Monsters vs. Aliens Movie Trailer #2

Dreamworks Animation has released the second full movie trailer for their computer animated sci-fi comedy Monsters vs. Aliens. This trailer is a little bit sillier than the last one, focusing more on the wacky monster characters who, turn out to be our only hope against an alien invasion. Leave your comments below.

Plot Synopsis:
“Monsters vs. Aliens,” which is slated for a domestic release date of March 27, 2009, reinvents the classic ’50s monster movie into an irreverent modern day action comedy.

The cast of “Monsters vs. Aliens” includes: OscarĀ® winner Reese Witherspoon (”Walk the Line,” “Rendition”) as Susan Murphy, a.k.a. Ginormica; Golden Globe winner Hugh Laurie (TV’s “House,” “Stuart Little”) as Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D.; Will Arnett (TV’s “Arrested Development,” “Blades of Glory”) as The Missing Link; Seth Rogen (”Knocked Up,” “Superbad”) as B.O.B.; Rainn Wilson (”Juno,” TV’s “The Office”) as Gallaxhar; Emmy winner Stephen Colbert (TV’s “The Colbert Report,” “Bewitched”) as The President of the United States; Golden Globe winner Kiefer Sutherland (TV’s “24,” “Phone Booth”) as General W.R. Monger; and Paul Rudd (”Knocked Up,” “Night at the Museum”) as Susan’s boyfriend, Derek.

“Monsters vs. Aliens” is directed by Rob Letterman (”Shark Tale”) and Conrad Vernon (”Shrek 2″), produced by Lisa Stewart (”I Think I Love My Wife”) and co-produced by Jill Hopper and Latifa Ouaou. The film marks the theatrical debut of DreamWorks Animation’s Ultimate 3-D, the studio’s proprietary production process of authoring its animated films in 3-D from start to finish.

When California girl Susan Murphy is unexpectedly clobbered by a meteor full of outer space gunk, she mysteriously grows to 49-feet-11-inches tall and is instantly labeled a “monster” named Ginormica. The military jumps into action, and she is captured and held in a secret government compound. The world learns that the military has been quietly rounding up other monsters over the years. This ragtag group consists of the brilliant but insect-headed Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D.; the macho half-ape, half-fish The Missing Link; the gelatinous and indestructible B.O.B.; and the 350-foot grub called Insectosaurus. Their confinement time is cut short however, when a mysterious alien robot lands on Earth and begins storming the country.

As a last resort, under the guidance of General W.R. Monger (on a desperate order from The President), the motley crew of Monsters is called into action to combat the aliens and save the world from imminent destruction.

    Looks good :)

Weird..I can see Seth Rogen in that blob..
  • looks wonderful, but the title is misleading. I actually thought this was a sequel to "MONSTER, INC," and i was surprised to see that it's a whole new different story with new characters.

    Yeah I'm dumb.
  • I like the idea that we need the monsters help against the aliens.
  • Seems like it'll be fun. Count me in! Dreamworks is getting better slowly.

This looks much better than shark tale was but I swear the invading alien looks like President Elect Obama.
  • Really? Even with the different type-face and campy title? I guess I can see how you interpreted that way. Still, kind of out there.
  • I cannot wait for the film. When the kid and I saw the trailer in front of Bolt we cracked up. My only fear is all the funny parts are in the trailer....
  • That's one thing that Dreamworks lacks on, funny. So the put them all in the trailer. Over The Hedge was practically the only movie I watched of theirs where most of the funny parts were left out of the trailer.
  • "What the flacknod!" just became me phrase of 2009!
  • By the title it looks awful
by the two trailers it looks like a great comedy!
  • Mwah...who needs Dreamworks if there's Pixar?
  • I wonder who's job it was to get her out of that wedding dress and into the jumpsuit....
  • That was one elastic wedding dress.
  • Lame!
This movie looks as bad as all of the other crappy Dreamworks Animation films... Seriously, Dreamworks animated movies are...
    1. Not funny at all because all of their humor relies on pop culture references... just look at their cast: Hugh Laurie as Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D., Seth Rogen as B.O.B., Stephen Colbert as The President and Kiefer Sutherland as General W.R. Monger... gimme a break! It's like they said lets take the the actors who play these types of stereotypical roles and cast them for the part. Insectasaur = Godzilla.
    2. Dreamworks Animation will never ever be as good in terms of story, animation, and overall quality when compared to Pixar films.
    3. WTF is up with 3D films? It really is not a big deal and the industry should really stop trying to push it like it's the next big revolution in filmmaking.

Take one part Hellboy misfit team + Mike form Monsters, Inc x Men in Black Plot + Reese Witherspoon = this trainwreck.

Dreamworks just does not get it. All their movies feel like they are put together via focus group while Pixar movies have an truly organic feel.

I will wait until this is on free tv in 2011

I thought that Kung Fu Panda was a winner from tip to tail, but other than that one film I have disliked every Dreamworks project and have even hated some. I hate the celebrity voice casting, the clumsy Frankenstein construction of the stories and concepts, which seem to have been cobbled together with Jeffrey "Hunchback of Notre Dame" Katzenburg heading a committee meeting over sushi and sake, and I hate the marketing of the movies that centers around burps, farts and one-liners that age like fresh cream.

I will always love Pixar films because none of the things above apply to Pixar. Their stories are original and organic, tasteful and magical. The fact that Mr. Incredible was voiced by Craig T. Nelson when Disney pushed for George Clooney speaks volumes for Pixar. If that had come together under Dreamworks' banner the lead would have been Brad Pitt or something. I'll probably give this a "no".

Looks OK. I saw a bit of what I HOPE will be a Cloverfield spoof. While I loved it, it deserves a kick in the pants.
  • The other trailer was WAY better.

i laughed at some of the things in the first one and thought it was very good. i agree with others who say it would be awesome for kids. this one was the most hilarious. It has great humor and though i am a teenager at 15 i think it would be funny.
  • For a dreamworks movie, this just looks not up to par
