LOL: Terminator Salvation Action Figures

/Film reader Evan K sends over these photos of Playmates line of Terminator Salvation action figures, and boy do they look ugly.

I’ve included more after the jump because they contain potential spoilers. And by saying potential spoilers, I mean that if you weren’t able to put 1 and 1 together when John Connor was yelling at Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington) in the trailer, all isĀ  revealed here. I’ve actually been told that actual footage of this chatacter bruised and battered will be included in the pre-release advertising, so it technically shouldn’t be considered a spoiler at all.

Yes, that’s right, Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington) is a cyborg…

  • I remember back when T2 came out and I had a terminator toy. I'm pretty sure it looked similar to this. It really makes you wonder why toys haven't been effected by technology. I mean T2 came out in the early 90's.
  • schatsi
    worst action figute evarhg
  • I don't undertstand why NECA didn't take/go after this license. They made the endoskeleton recently and it looked amazing. Plus, with McFarlane turning his back on movie fans, it seems that NECA would be perfect for this... Maybe these prototypes are for a cheaper, more mass-produced market (like when there were detailed NECA Jack Sparrows, and then the cheap-o dollar-store-lookin' figures)... In any case, I hope the specialty market does the collectibles justice, even if they keep hiking the price :/
  • MarcoR
In first line, these figures are ACTION FIGURES.... mainly for children to replay the movie when it comes out... they are no collector figures... if you want some of these, then go und buy the busts from the movie.
  • Tomás Roa
At least they got Common right...
  • So they just ran to the "generic male" mold for the humans then?
  • Merchandizing, merchandizing! Where the real money from the movie is made!
  • Sadly true... if that weren't the case, we never would have had to endure Batman and Robin.
  • Is that the rapper Common in the back? :|
  • The terminators in the second photo (in the back) look really friendly.
Just want to hug them and go cootchie coo.
  • Go find a "Tick-me Elmo", rip the soft stuff off of it... you end up with what you saw in the second photo.
  • LMFAO

Which one of those is supposed to be Christian Bale?

I bet McDonald's or Burger King can make better looking toys
    than those.
  • They do look terrible. Maybe these are prototypes in order to get some feedback.
  • holy CRAP.
  • dr.slump
todays figures keep getting cheaper and cheaper the ones from the early ninetys were better...
  • Max
Playmates is a terrible toy company. I honestly don't know how they're still in business.
  • Rob
Marcus being a cyborg isn't much of a spoiler. They allude to Marcus being a machine of some sort in the trailer. It seems that every Terminator movie they like to give away the big twist in the trailer. I thought they blew it for the trailers for T2 way back when by letting on that Arnold was a good Terminator.
  • I can't stop laughing. They even made Bale ugly as hell. How were they able to do that?
  • They give it away when he fly and hits the iron beam. It could also be something totally different since the guy i balding and marcus is not.
  • MovieReviewerGuy
Must...make...Terminator eye's redder....more sinister looking....All evil machines have scary red eyes!
  • Palmer
Well, when was the last time actual fanboys bought toys from an American company that outsources to China? I mean, don't they usually go straight to the Japanese for all their little figure needs?
  • edc
    its all made in china.
  • Palmer
    It's a conspiracy!
  • edc
    [whips off glasses]
    my god! your right!
  • jfive
Why in the third picture the action figure that is supposed to be Marcus is pulling a metal claw out his ass?
  • elgato
Yeah, I don't know how PLAYMATES is still in existence either. I just don't see myself picking up any of these figs. The likenesses are well not likenesses at all. Hell, they're non existent...
  • You've obviously never seen the Super Mario Bros. Movie action figures.
  • ajt
Haha. I might still have my Luigi figure somewhere.
  • How does Christian Bale look like that? I saw the Bale Batman figures around Xmas and was amazed at how detailed some of them look. To go from that to this......
  • It's all about the money but I'm trying to convince myself that someone will actually buy this stuff.
  • SO... the film will be geared towards kids then? I'd rather buy a GI-JOE.
  • edc
yeah, just like neon batman and punch packing joker mean the dark knight was geared to kids.

Todd McFarlane's booger may look more kick ass than this. : /
  • Kris
The terminator in the second photoon the far left has a cock gun and also kinda looks like sloth from the goonies
  • How the holy hell did Playmates land this license? Reminds me of when ToyBiz got the Batman license in 89.
  • MarcoR
Sorry, but this cyborg doesnt even look like Marcus Wright. The face is completely different in comparison with the first photo of him, and he wears completely different things. And look at his hair O.o

I dont believe it is Marcus Wright.

And dont worry about the look of the action figures... They are just prototypes. Remember the first pictures of the Indy4 action figures... They were ugly as hell.
  • I don't recall seeing these Indy 4 prototypes but I am happy that you have reassured me that the products from this film might not be terrible in the end.
  • ajt
I thought the final product of the Indy 4 figures was very poor.
  • What kind of feedback are they expecting with "this"?
  • Damn i don't even want to think about it but ... what if HotToys would have gotten the license?
  • edc
toy licensing is weird.. we might actually see ht make a few.
  • I hope so HotToys is awesome.
  • Dan
    Yes....yes it is.

    *sigh*
  • Moesenjunge
Well, duh. They have yet to figure out a way to download action figures off the internet.
  • jason B
with macfarlayne toys, and all the other companies that do some AMAZING detail on sports/movies/comics/cartoons toys, its almost unexcusable to see a franchise like 'the terminator' be represented by such bland and un-remarkable figures. it's not like this is an 'unknown' story, they should've got the best of the best.

    btw peter
is the spoiler that marcus is a terminator? it's hard for me to make out who's who, thanks for any tips you can give.
  • i dont trust MCG,and now this...
  • hate on McG all you want but I'm 99.9% sure he had no input into what company makes the action figures.
  • Your Gun Shoots Me
The terminator next to "common" has some sort of pulse rifle, I wonder if it's in the 40 watt range? :P These SUCK.
  • If my parents gave me these when I was a kid I would've "accidentally broken' them.
  • krakit
Love to see more coverage of movie toys - the good ones, the bad ones,
and the "What on Earth?" ones. It's nice to see what's coming our way
so decisions can be made early to chase or avoid the toys.

I wish I knew about the Mars Attacks toys before they hit stores.
