Bad Ass Ninja Assassin Fight Choreography Video

/Film reader Christopher M scored this bad ass fight choreography/stunt training video showing some of the work of 87 Eleven (the stunt team that worked on 300, Watchmen, Matrix and Bourne films) on The Wachowski Brothers-produced, James McTeigue-directed Ninja Assassin. Check it out after the jump.

The film stars stars Korean pop star Rain (Speed Racer) as Raizo, one of the deadliest assassins in the world. Taken from the streets as a child, he was transformed into a trained killer by the Ozunu Clan, a secret society whose very existence is considered a myth. But haunted by the merciless execution of his friend by the Clan, Raizo breaks free from them… and vanishes. Now he waits, preparing to exact his revenge.

In Berlin, Europol agent Mika Coretti (Naomie Harris) has stumbled upon a money trail linking several political murders to an underground network of untraceable assassins from the Far East. Defying the orders of her superior, Ryan Maslow (Ben Miles), Mika digs into top secret agency files to learn the truth behind the murders. Her investigation makes her a target, and the Ozunu Clan sends a team of killers, led by the lethal Takeshi (Rick Yune), to silence her forever. Raizo saves Mika from her attackers, but he knows that the Clan will not rest until they are both eliminated. Now, entangled in a deadly game of cat and mouse through the streets of Europe, Raizo and Mika must trust one another if they hope to survive… and finally bring down the elusive Ozunu Clan.

The film also stars legendary martial arts performer Sho Kosugi (Revenge of the Ninja) as the ruthless leader of the Ozunu Clan. Sounds like it could be a very cool Ninja action film. I was really impressed with McTeigue’s V for Vendetta, but The Invasion was a disaster, although I’m not sure McTeigue can really be blamed for not being able to fix the mess that was handed to him.

The behind-the-scenes creative team includes director of photography Karl Walter Lindenlaub (Independence Day, Prince Caspian), production designer Graham “Grace” Walker (Pitch Black, Gothika), costume designer Carlo Poggioli (Cold Mountain) and editor Giancarlo Ganziano. The Wachowski brothers’ longtime stunt coordinators Chad Stahelski and David Leitch are also on board as second unit co-directors. Joel Silver, Grant Hill, Larry Wachowski and Andy Wachowski are producing, with Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and William Fay serving as executive producers.

The stunts and martial arts are great.I hope they pull this film off well, not too much cheesy dialogue or sucka** music and this will be an entertaining martial arts flick.Keeping my fingers crossed.
  • It could be their return to form.
  • Starbelly
Wow, I'm a sucker for great fight choreography, and this looks incredible!
  • oh my god. that video got me so hot... Rain is finneee.... MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
  • TheMarquis
I do that every night before I go to bed. All of it. True Story.
  • Squiddie
Hey,is that bald stuntman doing the quick get ups the guy who was doing the stunts for Kick-Ass?Looks like him.
  • can't wait till this movie comes out. when is it coming out ?
  • here's hoping this makes up for "speed racer".
  • for a what Speed Racer was a "kids" movie it was excellently made...I never thought they would show guns firing off in a PG movie that wasn't a cartoon...anyways I hope this does live up to expectations because it's been a while since we've had some sort of non-formula action flick
  • Agreed, Speed Racer was a terribly underrated film. Sometimes I wonder if I've been watching the same movie as other people. What I watched had a compelling story, interesting characters, AMAZING visuals and was just overall a ton of fun. I don't understand what everybody was expecting. It was an amazing "kids" movie that can be enjoyed at any age. And damn it looks good on my HDTV. If you want to show friends how good your HDTV looks, show them this movie.

Third'd – it's not like the Speed Racer cartoon was all that sophisticated to begin with, so American audiences either didn't remember how wacky the cartoon was, or were expected something that wasn't true to its Japanese origins.

The visuals were the highlight of course, but the plot around facing corruption in the racing league really wasn't a bad premise at all. Long review short, I watched it on Blu-Ray on a 60" screen and just about jizzed my pants.

The Ninja Assassin choreography looks amazing too. I'll see it whether it sucks or not, just for the title.
  • brian
    holy shit. yes
  • Speed Racer was awesome...except for the ending. This looks like it will be great
  • I haven't seen speed Racer in a while but doesn't it end like it should, Speed wins the race and saves the racing world? Something like that?
  • Mighty183
The ending would have been fine, if that's all that happened. Instead.... gah, it just reminds you of all the bad things about the movie just as you finish.
  • no, I love the "ending" I'm referring to the very last moment of the film.
  • I'm guessing they all jumped high in the air and high fived each other? That's the only thing I can think of. So how did it really end?
  • well, SPOILER!

But Speed is going in to kiss Trixie when his brother and the monkey pop on the screen and say something along the lines of "Warning: there is a kiss coming up" it just pushed the wackiness too far. However it is a fun movie that isn't meant to be taken too seriously.
  • Oh I guess I missed that. Sorry about that but I just really wanted to know what was setting you off about the film. Yeah I'm glad I didn't remember that, it really does push too much. Anyway, thanks again.
  • Yeah, that was silly. I just wonder if kids enjoyed it. Those characters fell flat for me, but I understand that they are geared towards children. So maybe children really enjoyed those parts. If so, then they hit their mark.
  • Looks very promising. I loved V for Vendetta so I can't wait to see McTeigue's take on this.
  • Simply awesome.
  • DRagon
An actual ASIAN Ninja?! And, he's the lead actor?! Partnered up with a haole girl?!!

You shock and surprise me every day, Hollywood!
  • Wow! I know, right! Who'd have thunk it?! [White Goku...you gotta be f#$king kidding me...]
  • HAHAHAHAHA Fuck Yeah!!! Same shit I said...
  • KenLee
Don't forget the last samurai was a white guy. LOL.
  • I have high hopes that this movie will at least entertain and amaze with action. That video was awesome damn those guys work hard.
  • I could totally see the 300 "zoomshots" implemented on some of that choreography.
  • I believe you mean "SHOCK-ZOOMS!"
  • Is that what they're called? Haha, awesome.
  • mrc
Twitch had this years ago, credit them not one of their readers
  • I had absolutely zero interest in this movie prior to this. After seeing that video, I now really want to see it. That choreography looks spectacular and it's amazing that they can really pull off some of the stuff they are doing.
  • 87 Eleven also did the fight choreography for Wolverine along with Scott Adkins (amazing marital artist) playing Weapon 11...
  • very cool. I wish I could do that shit. :P
  • I'm not much for martial arts films, but I do know the choreography at 1:33 is absolutely outstanding!
  • I love Jackie Chan Movies.
  • filmkid
see this video longtime slashfilm step up your game lol
  • Jackie Chan Movies are awesome.
  • what this video (cool to watch BTW) says to me: "Get your lazy ass to the gym."
  • Damn, i hope this movie is awesome. I mean how can it not be? It has ninjas...NINJAS!
  • Agree...NINJAS = WIN
  • Hmm not much of a fan of martial arts films they look so fake these days

yeah this movie is gonna be awesome. Rain seems pretty cool plus Sho Kosugi is in it. the choreography is sick and i dont expect there to be any quick cuts or shakey cam like some people seem to think. the Wachowski bros like you to be able to see the action so im expecting something more akin to the 300. hopefully the movie will be out in a few months because i cant friggin wait.
  • the wachowski brothers are not bad at what they do, just not everyone has the same vision as them. but so far i have liked everything they have done except for matrix reloaded. even the stuff they produced is quite good. mcteigue and wachowski was a good combo last time around, so i have faith. this movie looks to have at least 5 big action set pieces, and some small ones within the big ones. and it also looks like parkour is starting top pop up into every action movie, i'm interested in how it looks in the finished product. hope that doesn't ruin the mood of the film.

regardless shoudl be pretty cool, and just a full on violent ninja film.
  • haole? haven't heard that in a while... are you hawaiian?

ninja's tend to be japanese, i don't think most people will know the difference if rain's korean. ha ha. i love the movies. chinese movies always get japanese people to pass for chinese (hose of flying daggers), brilliant. and in memoirs of a geisha, chinese for japanese. oh the joy... and the scandal
  • YamiK
    This movie looks really good!
Rain is putting alot of effort into it I can't wait to see the result!
  • Shan
There would be a lot more interest in this if they had used a better actor. Rain is ugh! Heard him speak english and it's horrendous; I mean god awful! But I love Naomie Harris!
  • Evenmist
Not being a native English speaker DOES NOT make him a bad actor. I think your choice of words were not appropriate. You should have said an actor who speaks better English. Although I don't agree with that either.
  • Shan
Where did I say specifically say that not being a native english speaker was the equivalent of being a bad actor!? Of course it doesn't make someone a bad actor, but I've seen Rain before and I don't think he's a good actor, just a korean pop idol "trying" to act. I can't imagine trying to watch this movie with his bad english throughout, but I might for Naomie.
