bad.

Snyder should do a left 4 dead movie.

Ok, I have to say this, Romero may have used to be the king of Zombie movies, but the main statement here is "used to be". His movies just dont live up to the what they used to be back in the day when things were basically black and white. This is officially 2009 and with the way the economy is and all how about you throw me a couple of mil this way studios and I think I can make better zombie movies then this guy does. Like I said "he used to be the king" of zombie movies. But his direction just aint cut out for now a days. I put this along side of say, 28 days (which isnt really a zombie movie but as close as you can get) or the most recent Dawn of the Dead and I think this shit is utter garbage, straight to DVD, that I wouldnt take a second glance at the cover of. He needs to get with the program and stop making toupid comments like he did before about other movies and how "the zombies in movies shouldnt be able to run because their ankles would just break off" when in fact wouldnt there jaws break off also when they bite someone. This is a work of fiction George, and yours just aint what its cracked up to be.

Also, who really isnt ready for a zombie movie like World War Z, or for that matter the I Am Legend prequel. These movies have all the makings, especially World War Z, to be epic, awesome, great, zombie movie.... Anthony

they hired a zombie to proof read the website's synopsis.
  • Im in still yet to find one of these new zombie movie that actually looks scary..

And Peter i agree, "Island of the Dead" sounds much better..
  • hes more about charachter developement in struggle not so much the zombies its just his niche u can get into his characters easy you can like them and side with them find one that would do what you do which is his goal not for you to be like yes that shit looked real cause blood flew at the right angle or his head rolled the way it would if i cut it off
  • Anything George makes is going to be good, at least to me anyway. I can't wait to see what he's got next for us.
