Star Trek Will Be Finished Next Week

Star Trek director JJ Abrams has posted a production update on the film’s official Facebook page:

“We’re just making final tweaks to the movie — we should be totally locked next week. Then we’re going to flash-freeze it so it’s totally fresh for you in May. I can’t wait for you to see the movie. The cast is awesome. The action and effects pushed the stunt team and ILM beyond their limits. I’m so grateful to this cast and crew — and to all of you for your interest and patience. We’ll continue to update this page with new info and exclusives, so check back when you think of it. In the meantime, have a happy, healthy, fun holiday! From the last days of the sound mix,  JJ”

It’s kinda crazy that the film will be completely locked next week, considering the film isn’t set to hit theaters for another four and a half months. Most big Summer blockbusters are racing to the finish line as the release date is only days away.

  • Gives them time to screen it a few times, fix what might be wrong and stuff. They can re-shoot 87% of it, right?
  • Gives them time to screen it a few times, get some quality, honest feedback and make changes. Time to fix what might be wrong and stuff. They can re-shoot 87% of it, right?
  • I don't understand why studios like to set a release date when a movie hasn't even been filmed yet. I think it;s stupid
  • That's because the studios aren't in the business of making movies; they're in the business of making money for their investors. Those investors set the timetable based on when they would like their returns to start trickling in.
  • Because, like most things in the professional business world, things are planned out and have a schedule. In order to get money from an investor, you better damn well have a plan and have a timeframe with milestone markers along the way. You can't just say "This is what we're gonna do, it'll be done when it gets done. now give me your money."
  • Delta Assault
So how do you explain Duke Nukem Forever?
  • I'm really excited about this film now.
  • cutter
well, the movie was suppose to come out christmas day 2008. wasn't it?
  • Eric R.
That is true cutter, I was really looking forward to seeing the movie this week as well. Though, with the way the weather has been (reported the two big pictures that came out 'Yes Man' and 'Seven Pounds' were hurt because of the winter weather), I still would say release the film in Jan or Feb with less competition around than the beginning of the Summer Film Season.
